Peachy Pie and Pinkie Pie - related?

In the episode "The Show Stoppers", there's a filly named "Peachy Pie" who's in the talent show along with Sunny Daze, another filly. "Pie" might be a common surname, but what do you think? Are they related?

After looking at her tail, there is a slight resemblance between her's and Pinkie Pie's, though of course that Pinkie's tail is a lot fluffier than Peachy's. Do you notice the fluff at the top of Peachy's tail?

The similarity from the last names doesn't rightfully means that they're related

Her tail does look the same, but not enough clue to say that she's Pinkie Pie's relative

Doubt it, Pinkie Pie never mentioned Peachy Pie and she should of come to watch the talent show with Rarity, AJ, RD and Twilight to see her perform.

True, but Twilight never mentioned Shining Armour at all when both seasons were still airing. You'd think that relative who's captain of the royal guard with royalty as his girlfriend who happens to be the brother to the Element of Magic would get some sort of attention...

I really don't think so, like everyone else brought up, there really isn't that much evidence that a last name means anything.

 

Also, I don't know for sure, but shouldn't she have also been mentioned at all during Pinkie's flashback.

Her name, like most of the other background ponies, is unmentioned and therefore unconfirmed officially thus given a name by the general community.

 

Her tail design is similar mainly because in the show they commonly use similar mane, eye, and/or tail styles for more than one pony, regardless if they are related or not. For instance, Twilight Sparkle's mane can is the same one as her mother's (blood-related), and some white pegasus background pony (no relation whatsoever). Her name escapes me, I think it had "Blossom" in it...

 

Anyways, don't suggest relation if they have similar appearances and/or colors. All the ponies have the same structure, so they can't come up with a unique design all the time.

Nah it wouldn't make sense to me. Granted their tails do look similar, but that doesn't mean they are related. Neither does the last name.

To be honest, i don't even know why this is being discussed.

She was in one of the episodes and the animators got lazy when it comes to designing new ponies. So they mixed one up.

Yes we can. If Hasbro thinks they can make money off of making Peachy Pie Pinkie's sister or something, they will make it happen regardless if it makes sense.

Last names in this show are confusing sometimes. Lets look at Mr. and Mrs. Cake as an example. Does anyone think that Cup Cake was just called Cup for like 20 years of her life before getting married to Carrot Cake? I don't think so.

 

As for the question, I don't think so. I don't think last names work like that in their world. Besides Pinkie Pies tail was made fluffy by the sonic rainboom. So it's not a birth thing.

 

Edit-Also, if Pinkie has family in Ponyville, why would she live the Cakes?

 

Update- You do have a point about the tail thing. Carrot Cake and Pumpkin Cake do have the same kind of tail. Both color and look.

Star Weaver and others have pointed out quite rightly that the naming conventions in Equestria are unlike our own. It's hard to derive relationships on that basis alone.

 

Without any other material, canonical or otherwise, to corraborate the claim, I am of the opinion that Pinkie Pie and Peachy Pie are completely unrelated.
