Season 4 is the most irrelevant season?

Wasn't the show scheduled for a set number of episodes? If it was supposed to end with S3. Then S4 would be such transitional period.
Also, the original seasons have stuck with me over the later ones. Though, that is not to say there aren't exceptional episodes here and there in the more recent ones. I should have to rewatch it, but I do not have the time now.

How is the season that introduced Tirek, the Castle of Friendship, Coco Pommel, Cheese Sandwich, and Maud Pie in addition to providing a vital character development plot line for Twilight Sparkle's role as a princess the most irrelevant season in any way? :maud:

They are good in the future but not that special in the context of season 4

This might be an unpopular take here, but Season 4 was a very middling season overall. It rides back off of a very mediocre third season, and the writers are trying to figure out what to do with Twilight after she became a princess. Most of the time, it doesn't work because she didn't get to do much of anything. She just there. Twilight in S4 was the same character from the previous seasons, excepts wings and less snarky. The only time that she actually get to do something was the S4 finale (and to some extent Three's A Crowd), but that's about it.

Another thing about Season 4 is that it has a lot of questionable writing choices that left me scratch my head. Why is Applejack being so overprotective to Apple Bloom, despite being old enough to to take care of herself? Why is Pinkie Pie saying a whole bunch of nonsense to Fluttershy for no reason(granted, does it excuse people going after Amy Keating Rodgers for that? No! But still, I just find it weird.)? Why is there a interdimensional comic book in Equestria? You know what I mean. I get that they are overexaggerated just for jokes, but I don't know, I don't find it all that funny.

The Rainbow Power did had a lot of potential and it had a decent concept, but the execution was hit and miss. We have great episodes like the Cheese Sandwich episode, Rarity in Manehatten episode, and Twilight's Kingdom. But we also go bad ones like Rainbow Falls episode, a boring Applejack episode, and that forgettable Fluttershy corporate-shilling episode featuring the Breezies. While the overall story was fine. but I wish the bad episodes were written better, but that's just me.

With me, I'll take Season 4 over ANYTHING that happened in S6-9, but I find it very forgettable compared to first two seasons. There are some things in Season 4 that I will give credit to. I love Coco Pommel. She's adorable. The Cheese episode was fun. Twilight's Kingdom was God tier. While I'm not a big fan of Maud Pie, her introduction episode was very solid.

Even though Season 4 was so much better than Season 3, but Season 5 holds up much better, to some extent.

So...yeah. Season 4. Definitely a weird season.

Are you mad? Season Four is incredibly relevant. The Rainbow Realizations, seeing Maud, seeing Coco, the final battle with Tirek, the Mane Six all getting incredible moments to shine. There are so many incredible things about it. Dare I say, I think it's my favourite Season along with Five. :kindness:

Too sad that the Golden Oak Library was destroyed by Tirek. :(

I'll disagree with that. Season 4 is my favourite of the newer seasons in the show and yes, it is the transitional season, but it's a damn good transition IMO and has a ton of memorable episodes. If you don't like it, that's fine, but I feel irrelevant is the wrong word.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

IMO, that title really belongs to season 5 or 6, but that's just a personal viewpoint. While I can't remember every episode from season 4, I can say with some confidence that the season as a whole was fairly instrumental for the series as a whole.

I always have to look up which episodes are in season 6, TBH.

I feel like season four wasn't irrelevant because Season 4 was where Twilight Sparkle earned her royal title and that the seasons following five

were the ones that lacked real significance and progression for Twilight's story/journey.

I completely agree with your criticism of Twilight's character when applied to post Season 4, in which her character arc and journey was complete and she was mostly just there most of the time. As for Season 4, I think the premiere and finale handle her extremely well in showing her developing in fitting into her role as a princess. I will concede that she could have been given more to do in the rest of the Season and that her character was still better when she was a student in Seasons 1-3. A couple or so more episodes addressing her princess-hood and giving it more development would have been nice. However, I don't find it to be a major issue since Twilight's Kingdom showed how she was aware that her new role did not amount to much and was largely ceremonial. I think that rest of the season easily makes up for Twilight not being as strong as in the previous seasons, because I think the other characters are developed very well in the season, and the episode quality was really consistent with a large amount of creative ideas. Frankly, I find Season 4 to be the most creative and memorable season of the whole show, with really only 2 and 3 rivaling it for me.

Yeah, Season 4 had flaws and questionable writing decisions, but so did Season 1-3 in my view. (Boast Busters, Owl's Well, Feeling Pinkie Keen, Mare Do Well, Dragon Quest, One Bad Apple, Spike at Your Service all had awful writing). Honestly, I think Season 4 was the more consistent and had overall better writing than those seasons, as it only had 2 episodes I disliked and only like 4 others I found meh. ANd it actually had a good season long arc with the arcs with a premiere and finale that are connected without being rushed. I agree with your dislike for Somepony to Watch Over Me and Rainbow Falls (the only 2 S4 episodes I consider outright bad). I agree that Pinkie was terrible in Filli Vanili (although its only a bad 2 minutes or so of an otherwise good episode). I honestly really liked the Breezies episode, for its high stakes and for having a really good moral that showed Fluttershy being properly assertive. I really loved when the episodes had really out there concepts like Bats or Daring Don't, which I thought made for really fun episodes. I agree with you about Power Ponies (I love the concept of it, but the episode failed to be creative with it at all) and Leap of Faith tho.  I find Season 4 to be much better than 5 since 5 did not develop the characters as much and had a lot more middling episodes, including a very flawed finale which the show never recovered from.

Out of curiousity, why do you find Season 3 to be mediocre? I find it to have really memorable and fun episodes with the same charm as in Season 2. (Crystal Empire, Too Many Pinkie Pies, Magic Duel, Sleepless in Ponyville, Wonderbolts Academy are among my favorites). I love Keep Calm and Flutter On and Magical Mystery Cure as well, although I see how those episodes are rushed and understand why people dislike them. But outside of those 2 episodes, nothing in the season feels rushed to me and the episodes feel like they would have easily fit into Season 2. I understand why Season 1 and 2 fans like Season 4 less due to the different style, but I don´t really get the S3 hate since I don't see it as particularly different from S2.

I think the transitional nature of S4 is really felt but I do think it's pretty important given it's supposed establish Twilight's role as a princess(even if not done competently), moreso than S2 and S7. Season 2 introduced a new alicorn and Twilight's brother out of nowhere but it felt like it was more focused on the wedding rather than any massive status quo changes and S7's biggest contribution was thrown in the trash and virtually ignored the very next season when the writers got new toys to play with

That's fair and respectable, but you know what? You're absolutely right. I will admit, your right.

I was thinking about Twilight post S4 because there's not much you can do with her after she got her wings and a castle. With Season 4 itself, I can understand why Twilight was focused less (and save it for Twilight's Kingdom) because the season wants to focus on the other main characters and give them some character development. For the most part, they handled it well.

I don't know, maybe because Season 5 had three fantastic episodes of the show (Amending Fences, Crusaders of The Lost Mark, and Slice of Life) that I can forgive Season 5 for everything that happened. But now I think about it, Season 5 had a lot more bad than good. As wired as Season 4 was, at least there's a lot of memorable moments that I actually do like. Season 5 didn't have any of that. It was forgettable, middling, and kinda bland. With the Season 5 finale, this is where the show went downhill from there.

But yeah, as much as I love a couple of S5 episodes, I'll take Season 4 over Season 5 any day, despite its shortcomings (like Season 1-3).

The reason why I find Season 3 to be mediocre is because compare to Season 2, I find 3 to be forgettable. Don't get me wrong, I used to watch Season 3 alot (through brony reaction videos) back then, but once I rewatched Season 2 again last year, I find Season 2 to be much better than I remember.

Not to say Season 3 was bad (I actually do like Sleepless in Ponyville), I just find Season 2 to be a bit better.

But that's just me.
