Whoops, sorry, I just realized now after re-reading some posts that you were talking to Aurora (I was kinda rushed yesterday and skimmed mostly everything). Give me a second to respond in my latest post :)

Never mind, I just realized you focused your attention elsewhere in the last paragraph. Sheesh, I'm the worst reader >.<

@,

It's sad to see you go, please do comeback to the RP if you do come to the website again

Anyways, I'm having lots of fun in this RP, now that Starry knows she was a human.

This is just something I found that I thought I'd share with everyone. I've made many characters in the past, but a lot of them tended to have "Mary Sue" traits. In my search to avoid such traits, I've found this: the Universal Mary Sue Litmus Test. A few people have said I was able to offset those traits enough with extreme flaws I would focus on, but I've been working on making more realistic characters in general.

That test is interesting, though. The funny thing is that if any of our characters answered truthfully, without considering the story we're writing them for, they would all qualify as "lost cause" Mary Sues, according to this test! Actually, any of the Mane Six would, too. I guess I forgot that we're writing characters for a franchise that just naturally needs overly "good" characters! :P

I just took it in the vein of Artsy. I got a 21. Not a Sue, and perfectly fine! Though not much has happened in this RP yet, so I couldn't answer the more action-based questions. I don't THINK I have a Mary-Sue though. Tend to play too much into self-depreciating territory.

When I took the test, I answered action questions as though she might do those things, but we just started and are unsure what will happen. If those events never end up in the story, it wouldn't really matter. :P

Avoiding what I did before, I actually retook this test, ignoring all the stuff about being "chosen ones" and "21st century humans who went through a wormhole," simply because that's what the story here is about. Everyone here is like that. I got a 22. :D

I guess I missed that part in the instructions that said "Sueness is relative."

I took the test because I was bored. Got 10 0_o

My score was originally 14, but the last part of the test that subtracted points for character flaws brought me down quite a bit. :3

Hey, don't drag the rest of us down with you! ;)

I took this test during the previous Shifted and scored very low. I can't remember the exact number, but I think it was somewhere near 14. And you can't say "without considering the story we've written", because whether a character trait is sue-ish or not is usually defined by their environment and the storyline they are a part of.

My favorite part of that test is how it points out, if you score VERY low, that the character should probably be spiced up a bit more. No one likes a completely uninteresting character. Every character should have something that sets them apart, or there's not much reason for him/her to exist.

I spend far too long discussing OCs on the internet for my own good. I think I'm just going to publish a book so that I can just recommend it to people whenever the subject comes up. I'll call it, "Follow My Advice, Not My Example: How To Write An OC".

Numbers scored a 7.

I want a recount!

Seriously though, he had a score of 11 before I got to the flaws section. Still in the “boring” range, but with this selection of questions, I think that's the best that I could do. I went over the questions several times, so I don't think I missed anything.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I don't post for 2 days, AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENS! I'm falling so far behind now >_<. My next post is probably going to be so rushed it's not even funny because I also don't have a clue as to what to post.

Welp, wish me luck.

I see what you mean. But what I was getting at was if you answer "yes" to all the questions like "Are you from 21st century earth, transported to another realm," "are you part of a bigger prophecy," "do you replace major canon characters in said prophesy," etc., you're going to get a really high score. The point is you have to ignore those questions because that's what the story itself requires. ;)

I do hope that no one got their dozen or so points just by answering the questions I just mentioned with "yes" ...

When I was doing it wrong, I ended up with a score of 145... when I realized the proper way to take the test, it went down to a 36. Then I unchecked all the questions about actions that might possibly occur in the story, but haven't... which took me down to a sensible 22. If the character is assessed for Sue-ness, it can't be taken out of context in the process. Try the test after taking any of our pony characters, or even the Mane Six out of Equestria and set them in New York City, and you'll end up with equally ridiculous results. :P

EDIT: Also, I'd like to point out that even a technically full-fledged Sue can be an excellent character, provided enough of their faults are showcased just as well--if not more so than their good traits. :D

Heh, I'm writing a fanfic (currently on hiatus) that features an alicorn character named "Merry Sparkle". She's Twilight Sparkles older sister, and she was adopted as princess of the far off land of Alicornia, where everyone loves her unconditionally. You can not imagine how fun it is to write for such a character, and make fun of her at every opportunity.

@@Electrobolt,

His dad kicked him off his computer before he could post. He has a very stringent computer time, and he was in a hurry before he got kicked off. So it'll have to wait until his dad falls asleep or until tommorow morning. Probably the latter. But if he doesn't have a post by then, I will be moving things on.

Hmm... The RP has been oddly silent for a while... And no new posts since mine, too...? Also, Skyman said he's try to post, albeit rushed, but nothing? What happened there? o.o

It was like this last time, too. :( All the way until the battle with Discord, everyone was blitz-posting in a frenzy. I'd log on to see a new page of posts every day. And then, soon as Discord was gone, so too was the activity. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

Okay, since we're a bit too slow for my liking, I'm gonna decrease it back to two responses. So now you only have to wait until two people respond after your last post to post again. If that gets too quick, I'll move it back to three.

Prepare thineselves though. I'm gonna make a biiig post.

I was prepared for big post, but I definitely wasn't prepared for:

Gigantic and terrible glistening insects, misshapen with ebony carapaces as far as she could see...

It was almost as if, in the midst of their buzzing, they had had voices...

Sweet mother of Celestia… Such vivid imagery! I could see it, and I could hear it…

Potent nightmare fuel, and I was just about to call it a day.

Look out everypony, I posted again! It seems that Magenta has an irrational fear of bugs, as well as an unhealthy fixation on a certain pony's particularly attractive hat... :P

Woot! Klopp has gone into defender mode! Woah, I need to go to bed, look at the time!

I'll post again later. Expect some obligatory gushing of "My hero...." :P

I just wanna clarify: That Artsy's blast scared AWAY the insect thingies. They aren't flying towards anyone, or anywhere near them anymore. They flew off into the sky. Just in case some people were confused.

Also, Nico's computer has exploded into a fiery ball of flames once again as it often does, and he has told me to announce to you that he can no longer be in the roleplay. He'll be welcome back anytime though, like Resolution, when his computer gets fixed.

If one more person leaves, I'm re-opening this RP.
