Super mario bros. 2 wasn't just a dream. There is actually another game call BS Super mario bros 2 that says the land of sub con was actually a dream world. Meaning an actual world that could only be accessed by sleeping. Think Pokemon black and white Dream world. This also explains how the enemies in the game are seen again. (Some of them anyway).

That reminds me of another bit of voice trivia.

Jon St. John, voice of the tough-as-nails Duke Nukem... also voices Big the Cat.

If I remember right, Jon St. John also voices Basil in Amnesia: Justine.

Super Smash Brothers wasn't actually made by Nintendo. The developer coded the majority of the game by himself to make sure it was a solid, balanced game before taking it to Nintendo, to maximize the chances of them letting him include Nintendo characters. The only reason he wanted to use Nintendo characters is so it would sell more; the original idea was to have a 4 player, more free-moving fighting game, but he was scared that it wouldn't stand out enough by itself to be profitable.

It wasn't intended to do very well outside Japan, and indeed, was originally only going to be released in Japan. How wrong they were :)

Also, I'm not 100% sure about this part, but it's original title was Super Smash. Nintendo added "Brothers" to the end so people would associate it with Mario, again to increase sales.

Lesser known facts?! Now this is my kinda thread! Now I don't think I saw this one posted already: So did you know that Final Fantasy was actually supposed to be Square's final title? It was following a long string of poor selling games and they planned to bow out of the industry gracefully with their title "Final Fantasy", their last dream I guess you could say.

You want some off game facts? I follow this religiously, I love this kinda stuff! I was going to post all the stuff from here as it was relevant, but I figure this is easier xD http://didyouknowgaming.com/. CHECK IT OUT! This stuff is weird as hell.

I'd heard of this Didyouknowgaming site but I'd never actually been there.

Also, the FF fact had been posted already but it's always good to reiterate! xD

Last time I checked, Castlevania held the record for being the most platform diverse continuity (it has canon games on more systems than any other series). Not surprising if you're familiar with the series. It only has a game on pretty much every system ever :P

spy_taunts07.wav and spy_taunts08.wav, better known as

"Everyone back to the base, pardner" and "Why don't we just give up, pardner"

have been iterated in and out of the Team Fortress 2 game caches twice each.

For several years they remained in the GCFs as unused files, but then they were removed, then re-added.

In November 2011 a condition was finally added to use the sound effects, and now they can be heard in-game under the condition

"Backstab an engineer after he removes a sapper in 10 seconds".

Did you know that the Banjo Kazooie games have a lot of hidden innuendos of various kinds? Sexual, alcoholic, and swearing jokes were hidden all over them and they are so cleverly hidden you'd have to really look to see them.

This one might actually be more known but:

Did you know that Resident Evil 4 was originally intended to play like the original games in the series? It's dubbed Resident Evil 4.5 (or maybe it was 3.5) and you can find videos of it on Youtube. It was changed drastically and became the RE4 we know and love now.

Before the creation of the Cooperative Testing Initiative (the robots Atlas and P-Body), the developers of Portal 2 originally planned for co-op to involve two humans instead of two robots, with one player controlling the main character, Chell, and the other player controlling a co-op exclusive character named Mel.

Wheatley in Portal 2 was originally intended to be a group of personality cores helping you through the game, instead of just one. These cores are some of the ones used in the finall boss fight.

This is a snipet I read the Star Fox wiki

t was theorized that the Star Fox team had their legs amputated and replaced with futuristic prosthetics to prevent loss of consciousness while flying, as gravity tends to force blood away from the brain and toward the lower extremities. It is also likely that this was done not as a conscious artistic choice but rather a budget concern.

In any classic Sonic game, Robotnik flees after the final bossfight when his machine is destroyed, with Sonic chasing after him nearly a full-screen away, meaning Robotnik is somehow running faster than him.

In the European (non-english) version of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the sprite of Registeel was edited because the original pose of the sprite had it's left arm raised, resembling a Nazi Salute. However, for Platinum, this was changed across all regions.

Ever wonder why the Regi-Pokemon where in the Pokemon games?

Reggie, the president of Nintendo America, said that the game lacked the Regginator. So they put his name on some Pokemans.

And as a side not, wonder why Earthbound isn't on the VC yet? Reggie combined his powers with Giygas to create Regigigas, a Pokemon capable of keeping Earthbound at bay.

Another fun Pokemon fact is that the people who worked on Mother (Earthbound 0) would later go on to work on the Pokemon games. Mewtwo's design was inspired by the final boss of Mother. Here's a comparison between the two.

It's possible to "kill" the invisible water creatures in Amnesia: The Dark Descent by entering the water with a heavy object like a barrel and tossing it toward the splashes when they are close enough to strike.

Mew and Ditto are both genderless, weigh 8.8 lbs, have identical coloring both Normal and Shiny, and learn transform naturally. Also Ditto is found in Cinnabar Mansion, where Mew was studied and Mewtwo was created, and is also found in the Cerulean Cave, Where MEwtwo is located

Gun Game from call of duty and now battlefield 3 (a game where you kill someone and you level up to the next weapon) actually originated from Valve, it was first on Day of Defeat if I am not mistaken.
