Ponysona: What's it to you?

Steel Accord

See that image in the top left corner? That's me. Some liberties have been taken but that was done by a former (not ex!) girlfriend of mine. So it's an accurate approximation of myself as a pony and proud citizen of Equestria!

Now not everypony has or wants a ponysona and that's fine; but to those who do have one, what does it mean to you? How important is it to you? Is it you as you would be if you were just plopped into Equestria right now? Or do you have an alternate life built as a back story? Is it you as you are, or wish to be? (Or a bit of both?) Where does it sit in your cognitive process?

For some context on what the Hell I'm talking about; I'll use myself as an example. According to Carl Jung the Self is the ideal in one's own personality. It's you without whatever facade one you put up in day to day life. I've come to see my ponysona as my self. Indeed, whenever I have a "thought spot" (think "thought cloud bubble" in cartoons) if I'm a factor, my ponysona is the stand in image rather than what I see in the mirror. In a dream I had last night, I was even referred to as "Steel" and not my actual name. (Even though I was still human in the dream.)

In direct relation to ponies; my ponysona is my mental avatar. Acting either like the Greek Chorus or the Big Damn Hero depending on the context. When commenting upon episodes, my audible comment is usually followed up by an imagining of me repeating my snarking to whoever was the target of criticism. (Mostly Pinkie and Rainbow.) Or my repeated fantasies of maiming Discord in various fashions.

So with all that said. What is your ponysona to you? Is it just that, a persona you put on as a face to the fandom? An expression of who you are and what you stand for? An escape when life gets you down? A vehicle for creative interaction with the characters themselves? All of these things? Some of them? None of them? Speak friends, share your thoughts.

My ponysona is an amplifier of my real world personality because like me, Doctor XFizzle is smart, witty, funny, and down right sexy.

To me, a Ponysona is a kind of pony-fied version of yourself, kind of saying "this is who I am"

Well... Cloud Puff ( http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/cloud-puff-r1812 ) is kind of my Ponysona.. I am very interested in weather, and if ponies swam, she would. There is a lot more about her that I didn't list in the character page...

My Ponysona? To me its a work of art; a way of expressing myself and my emotions that I would not normally be able to do as me. Some people would call it cowardice, hiding behind the wall of anomnity that is the internet. But thats besides the point, because to me  it is a no strings attached way for me to just talk to people without having to worry about the stress that sometimes comes with it.

Plus, its a sexy lookin Orange Pegasus, whats not to like?

This is me as a pony, I'm sure everypony knows Motion Spark at this point.

He's well thought from head to toe to match me, even his name is related to me. My biggest passion is to create art, so that's what I gave to him if I were a pony. He has most of my of my good qualities in term of personality but I kept aside my bad traits to give him his own character.

His background relate of him as a pony who comes from a foreign Land or Kingdom, and he's struggling to make a living first in Seaddle then Ponyville to become a very well known artist, pretty much what I want to do in Real Life. Going to study a proper carrer for me in another place.

I may have 2 ponies under my wing, but technically I have only one OC (Beat Spark), Motion is ponysona/OC for once being playable in a RP.

My ponysona is still in development and I should add isn't the picture I use as my avatar.

I really should get on to sketching it up really.

But to me the ponysona is all the things I am and strive to be (as a person and as a pony).

My ponysona (my second OC, still a WIP in many ways) is a mix of both who I am, and who I wish I could be. He's a flyer, like I am in real life (flight student), and he shares a lot of my real life personality traits - he lives for the night, he's introverted, but is also more open when he's around his best friends. Plus he is meant to look like me a bit (goatee, spiky hair, I have a similar vest to the one he wears).

As for his background, he'll probably deviate from me a bit (or more), just to make it something more interesting/Equestria-related than my real life backstory.

On a more existential level, he is a bit of an escape/a way to fulfill my fantasies of being a pony. I'm going to be completely honest, when I first became a brony, and saw the way the pegasi lived, I felt a wee bit jealous/depressed. I've always been kind of envious of birds and other flying creatures, being able to fly with their own wings, to have a natural connection to the sky that humans will never have. And seeing the pegasi were kind of a more fantastical extension of that, with an even stronger sense of longing. Stratos at least helps me live out some of those fantasies in my imagination, and will be my mindform whenever I lucid dream and I can shapeshift (if I can ever get good at it!)

I know kindred spirits when I see them!  Not trying to rip on the other's but it's clear from your posts that you view your ponysona's with the same intensity that I do, even if the method is different. (Which it may not be even that much.)

Motion Spark, you particularly have put some work into your . . . well self? for lack of a better term without sounding repetitive. I too, have something of a creative drive, but my medium is narrative rather than oil. The pen, rather than the brush. The shaman, rather than the cave painters! The . . . rambling drunken gryphon rather than the changeling graffiti artist!

Cirrus (or would you prefer Rusty?), I know the feeling, I've taken flying lessons before and I can sympathize with your viewpoint. I didn't choose to be a pegasus because they can fly, but it's a nice bonus. Pegasi are also creatures of the air like few other fantasy creatures, period! Most I can think of live in trees or tall mountains. Being able to stand on and manipulate clouds as if they were solid matter sure opens up possibilities! Cloudsdale particularly is my second place I would like to live after Canterlot. Ever wonder if it was recently established, like Ponyville? Or do you think it's comparable to Canterlot in age?

I've spent 2 months trying to decide and perfect my ponysona, and i'm still not done!

It means alot to me, because i see myself, not just a random pony, and with it i can feel a little bit part of the equestrian world...

It has already been said, but to me, a Ponysona is "just" a ponified version of you.

^ So much THIS, except I'd rather be an earth pony. :P

Also, I don't have a proper ponysona yet, I want to let my (lucid) dreams to decide that for me, it this happens anytime haha.

If it DOES happen, you've earned my never ending jealousy. I've been trying to learn lucid dreaming specifically for the purpose of visiting Equestria! I've yet to so much remember a pony dream! The things I would do . . .

-Kill Gilda (or at least deliver a well deserved beating)

-vandalize Discord's statue form

-Cloud surf in Cloudsdale

-Spend . . . time with Fluttershy

-APPLEBUCKING!

Same here dude. Trust me, it's not a lot, but when you can look at a picture of your ponysona drawn into a background from the show and be able to affirmatively say, "E'yup, that's me!" It's a great feeling.

To me, it's me...but as a technicolor equine of small stature! I have a fursona, so I have a ponysona as well. They both represent me, though one is from someone else's own universe (in the case, Lauren Faust's).

I think most creators have their own avatars to stand in for them. It's a thing they do.

Are you yourself, a creator? What's your medium? Song? Art? Poetry? You may be accustomed to it, but this is all very new to me. Not only did I not have a custom avatar beyond RPGs (Now that I think about it, this is probably why playing D&D was so much fun!) but I also never thought of writing as a serious practice until ponies came into my life. (Yet another reason why I consider "brony" to be an honorific title in my life.)

Oh no, Cirrus isn't my ponysona, he's another OC I made, my first OC. Stratos, my second OC is the OC that is my ponysona. Cirrus is meant to be more of an allegory for all of humanity - the quest for powered flight - than me in particular. Though I made them both pegasi for pretty much the same reason...the romance of flight and all...

To be honest I actually would have very little interest in living in Canterlot. Obviously Cloudesdale would be like a heaven for me, being a city in the sky (sometimes I wouldn't mind if it actually was heaven [like a personal heaven thing], which is kinda ironic because I always thought the idea of a "clouds and light" interpretation of the afterlife was kinda cliche. Oh well. *shrugs*). And I kinda like the small-town, slower pace of Ponyville as my second choice. Canterlot would probably be number 4, after Las Pegasus at number 3.

As for age, I think it is pretty old, like back to the days of Commander Hurricane.

Silverhoof is my ponysona. He is pretty much me with the same attitude. I even wrote a chapter of fan fiction--its a blatant self insert, but I've got good reviews so far. (need to get the next chapter done)

Unicorns and telekinesis are really what define me. I like a limited but powerful magic talent. Silverhoof has tree magic. You wouldn't think of it as offensive magic, but he killed a manticore with it. Fire magic is overdone and you can't make a living with it. I would prefer to use magic as my means of employment, a magic contractor if you will. And a trained telekinetic can make up for any lack of offensive power.

As for Equestria. Yeah, I'd love to go.  In a country minute.

Oh sorry Stratos. "Cirrus" was just listed below, so I assumed that was you. You know what they say about assuming!

Hey, if Cloudsdale is what makes you happy, I don't see why it couldn't be Heaven. ALL of Equestria seems like Heaven to a lot of people, including me. Though I believe that's more of "step" if you will. We are all trying to get there; life and death are just levels proceeding what Heaven is. The Ultimate Existence that is beyond human comprehension. You're right though, in that Cloudsdale's imagery is very reminiscent of the "Fluffy Cloud Heaven" (Which kind of gives Discord's destruction of it new meaning. ) http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FluffyCloudHeaven

That adds to it's appeal, in my humble opinion. And your estimate to it's age only moreso. That's one of the reasons I like Canterlot, cities of great age always have the appeal of the endurance of whatever civilization built them.
