But the increasing amount of data, combined with the rising number of visitors accessing and adding to it concurrently, had begun to cause some noticeable performance bottlenecks. Bottlenecks like over a hundred queries waiting on a locked table. Your notifications hanging because someone else was currently receiving a new one. Fun stuff like that. After coming across the rather shocking list of database processes above, I called up for an impromptu server optimization session. Working together, we spent a couple of hours tweaking the server, analyzing logs, tweaking the server, moving millions upon millions of pieces of data into a different database engine, tweaking the server... and did I mention tweaking the server? What was the result of all this? Seriously enhanced site speed, that's what. Enough speed to make Rainbow Dash seriously worried, that is. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png Our estimates peg the speed of most pages to be at least three times faster now, if not more. The time it takes to load a page on MLP Forums has always been of relatively high concern for me, so I'm pleased to say that we're now the fastest pony forum in the world. Speed is always a high priority of traffic activity and attraction. It only makes sense for the best pony forums on the interwebs stay worthy of that title, and it's thanks to you guys that it's maintenance and upgrades are 100% perfect. You know, Feld0. I've always wondered how you're so good at programming at such a young age. Thanks for the site update! It'll be useful! It's basically something he grew up doing. If you have one passion in life, like say something incredible like programming and computing, you can start early, and once you get the hang of it, you can surprise people with your surprisingly high skill at an age people wouldn't expect a master in that category to be! I've recently been having a lot of issues with notifications and pages loading slowly; in fact, I actually thought it was on my end at first. You guys are so dedicated to improving the community; with Feld0 and Scootacool improving forum speed and Zoop finishing the FAQ. Along with Dreamwalker, I wont really be able to tell a big difference cause my connection is slower than granny smith, but ya'll are great to begin with, so the fact that you are able to improve the speed that much just demonstrates how efficient everything is.
