What were your first reactions?

Hi everypony, recently watching the first episode of MLP, I reflected on how I laughed at certain parts, or felt some other parts were just plain akward. I want to know what were your personal reactions to the first episodes you have watched. What was good and bad about it, and what stood out to you! Be honest please :)

I watched my first episode under the pressure that everyone will instantly hooked after a couple of it. But at the end of the 2nd, I was all like

Well the first time I watched the show, I thought it was...alright, wasn't my thing.

A year later passed and well my family has been going through hard times, divorce and all of that so I've been depressed. My ways of dealing with depression and stress mainly are talking with my friends and video games. I've been a gamer all my life but it wasn't enough so I mainly was on youtube, looking for good shows since there's nothing on TV...seriously, all of that reality TV crap is garbage

So I watched MLP again, continuing where I was just for the heck of it and I started to appreciate it a lot more, enjoying for what it was and eventually, becoming a brony

My first reaction, eh? Well it was mostly of surprise. I mean c'mon who would of honestly thought a show geared for promoting a child's toy line would actually be so good.

When I watched the first episodes I must admit I was skeptical. At this time I had understood that it must have been a meme or something. The first MLP video I watched was a Skyrim parody. I thought for sure there was something behind all this. I began seeing it everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I took it as a sign, because I was looking for something at that moment. So I decided to watch the first episode. To be honest the theme song almost made me turn it off right there. Though I persevered, and after the first episode. I was just curious what was going to happen. So I stuck around for the second episode. I remember thinking to myself that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I would never admit to actually having watched it. Though after a few more episodes I began to realize that it made me a lot better about things, and I just continued watching it. Until I had watched all the Season 1 Episodes. It was around this time I wanted to find more stuff, so yeah it was...a serendipitous moment. Especially for me.

I was lucky enough to see "Lesson Zero" as my first episode. If I hadn't I wouldn't be here with you guys right now.

Season one is only just tolerable to me, "Over a Barrel" and "Party of One" just saving it from my despise.

It is of my opinion that season two is AMAZING. The season pilot was much better, the finale was awesome, and the episodes in between are just generally entertaining and worthy watching.

When I first watched it I was like, yeah yeah yeah, hurry up to finish it since I knew they were gonna save the day and all (since it's so obvious), then after that though, I felt like the first 2 episodes didn't show what the rest of the show is actually like since I found them kinda meh. So I started watching the rest of the episodes so I could actually find out how the show really is. Best Decision I have ever made. :D

Prior to watching the series I neither hated nor liked the idea of the show, My opinion on it was "meh" at best. I started watching because one of my friends praised it to high heaven.

Sooo... I watched the first episode, and it had entertaining characters, an easy on the eyes art style, foreboding lore, a decent setup for a villain, and an overarching story line that spans across episodes. It basically had the stuff that I like to see in my series... Then I watched episodes two to six and I was really disappointed to see that the overarching story, the villain and the lore were rarely ever (or never) brought into play.

Only when my friend told me about the Discord episodes did I watch the rest of the series, hoping it would have the same level of brilliance as the first two episodes, but I found them... lacking. Maybe it's just me though but Discord never really seemed to pose the same threat as Nightmare Moon, and I get that they were going for a "chaos is not evil" style of things, but it should still feel dangerous, even if just for the sake of narrative.

Anywho, I could ramble on and on about my views on that episode but nobody would want to read that anyway. Long story short(er)! I found that the fan community makes up for a lot of the show's shortcomings and I guess that's why I'm here, to have fun and to learn interesting stuff about the episodes I really didn't pay much attention to myself.

I was initially told about MLP over a year ago, so it has taken awhile for me to even start watching the show. When I started watching the first episode I was tentative, it seemed slow and pretty ordinary. But as I continued to watch the episode I started to get drawn into the story line and characters. Before I knew it I was watching the season finale (all in one sitting), completely addicted and ready for the next season. I'm just blown away at the depth and complexity of the show, how well the creators captured various emotional states and actions that I seen in people around me. All I know is that, I have 5 episodes to go in season 2 and I'm ready to start re-watching season 1. A week ago I wouldn't have believed that I would be so taken by MLP .

My first exposure was a pic of Twilight with Spike, so I expected her to be the villain (colour scheme plus little henchdragon) with plans along the line of "ruin the other girls tea party". Then I watched some RD clips on youtube and started watching the series. Second episode got me hooked.

That didn't stop me from watching until the end though, and when I had watched the pilot I was suddenly craving for more. I ended up staying up 'till 03:00 am watching ponies.

When I was watching my first full episode, Party of One, I can't exactly remember how my reaction went for the entire episode, I remember being neutral towards it at first (I was neutral towards the show and bronies, I used to think they were wierdos but then I learned better, still was never interested in the show though till listening to a reading of cupcakes on youtube, and only watched an episode because the fanfic was so disturbing I thought only an episode of this happy happy girly show would make me feel better), but I slowly began to enjoy it, and couldn't stop watching. All thoughts of "this is a dumb girly show" quickly evaporated as I got completed sucked into the episode, and at the end I realized "wow this actually a good show......oh god, I'M A BRONY!!!!"

I was skeptical at first when I first saw the MLP reaction faces, which was my first exposure to the show. "So it's from a little girls show?" I thought when I did a bit more research as to why so many were popping up, "Either it's surprisingly good or it's used because there are a lot of expressions from the show that are perfect to use as reaction faces" (and I was amazed to find that both were true when I came across a discussion about it)

I neither hated the idea that the show was appreciated by an older fanbase, or did I welcome it. But I did find it very interesting. I went and eventually swallowed my pride and watched the pilot episode. (You cannot believe the embarrassment I felt when my parents and brothers heard the MLP theme playing from my room, having me explain what I'm doing. I told them it was for "purely educational" purposes.)

When I was watching it, I payed close attention to what bronies had been saying about the show, being that the characters had depth and relatability. I could see it, somewhat, but not to the extent that I expected. However, I did enjoy the humor and I wasn't outright turned down by the show. One of my little brothers came in when I was watching and saw the rest of the 2nd episode. He loved it. (though now that I'm obsessed, he denies that he ever said that. . . He'll still watch the show when it's on though) After I was finished, my reaction was like:

I posted a detailed review to my friends, showing my opinions on the aspects of the show, who laughed at the idea but of course, understood my reasons for trying it out and why I thought it would be a good children's show. (compared to the garbage they show on Cartoon Network that I'd rather not have my brothers following) However, the show left me with a sense of incompletion, and I had a secret desire to continue on. My pathetic attempt to hold off the pony lasted under a month before a day home alone allowed me to watch a couple episodes. I liked it even more and could understand much more clearly why bronies love the show. And every time I was home alone or thought I could get away with it, I'd watch more, and my love for the show kindled. By the time I was finished with S1, I openly admitted that I was a brony, and the rest is history.

Back in the summer of 2011 I heard of MLP:FiM's fanbase. I just kind of ignored it and thought of it as nothing.

Oh was I wrong.

Back sometime in April of this year my curiosity grew for the series, and I decided to watch the first episode.

Then after a while...I found myself on episode 6.

CRUSH. KILL. DESTROY. SWAG.

I had begun hearing about ponies on /b/, and at first thought nothing of it. Eventually as the brony fandom spread and I heard of more and more people talking about the show and praising it, I decided I would give it a try. My thoughts going into the first episode were "this is going to be so stupid I'm going to hate this like I hate every little-kids show they throw onto television these days..."

But, I give everything a fair chance before judging it completely. And so I watched the first episode, which did great in setting up the antagonist. Surprisingly interested in what happened next, I moved onwards to episode two. I was a tad disappointed that the whole ordeal with Nightmare Moon ended so soon, but then again it wasn't intended to be anything more than a children's show, and so I should have foreseen the unlikeliness of a large storyline arc. All in all, the disappointment at the end was diminished as the show managed to pique my interest, stir my emotions a little, the animation was done better than anything I have been seeing on the air lately, and the friendliness of the fandom also played a large part in my easing into the idea of watching a little girl's show. Continuing in the series, the show very rarely would disappoint.

*turns channel to MLP for the first time(episode was Suited for Success)* hm, who is this white unicorn with glasses and why is she singing about making dresses? Strange... No one told me this was a musical, I don't like musicals! But then again, that song wasn't half bad... Oh, this where that Rainbow Dash character comes from... 20% cooler? That's funny! Wouldn't doubt if that was a thing with those bronies I heard about... I should turn the channel, but this is so fresh and different in a good way... think I liked it, should I like this though? Screw it, I do! I will join the bronies! :D :D :D ... and that's how Equestria was made! :)

The first time I watched a chunk of the first episode because I was like "Why is everyone so obsessed with this dumb show?"

I watched it on really low sound cause I was pretty embarassed lol. I didnt like it. I thought it was dumb.

Then I watched the episode like months later one night on my moms iphone and I thought it was funny. I watched the first 4 episodes that night and loved it!

At the start of the first episode, I liked the animations, and I thought the voice acting was downright amazing. Though after the first two episodes, I wasn't really hooked. I was only hooked after I got to episode 5.

I must admit, the first two episodes of MLP: FiM don't do the later stages of the show, and the entire second season, justice. They, frankly, are the most 'girly' ones, and don't appeal to me too much.

When I first decided to watch MLP, I'm lucky I downloaded the entire first season, else I would have left it after just watching the premiere. Kept watching and watching and watching, and then I fell in love with the show.

My main reaction with the first episodes was "Meh, seems good, but don't see why it's got such a big fanbase."

Of course by the time I got around a third the way through the first season I was pretty much hooked.

I was impressed by the artwork and animation quality as well as the voice acting but I was still questioning why I was watching a show geared toward seven year old girls. I was starting to figure that maybe mlp wasn't my thing but at the same time I just wanted to see more. After the fourth episode I was hooked ^-^

Well I first heard about it in about august 2011, but I thought that it was just some meme that would burn out in a month or two. I also had no idea that the fandom was this big or this good.

Then a friend told me about it and showed me a parody and I was like "Why would someone take the time to parody a girl’s show?" He replied "because it's a better show than most of the crap on TV these days."

I watched it two days later and saw five episodes in one night. The next day I watched six or seven more. I had no idea how good the

community was until I started talking about it online on sites like this.

Basically my reaction was one of pleasant surprise at the good animation, voice acting, plot line, and community.

The first two episodes had quite a bit of cheesiness to them, and being the first two I watched, I was half-laughing at myself for watching them, also feeling awkward for doing it, but also strangely finding it interesting. From then on when anything awkward popped up I didn't really notice, or didn't care enough to think much of it.
