What's up with Rarity?

I think overall in the series they lay that side of Rarity on a bit thick and I think that is why a lot of fans don't like her that much. Rarity has a great deal of potential as a character but I think that over emphasizing her negative traits is what is holding her back from that potential. Yes it is part of her personality and yes doing it for comedic effect like in Sleepless in Ponyville but it seems a bit much at times.

I came late to the party damn!

first of all Rarity is a diva and fabulous! gurl, you just don't mess with a fashion diva *waves mane*

on a more serious note, that's honestly how expected Rarity to be in a outdoors camping, though it was a bit too much exagerated, but that's what divas do, they exagerate right?

her situation with Sweetie Belle was more for comedy purposes, and yes it worked! ;) Rarity IS THE FUNNIEST character of the entire show (sorry Pinkie Pie) and I enjoy to see her on screen no matter what does she do.

It looked that she was a bad sister to Sweetie Belle, but it wasn't because Sweetie manipulated her at first to get to camping. This relationship between sisters is kinda complex, but it's based  on mutual agreement, you could see despite Rarity's crazy diva antics, that she cares for Sweetie Belle deeply and that Sweetie looks up to her.

nothing happened here, she's still best pony and nothing will change that (unless a dumb writer ruins her character, which haven't happened yet IMO)

To be fair, the person who wrote this episode had never written an episode for the show before, so she's not used to writing the characters. Usually every writer has a character they write the best or worst, and maybe this writer is skilled at writing a character like Rainbow Dash but struggles with prissy characters like Rarity.

Even so, I thought she was in-character when she acted all snobby about camping. She's just the kind of person who would hate being outdoors. And about Sweetie Belle. she could have volunteered off-screen to pull Rarity's cart for her. I doubt Rarity would just force Sweetie Belle to do something like that.

Whatever this new writer did to Rainbow Dash, I loved it!

And, whilst I agree Rarity has seemed quite different, I did like her in Sleepless in Ponyville, she wasn't snobby, she was kind and sisterly.

Don't forget that in the first season she was hoping to go to the gala to meet a prince and marry him to become the most beautiful princess in the land.

I can see where people are coming from but I still think it's within character. And to be fair, not only was it a new writer it was also a Scootaloo/Rainbow Dash centric episode so I'm guessing that's where most of the effort went to.

She's fine... A little bit to "Oh god no!! A sweat drop!! My life is ruined!!!", I guess she just represents her character best like that. Actions like those give a little more colour to her character.

The episode wasn't centered around Rarity, so it makes sense that her character is going to come off as a one-dimensional Diva.  Having Sweetie pull the carriage was meant as more of a gag- it is a cartoon aimed at little girls.  We know from other episodes that she isn't like this- she actually embodies her element perfectly, but that's for another post.  I think when we get a Rarity-centered episode we'll see her more in-depth character traits.

I don't see it. She's been really funny to me in season 3. I loved the fact that she made sweetiebelle carry her stuff when it looked like she was XD

She's pretty much supposed to be like that

I agree. I liked the diamond dog episode so much because they said, you know what it is okay to be girly. I feel the hate toward the show is already a little sexist, so the girliest pony on the show should more frequently stand up and say that there's nothing wrong with girly things! None of the other ponies are very feminine, so I don't like it when they show the most feminine character as the annoying, selfish one.

I was upset at first with the Sweetie-Belle pulling the cart thing, but every night Rarity comforted Sweetie Belle after the scary stories and she genuinely was having fun with her sister. Big sisters can be really, really mean. It's just the way they are!

I love Rarity, she is tied for my favorite pony! You can both love girly things and be strong!

I would disagree with none of the other ponies being very feminine, sure they are not quite as much the girly girl that Rarity is and it is fair to say that for Applejack and Rainbow Dash they just don't show as much of that side as they do for Rarity and when they do it is not as obvious. I also liked the Diamond Dog episode because it is one of the few episodes that showed Raritys full potential as a character, seeing her play them for suckers was hilarious and Spikes daydream of being the knight in shining armor rescuing his crush was the icing on the cake.
