What was your opinion on my little pony before you watched friendship is magic?

I hated it. I just did. Many people said I looked girly talked girly and rumors went about saying that I liked my little pony. That's when I started hating it. This was when I was about 5 or 6. My mum used to joke about with me saying hey son do you want me to buy you a my little pony collection for christmas whenever a my little pony tv advert came on. Then I discovered the new show and now I actually want the my little pony collection for christmas. :)

I knew it was the butt of many jokes in regards to its girly nature and immaturity, but otherwise I really didn't have an opinion on it. When I found out that a massive number of college-age men saw something perfectly legitimate and entertaining about it for them without feeling like they were being ironic, I tried to stay above it at first, but then succumbed. I haven't regretted it since.

I didn't care. I never really watched it but I did suspect that it was pretty girly due to the sheer amount if jokes regarding it. Friendship is Magic however, I just sat there and observed it from it's humble beginning on /b/ until things like Equestria Daily and stuff started popping up. I then realized "These guys are actually serious!"I and then checked it out a few months later. Life is about 20% better now.

Before I watched FiM, I thought MLP was gay as balls. Seriously, gayer then wrestling, which has other guys on top of other guys, sweating, grabbing each other...

You get my point. Not only was it gay as f*ck back then, but it had stupid and overused plot elements (though today, we're using the same plots every show in the world has used, but it's tried and true and it always entertains). The animation was tolerable at it's best, atrocious at it's worst.

Also, compared to nowadays, Technicolor looks like someone crapped on my screen. But I can't complain about that, just an observation.

Also now thinking about it I remember watching the old cartoons (god they sucked) it was just boring they are all happy and it was the same thing over and over. Thats what I love about the new show. Its got action excitement suspense sadness awsomeness! And it has a lesson in each episode too which I like

I loved it. I loved the 80's cartoon, and the 90's cartoon, just like I love FiM. Although I prefer the G3 style of pony toys than the new tiny ones, I do prefer the fact that the 80's toys put the cutie mark on both sides!!

I wish Hasbro would put the mark on both sides of the mlp toy's rump instead of the so called "display" side. I think it's cheap and lazy.

Well I guess we all have diffrent opinions. I just thought that it was all about happines and stuff like that. I wasnt into that kind of stuff. Plus the 80s animation scared the hell out of me. I love the new animation!

I've always loved cartoons. Loony Toons and Meerie Melodies were the first I was exposed to, then many others like Speed Racer, Voltron (the lions and the cars), GI Joe, 1st gen Transformer's, Go-Bots, Animaniacs, Simpsons, Sailor Moon, Futurama, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting. When I was young and watching G.I. Joe and 1st gen transformers I would never have watched MLP as it was a girls show (girls had cooties after all). When I was older and watching Animaniacs, Simpsons, Sailor moon, Futurama, etc. MLP wasn't a show that I knew was still around. Now that I have found FiM it's one of my favorite animated shows. I still watch Futurama, Loony Toons (the original from around '50-60), G.I. Joe, 1st gen Transformers, and the Simpsons.

I never bothered to actually watch the old show prior to FiM.

My sisters watched it, and I've heard mention of it but it never attracted my attention.

I didn't really have an opinion, to be honest. I didn't even know there were cartoons. Just toys, and I wasn't aware of even those until I came to the internet and saw an member on another forum that was very proud of her MLP collection. I probably was (vaguely) aware of its existence before then. I had to have been from commercials and stuff, but I never had any of the toys myself.

At that point I had absolutely no interest in sitting around and combing the manes of little toy ponies. However, I never formed an negative opinion towards it. I most certainly never expected I'd come to really enjoy an cartoon based off of it 7 to 8 years later, though!

Well, way before FiM I just thought it was a girly toy line and never watched any of the other shows, but I think that's a common thought.

I did not really have an opinion on the My Little Pony shows because I had totally forgotted about it. It was pretty much dead here. I do however remember that my little sister liked it very much when we were young and I did sometimes watch the "My Little Pony Tales" show with her. Since I actually took the time to watch it I guess I liked it, haha. When it comes to the My Little Pony toys and figues I don't know either. I did not play with them obviously since I am a boy, but I really enjoyed to put the ponies in prison when I played with my monster toys.

All I knew about MLP was that they were toys for young girls, and the movies appeared every so often in the $5 Wal-Mart bin. I had no opinion one way or another before FiM.

I've never actually WATCHED the previous generations, but I was never compelled to see them based on their target demographic. Now with Friendship is Magic, I actually thought it seemed kind of cool before I watched it, mostly because of all the art circling the internet.

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS

If you're talking about the franchise itself, I never really cared for it. It wasn't really as public around me as much as things like Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie or Bratz.

I hated the commercials though. That horrible theme song would never leave my head, no matter how hard I tried. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

So yeah, it just looked like another girly franchise that I always ignored before FiM came out.
