I'm not sure if anyone here has seen or even heard of this movie. Its called "Abominable" It take place in I believe the Adirondacks or Catskills Mtns. Its about this guy who recently lost his wife in a ski accident. He goes camping with his nurse (he became handicap during the accident). Later the night his camp gets terrorized by a huge I sasquatch like thing (yes i know it sounds like a B-movie).

It actually was a good movie and I recommend watching it but you won't want to go outside for weeks even if you live in the city. I think its by Stephan King.

Do you mean the one from 2006? It is not made by Stephen King, the movie is written and directed by Ryan Schifrin. The monster is Bigfoot, by the way.

It's not horror, but: The Mothman Prophecies

couldn't go to the washroom at night for two weeks after. ~

God I hated that movie :(

Of course, I'm a cryptozoology buff, so I was expecting it to be more about Mothman and not some mysterious Indrid Cold guy who likes to fuck with people.

Reminds me of my mother, I showed her a movie (I don't remember the name atm, but it was something with weird creatures in a forest) she got so scared she litereally started to cry afterwards. She gets scared of anything though..

I sure hope it wasn't The Village. Because nobody should ever show that piece of crap to anybody else they want to have a good relationship with. One of the worst movies ever. It had potential, but then NOPE LOL IM M KNIGHT SHAMALAMADINGDONG TIME FOR A HUGE FUCKING PLOT TWIST. And I would've been okay with the twist if it had been more like Sixth Sense or Unbreakable's twist; i.e. actually make sense. But no, he just had to come out of whatever is beyond left field for that particular plot point.

Anyway, probably Ringu or The Ring. I love both, and both have some advantages over the other. I think Ring does a better job with maintaining a creepy atmosphere throughout the movie, and pulls the story off a bit better, but Ringu definitely has some great imagery, some very effective uses of sound and music (and the lack thereof, great use of silence), and I'm a sucker for Japanese movies :)

Oh, and I might as well say, I didn't like Exorcist at all. Not even remotely scary, and I actually found it to be quite comical. Same with Poltergeist.

How funny, I agree with exactly everything you said in this post. (Except that you didn't like the Exorcist. I liked it but did not find it scary)

Anyways, no. It was not The Village. It was some weird movie from 2000 - 2010 or something. I remember it was about a girl going alone in the forest and alot of stuff happened to her. When she tried to get back the forest was endless and there came these grey weird creatures, like mutants or aliens idk. They hid behind trees and stalked her.

Hmm... not ringing a bell, sounds interesting though.

And the thing about the Village... if they had played out the first plot twist, it would've been fine. It was the second that made me say "okay, I'm done with this movie. I will not let this DVD sully my PS2 any longer."

Also, I think Let the Right One In deserves some talk. Not scary, but still one of the best damn vampire movie ever :)

Yeah, A Swedish movie B)

Låt den rätte komma in is the original Swedish title for it. Sweden doesn't make much horror movies, so I loved that this one turned out great.

By the way, I have a horror channel on youtube. idk if you have seen these videos but here are my video of some good horror movies:

Next video is not about good or scary horror movies (which this thread is about, so I guess I am posting off-topic content. And I don't care to be honest :> Anyways, this one is about the top most disturbing movies. I just wanted to post it :P

I've never watched a very scary movie before, because as a small child I had many nightmares and I would never dare go back into that state of only nightmares and no dreams. People wonder why I hate sleep so much :/

The first Paranormal Activity scared the daylights out of me; couldn't sleep for some time afterward.

The succeeding two didn't scare me at all.

I would have to say for me it is a tie between The Shining and The Blair Witch project. Both movies had stories that had never been done before. Both were great, because of all of the background information surrounding it. The Blair Witch Project had a documentary on the Blair Witch to make it more believable. Maybe they are just my favorite scary movies, because I'm sure there are scarier movies out there than those two.

The first half of Insidious was pretty damn shitpants.

It's a royal shame about that second half however, I don't understand how hard it was to just not do what they ended up doing.

Other than that the scariest film I've seen is probably The Woman in Black, which wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be.

You know, nobody is giving the Exorcist its due. I guess you would have to take it in its original context, no fancy CGI, the special effects of that time were state of the art. And lets not forget that people back then weren't prepared for this type of movie. Monsters and psychos are one thing, but the Devil? The Devil is some scary shit.

Yeah. The second half of Insidious was very bad and I got really disappointed.

saw

silence of the lambs

grudge

nightmare on elm street

the devil

those are the scariest movies i've ever seen

Not want to sound mean or anything but I absolutely hate when people doesn't say if they have watched the originals or the remakes. I mean how hard can it be to put a year next to the name? I am talking about The Grudge, Nightmare on Elm Street and The Devil here, by the way. Also, there are over 15 movies with the title "The Devil" ... Edited by Mr. Pillow

Insidious and Grave Encounters really scared the shit out of me! :o i was all alone and all others in the house ware sleeping and then i was watching Grave Encounters all alone, its a fucking scary movie and i shit my pants pretty often then,,. the worst part was that it got darker and darker all the time outside my window and there was mist coming so that made it all alot more scary... so i dont like scarymovies that much but i love " Scary Movie 1,2,3,4" ^^ thay are much more funny than watching the real scary movies :D agree??

For me, I would say The Blair Witch Project. For some reason that one really got to me, it gave me nightmares for weeks and made me really paranoid at night :(

Haha, our teacher showed us that movie during an English-class xD

Didn't find it that scary though.

I don't really find horror movies to be scary anymore, I either find them to be comical, well made, or so horribly made that they become comical. I guess I've gotten to the point where I've desensitized myself and have become mostly immune to the cheap scares that directors try to scare their audience with.

Horror movies never scare me, they are just so ridiculous and over the top that they're actually hilarious!

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

This isn't really a horror movie, but it's still my favorite movie along with Donnie Darko.

Paranormal Activity. Couldn't sleep for a week.

And I have another one, and well... it's not particularly horror, buuuuuuut... the fly (50's version). I'm an insectophobe (afraid of bugs) and seeing a fly's face up close on a man's body just scared the crap out of me. So to me, the Fly is as scary as any ghost story D:

Oh yeah, you bet ya. The worst part is, the whole movie I was thinking "What if that was me? What if I was part fly and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it? And I had to suck food through a straw and... UUUGH!!!!"

And Paranormal Activity, omg. The thing that makes it the most scary is that you never actually see the demon thing that's attacking them. You see it's shadow, and you see it possess the girl and stuff, but you never actually see it. That leaves it open to the viewer's imagination and that's when it get REALLY scary, lol.

Yeah the same here. I always try to find "scarier" horror movies than the ones I have watched but none of them has actually scared me. (Well, a few has made me jump because of totally unexpected scares, but I haven't been scared, if you know what I mean. This feeling of fear is one I never get.

@Silence of the Lambs.

This isn't really a horror movie, but it's still my favorite movie along with Donnie Darko.

First off, all horror movies are not as you say, ridiculous. There are many very good horror movies that actually are very realistic. And those for example, are movies you can NOT call ridiculous. So either you have only seen ridiculous horror movies or you can't appreciate the horror genre. In which case, you shouldn't be watching horror at all.

Ha! I'm gonna say it now and I am sorry if it offends you, but if you say Silence of the Lambs is not a horror movie, you are stupid. I can understand that you probably sees it as a thriller or something but the movie has enough material to prove it is a horror film.

wow, watch one! Start with one that isn't that extreme. I'd recommend a movie called "Hide and Seek" from 2005. It's a good one to start with.

I'll say it again, I think Paranormal activity was pretty lame and I can't understand how people can get scared of it. The Fly is an awesome horror movie! It is one of my (100000000000000000000000000000) favorites! Edited by Mr. Pillow

Uh...there is one movie that absolutely terrifies me and I...I know it's not THE scariest movie but the concept just TERRIFIES me.

I...I'm really scared of the Final Destination movies. ALL of them.

I know I know you guys'll go "but it's so silly, it's so over the top!" I don't care! I'm just TERRIFIED of the idea that Death has a plan for everyone and everyone's fated to die at a certain time! And MAN does he get pissed when that don't work.

I wouldn't be so scared if I hadn't had some uh...pretty close near-death experiences that I honestly would put down to being a little TOO lucky so it basically preys on my superstitious paranoia about fate and such.

Goddammnit that goddamn airbag scene in the second movie had me screaming for ages before I go to bed holding my head in panic.

There was a movie I saw awhile back that really blew my mind but it wasn't exactly scary. It's a French movie called Martyrs and has a really extreme plot twist in it that just blew my mind. The last half of the movie is definitely not for the feint of heart.
