How much longer should FiM go before MLP transitions into G5?

While I believe that FiM still has a long way to go before Hasbro brings in G5, we all need to realize that G4 will eventually come to an end, and that we will all one day bid farewell to Twilight Sparkle and Co. Personally, I want to see at least two more seasons and a movie. Then, my appetite for FiM will be satiated, and I will look forward to seeing G5, preferably with new characters and in a completely new style.

Hasbro said that FiM will go on for at least another 5 years or possibly longer. I don't really know exactly when the show is gonna end, but I hope it ends like this: All six of the ponies, and half of the background ponies in the show, perform the song "I'm a Believer" by Smash Mouth (Smash Mouth are a rock band, if you didn't know), and then it ends with a storybook closing over it. Then the show would go out with a big laugh.

I think it need not ever end. xD  Hasbro could usher in Gen 5 of MLP and still keep FIM going lol; it has essentially transcended the My Little Pony brand and been successful / affected pop culture to an extent that Hasbro could not have anticipated.  Even when if Gen 4 ends, that'll still be my go-to Gen.  I imagine myself going, "What?  Really?!?" when G5 is revealed.  Or just turning my snoot up and watching G4 Dashie do something adorable.  It won't matter how they handle G5 / what they do with it, because it won't be G4.  It would be nigh impossible to duplicate the success of G4, and I can't so much as imagine a future gen surpassing it.  This is all assuming, of course, that G5 would be a significant departure from G4.  Rather than a next gen, can I just have a Rainbow Dash spin-off?  Please???

At least 10 seasons, I would be very disappointed otherwise.

They said there will be 5 more years of MLP so I have high hopes.

G4 will go on for another 25 years and the characters will cease to age after season 9 and Discord will get his own spinoff series.

I guess G5 will come around whenever Hasbro wants to start a completely new toy-line. But....as long as the new toy line doesn't look too drastically different to G4 and the characters remain the same, FiM could theoretically continue the same way.

Even now, the toys themselves don't look exactly look their cartoon counterparts. The toy's are a little stouter, more chubby around the muzzle and just well....more chibi? But the essential look and character is still intact in the show, so even if a new style of toy line is released, as long as the characters are the same and keep the same colours  and don't look too un-recognisably different to the cartoon, then the show could still carry over more or less the same into G5. Hasbro is aware of how popular the show is, so they may consider letting the show go on even if the toyline evolves somewhat.

It's only a theory, and only a possibility, but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Make FiM last as long as they have ideas

2 movies

And if they do another generation,

-same or similar art style

-Same universe

-Possibly background ponies or grown CMC (w/cutie marks) and friends as mane characters

-If not, then new ponies

-less morals, more adventures

-more epic villians and epic battles

-Good quality

-good voice actors and crew

-make it exciting

I don't see any reason why they need to bother with a Gen 5. Gens 1-3 needed to happen, as did 4, because the franchise was more or less meant only for its target audience, and though it must have had some kind of foothold in the market before FiM, to my understanding, it had to be re-imagined periodically to stay fresh, and appeal to a new generation. FiM skyrocketed in popularity, and has taken the Internet by storm. Between the show and the comics, the pony toys themselves probably aren't the franchise's biggest money maker anymore. I'm sure the idea behind FiM was to sell more pony toys, and I'm sure it accomplished just that, but it has also sold itself.

Aren't gens based in the toys though? Based on my research, there were tv shows, and movies, and whatnot, but I figured they were more meant to promote the brand than define it. From what little I know, FiM's redesign is by far the most significant. Maybe, if a Gen 5 happens, the next redesign would be a much smaller departure. Heck, just because a new gen of toys happens, doesn't mean the show has to be affected. Maybe the Mane Six, Spike, Celestia, and others, will simply be updated for the next gen.

If I had to suggest a good time frame, I'd say Hasbro should wait till at least 2020. History also suggests there was a period where not a lot happened, after each show fizzled out. Maybe they should wait till a little while after FiM ends. Then again, FiM is an anomaly, that's gained amazing popularity. I doubt the show will just run its course. Hasbro would be foolish to pull the plug on it anytime soon.

2014 has been a pretty kick-ass year for MLP:FiM. Maybe they could just bring in G5 but still keep FiM going, if that's a good idea. And G5 and G4 could have the exact same number of, if not more, fans.

It is huge difference between creating a new generation of MLP and making a new season. In fact, FiM is creation of Lauren Faust, and since she left I highly doubt someone can invent anything better and more successful. So I think instead of creating new generation, they’d better to make more seasons of FiM, and it would be right decision for both they and us.

While I to two more seasons and a film, I highly doubt G5 will be as good as G4 simply because of the standard this generation set... Now the only way G5 can be better is if it combines the adventurous fantasy and world building of G1 with the character building and driven plots of G4. But that won't happen...

I think it should probably go about another season or two, maybe a movie, then stop. If shows go on for too long, they usually grow stale trying to find new ideas for episodes and eventually, it dies. That's why I believe that Season 6 should be the cutoff point to at least give FiM some dignity before it goes. Not saying the show's crap or anything.

The shows before G4 didn't last nearly as long as G4 and the rule of "65 episodes". So as long as we keep cheering on for more seasons I don't think Hasbro would have a reason to get bored. I mean, G1 only carried on for 2 seasons and god knows how long G3 went on for. I would be perfectly happy if G4 was the final Generation for MLP and that they keep continuing the show (Of course, maybe in the future new Voice actors are needed even though no one wants that). I wouldn't wanna say bye to all the Ponies and didn't get bored of them one bit. I refuse to even think about a G5 at all. I think they should just give it a whole break for like a year or two to get some ideas and prevent G4 from getting stale and come back with a new story and plot, but with the same characters and ideas.. I hope.

G4? Ending?

I hope the most that Hasbro will do is put G4 on a 1 year break and basically brainstorm a new plot, and setting at max. I hope they keep the characters and the designs too! Let's just hope Hasbro knows what they are doing.
