Theorycrafting Twilight as the villain in G5?

What if Twilight Sparkle had a falling out with Celestia and Luna a very long time after her reign and eventually ended up becoming the dictator of Equestria, being the one to divide the land into different races like G5 suggested? She could have snapped due to the years of ruling taking a toll on her mind and her friends dying, but she still being alive. Is this possible?

Though that would make for an interesting twist if it was done right, I don't see it actually happening. After all, fans flipped when they saw Twilight's behavior in A Trivial Pursuit. You definitely don't want to do a plot like that wrong in a feature-length film.

That could not possibly happen. That will then mean that everything that ever happened in FiM was for nothing.

Considering Twilight's curiosity with magic it is pretty logical in my opinion.

I don't think this would be likely. As far as I see, it looks as if the characters hailed Twilight Sparkle as a role model.

I am beginning to plan my G5 headcannon so to speak.

Spike would have eventually evolved into a large dragon of sorts. His power would increase beyond measure, at the passing of his dear friend Rarity he would have become bitter and lonely. While others would try to help him, he resorted to his greed as a way to cope. All of his friends, the mane 5 would eventually pass on. Twilight was his only friend. But she too was broken by the pain. Her curiosity with magic became a way to cope. Twilight began to dabble in magics she had no place in. The 2 sisters would plead to Twilight to not go down this path, but because of Twilight's loss, and Spike's loss, the 2 would transform and be corrupted by a similar manner as Nightmare Moon. Spike would have transformed into a large dragon full of greed and hate, transforming into a dragon of extreme malice and hate. His name would turn from Spike, to Posentet. Extreme power and resilience.

 

Twilight would transform into a more powerful version of herself, like Nightmare Moon. She'd take the name Equilibrium, as Twilight was Equilibrium between the sun and moon. And she would rule forever, and have the sky in an eternal Twilight. Posentet and Equilibrium would lay waste to Canterlot in a massive grand battle between the 2 sisters and them. Unluckily for the 2 sisters, the evil duo had supporters who battled in an all out Equestrian war. Friendship had failed, and Celestia and Luna would use the elements of harmony to banish Posentet into a dark cave, while Equilibrium would be banished to the stars as a constellation only visible during the Twilight hours after Sunset and Sunrise.

Or...

Twilight gets tired of ruling and resigns, and puts up a democracy in place of a monarchy and goes back to reading and studying like she always did. Then 4 political parties form. 3 for each pony race, one neutral party. These 4 parties end up bickering and dividing Equestria, leading us to where we start in G5 where its all divided.

There is only one thing for Twilight, and it is to become magic itself. Though, I like to think that such ascended Twilight would be rather indifferent to the troubles of ponies.

Highly unlikely. Twilight took over and is now the ruler and it showed a considerable time skip of at LEAST 20 years after the show ended and she was very obviously more perfect then ever. Twilight as a villain would not make any sense at all since she is the literal god of friendship.

Unlikely. Companies like Hasbro as very protective of the image of their really important characters. Like Disney with Mickey, Mattel with Barbie, etc. They wouldn’t dare let the character they’ve spent years building up as an admirable icon for little girls suddenly fall to the dark side.

A side character possibly, but most definitely not practically-the-mascot Twilight.
