That's true.

And beside several of the songs in Generation 4 sounded like pop songs anyway when you consider the definition of pop music that everyone seems to forget:

type of music, usually played on electronic instruments, that is popular with many people because it consists of short songs with a strong beat and simple tunes that are easy to remember.

(Macmillan Dictionary)

Pop has a very broad definition. In fact pretty much everything being made now that makes it to mainstream radio is pop music, the big exceptions to that being hip hop and country. And yeah, a lot of MLP was pop music, but I think what separated FiM music though is that it was more like pop as filtered through a Broadway jukebox musical. It wasn't over-processed and auto-tuned and it was at least somewhat believable that the characters could be singing the song right there in the moment.

I couldn't get into it. It was just TOO artificial and I can only go so far with that before it turns me off. But since folks are bringing up "Rainbow," I might as well add that while I'm not a big fan of some mainstream pop music, Sia's song in FiM can still make me emotional if I let it, and whenever it comes up at a con, I'm there with a lighter, trying to keep from crying. Also as a side-note: Ponies and this fandom got me into EDM and turned me into a raver, which was something I had never even given a chance before.

This song though... just isn't doing anything for me.

It is not FIM. It has more of a social network kinda "top 10" feel to it.

That could work to the show's disadvantage, if this is what the whole thing is going to be like. There's already enough fashion toy lines with cartoon support that are doing this very thing. Making MLP feel like a "runway" show will reduce it to whitenoise in an over-saturated genre of doll-making.

This song could really have a good impact on us fans if it is animated well. The voice of Pipp is very dynamic, and if that is not expressed in a good way during the animation, that it could end up looking confusing. The song by itself is not a problem I think. It is the fact that a cute pony will sing this.

It may be better on-screen if this is just the radio version. It's entirely possible there will be a different version of this song performed during the actual film will feel a bit more like G4.

It's kind of growing on me, especially with the new clips we haven't seen before. I don't get all the complaints, though - this is the song played at the very end of the movie and likely over a good part of the end credits.

Could be that. Could also be a "montage" song for them to do stuff that might be progressing the story by days or weeks in a matter of minutes.

Well... :yeahno:

When I first listened to it I found it catchy, even though the chorus sounded a bit weird and I couldn't understand a word of what the singer was saying.

After a couple of listens I can tell that it is OK for what it is; this is the direction that MLP is taking and the character singing is a pop star. These factors justify its sound. The song automatically gives you the feel of the typical top hit, and that's fine. It was totally expected, given how the modern technology, the internet, social networks and such are now a thing in the My Little Pony universe.

The lyrics are the worst part for me personally, a bit too vague and generic for my taste. There's nothing in them than can properly identify them as something from the movie, let alone the franchise. :okiedokieloki:

Still, I'm excited to listen to the rest of the songs. :)

Also, has anyone noticed that it is a different version from the one that's in the Pipp toy?

I mean, it's not super unique, but then again, neither were any of the songs in the G4 movie, which were all pretty standard pop trakcs, too. Songs like this are used in kids movies because an important pop number, which is presumably what this will be in the movie, is easy to make be catchy and sticks in people's minds.  It makes a lot of sense that the introduction to a new generation of MLP, that wants to capture a broader audience, is going to follow a trend like that. But that doesn't mean that the show's songs will be in the same style (though they might be) and to be frank, this song was fine anyways. Plus, lets be honest here, FiM's songs varied wildly in how good they were; some were good, a few were great, but just about as many were generic and forgettable.

Not a fan of this song. Plus the words are confusing and at times it’s hard to hear her sing the lyrics.

The more tid bits they show, the more I get the feeling it’s a one time watch. Series? I’m not sure, shrugs maybe.

I’ll at least give it a chance.

It seems that some people don’t like this song simply because it is of the pop genre. That, in my opinion, is not necessarily a valid reason to dislike or immediately dismiss it. G5 is set in a much more modern world so to hear songs like this makes sense. I know a lot of fans want the music to stay the same as it was in G4 but we need to get out of that mindset or everything in G5 is just going to end up disappointing you.

This whole thing screams: "I don't like it because it's different". We aren't in G4 anymore, so stop expecting G4.

Not sure how you came up with that conclusion, and sadly you learned nothing from the friendship is magic series, the giveaway is you lashing out in the way you did to the people who still adore G4 series. I seen all the series of MLP from G1 and to now, and yes G4 has something very unique a variety of characters with creative personalities their stores even their strong bonds to their family and friends is what kept many hooked on the series. The music at least was easy to understand and had meaning that was n sync with the series as well a beautiful combination. Vibrant fun and full of life.

I like a wide variety of music including pop.  Trolls And Trolls world Tour awesome and the flow of music vibes totally fit naturally to the theme. to me this song  I can hardly hear the words at times and when the words are clear they are confusing as hell example.

Glowin’ up kind of love
Dip and slide through the cut
Glowin’ up kind of love
We say “Hi”, you say “What?”
Glowin’ up kind of love
Dip and slide through the cut
Glowin’ up kind of love
We say “Hi”, you say “What?”

Its sadly a shameful lazy way to write a song. It’s like the key focus was to make sure the words rhyme and crap the making sense part of it. I’m still scratching my head to find meaning in this song. Like many said here the song feels generic and lacks any true emotions.

You can have best visuals, perfect flowing characters, great storyline, but if your music stinks it can ruin the whole experience. I read the book already and is disappointed in the way the story was going,

im probably the the one who feels that Izzy horn looks like a party hat and not a real horn. When I herd about the magic lost well maybe that’s why the horn lost its color. Nope, they are suppose to look bland and swirly.

everyone has a right to their opinion. And not everyone is going to feel the same vibe. if you like the song well then good for you. But stop hating on people who do not and stumping down on the people who hold G4 to their hearts.

I really want to like this movie and give G5 a fair chance but this song sounds a little too generic for me. On its own it's not terrible, but the only problem is that compared to the fairly high standard set by the classy Daniel Ingram soundtrack and 'Rainbow' from the 2017 MLP movie, it feels like a bit of a downgrade.

Turned out that song was just the end credits song that had no relation to the movie itself. Whether that makes it better or worse that's up to the individual to decide.

I can't help but wonder if this was a change due to a test reaction. Maybe the song wasn't as well-received as hoped?

When we got to the makeover scene, I thought for sure that song was going to kick in, and then surprisingly we got something completely different.

You can have best visuals, perfect flowing characters, great storyline, but if your music stinks it can ruin the whole experience. I read the book already and is disappointed in the way the story was going,

My preference for 'musicals' is that the big numbers help drive the story. Some musicals, especially the older ones seemed to have a, "Alright, this part needs a song, where can we put one in?" The music isn't written as part of the plot, it's just there to stretch the runtime. The story stops, waits for a song to finish, and then continues.  More recently, songs have become more integral to the story. Sometimes they help to explain the setting, or actively help to advance the plot forward. Often they provide deeper insight into characters when they're having an important moment; it's a great way to have an inner monologue without it seeming campy. G4 had a lot of good songs like this, and a some of them were very emotionally powerful.

While it wasn't a deal-breaker for me, I was a bit disappointed with the music. Not because the songs were 'bad,' but there wasn't anything that really spoke to me that I would remember in the long-run. Perhaps the most memorable overall is "Danger Danger," which is pretty much the Lion King's, "Be Prepared," but with Ponies, only sticks out because it's fun for similar reasons. It's pretty clear that there was limited communication between the song writers and the screen writers. In some cases they might just have been given a theme to work with, without really knowing anything about the characters or what was going on in a particular scene.

Song's honestly grown on me a lot since the movie's release.

Hell, I even added it to my Spotify playlist. :p

I'm just drawn to pop music I guess.

I dunno. I’m not a fan of pop music, but I’d rather like it. One of my favorite songs. Kinda foreshadows the end of the movie :mlp_icwudt:. Still, like it partly because it was a nice BG music to one of my favorite scenes of the movie :fluttershy:
