movies/tv Ever Wonder Why You Didn't Like Something as a Kid?

Well? Ever looked back at a cartoon or show you weren't that into as a kid and go "this is awesome, why didn't I like it as much back then?"

Thundercats and Batman TAS are good examples for me.

Hmm...there is actually a lot that I can think of, let me name a few:

Johnny Bravo

CatDog

Rocket Power

The Angry Beavers

Batman TAS

oh and Rocko's Modern Life :)

As a kid, I wasn't really into cartoons. I didn't really like watching them until I was probably 12 or 13....and I don't really know why.

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory instantly comes to mind. I recall of liking it when I was very little, but then suddenly thinking that I didn't like it anymore. Obviously, the psychedelic tunnel and the blueberry scene both scared the crap outta me for different reasons. I didn't watch the film again in its entirety until 2008, when I started loving it again.

Honestly I've not had anything like that. More informative shows, documentaries and the like, maybe, but other than that... It's mostly just shows that I DID like before, but DON'T now.

"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being 'grown up', to admire the 'grown up' because it is 'grown up', to blush at the suspicion of being childish; These are the marks of childhood and adolescence. When I was a kid, the show I did not like to watch was Gargoyles. Mostly I did not like the Gargoyles charters that much and the monsters fighting machines. If anything the villains were the best part about that show.

The only thing I can think of is possibly heavier metal, like Fear Factory, Cradle of Filth, etc. Otherwise, I was a fairly open-minded little child.

When I was a wee lad I used to despise My Little Pony. But just look where I am now. On a forum about My Little Pony talking about ponies while watching ponies on youtube and arguing over which one is the cutest (Fluttershy). Life sure is full of surprises.

I stopped liking Avatar: The Last Airbender as a kid because my mom thought it was weird. After LoK came out I went and watched TLA and I wished that I had never stopped watching. I don't like I could appreciate the storyline or characters or anything.

Pretty much everything in the Disney Afternoon. Duck Tales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Talespin...

Of course, when I grew older, I despised Kim Possible. Like, literally, the theme song would make me cringe and change the channel, even though the theme song was awesome. Same with Powerpuff Girls and Invader Zim. I just wasn't into action cartoons, and decided to watch more comedy oriented stuff like Spongebob, Rugrats, Animaniacs, Catdog and stuff.

Also, I didn't watch Avatar:The Last Airbender either because I couldn't get into the story, and didn't want to bother starting with the first episode. I still haven't watched more than 3 full episodes of it to this day, even though I really want to get into Legend of Korra.

Huh..Tacos. That's what comes to my mind. I used to dislike tacos, now I love 'em. But that's not a media thing..Um..Animal Crossing. I used to hate it's slow paced-ed-ness, but now I can appreciate it.

Yeah, Animal Crossing isn't Movies/TV but whatever.

From my childhood, Hey Arnold! Comes directly to mind, the stories were always really boring to me, also Batman TAS as well, unless Joker was the featured villain of the story, I don't know why, but when I saw him creeping on the screen I couldn't change the channel, I believe I associate that feeling with, "complete and utter fear."

I never got into Family Guy or Futurama when I was a kid >.< It was all about the Simpsons back then, plus my parents wouldn't allow to me to watch shows like that until I grew older, I never knew why until I was old enough to see it xD It's very humorous in an un-mature way but it would of been a disaster for my child-hood if i saw it without my parents warning me about it.

Not really, my interest have stayed the same as far as television goes. If anything it's that I've grown out of some of the cartoons I used to watch as a kid, not the other way around.

I never liked overly girly stuff or overly boy-oriented stuff as a kid. I just couldn't get into My Little Pony, Barbie, or other overly-girly things, nor could I get into Power Rangers or Batman TAS. I did like Powerpuff Girls, which could be seen as a girls' show, and Pokemon, which could be seen as a boys' show. But, the reason I liked those, was because they had a sense of there still being something in them for the other gender as well, unlike things which screamed girly or manly. Mostly, though, I watched shows that were pretty gender-neutral: Rugrats, Cow and Chicken, and Invader Zim to name a few. I just never liked it when I felt like a show was trying to cater towards only one gender (no offense to the shows I thought that about, it's just how I felt as a kid).

But now, I actually quite enjoy Barbie movies. Sure, they're nothing too spectacular, but I think they're decent for what they are. And I actually enjoy the generation 3 cartoon series of MLP (not 3.5, though - that one is too horrible for even me XD). It's certainly not FiM, but it's still pretty fun. Some of the songs are good, I really like Minty's character, and Rainbow Dash acting like FiM's Rarity is pretty lulz-worthy.

No, but there have been many occasions where I've reflected on my childhood and wondered how it was that I did like something.

And then I can't help but wonder if there's anything other than nostalgic value that keeps me liking it to this day.
