What would you do with portals?

I'll start

 

Me: How fast do you think I can go in ten feet?

Friend: About 3 meters/second

Me: Try terminal velocity! *portal up, portal down* Weeeeeee.

Put portal on bottom of ocean, put other in the desert.

Place the two portals in eachother, creating a rip in the fabric of space and time which will hopefully result in a portal to...you guessed it, Equestria.

Or aim the blue portal at the top of Taipei 101 tower (One of the tallest buildings in the world), aim the orange at the bottom of someone or something, move the blue portal to the side of a wall (lobby of the same building perhaps) as they are falling, and right where they're about to land, aim the orange portal there. Boom, instant terminal-velocity cannon... And a giant hole in the wall.

What will happen if someone put a portal under a lava river? Will the portal stays there or get carried away because everything is melted?
