Season 3 not as good as season 2?

I have to disagree with you on this one because I find season three is turning out much better than season 2. Sure it is still too early to make a solid conclusion, but I can say that with the 7 episodes that we have seen so far, I have high hopes for the rest of the season. Perhaps this is due to the shorter season length. I find that with the 26 episode season lengths, when re-watching anything from the 1st or 2nd season, it is very hit or miss. Many of the episodes are great, but there are some that I definitely avoid. With season 3 however, so far there have been no episodes that I absolutely loathe. The quality of the show has improved significantly as well as the storytelling. It is only natural that something gets better over time.

 

Let's hope that they are cutting down quantity for quality .

In all honesty the episodes of Season Three aren't all that bad, not even a step down in any way, in fact, they are pretty much on par with the previous seasons with Sleepless in Ponyville being on the Highest tier IMO

I cannot put my finger on what exactly it is, but season 3 has had a different FEEL to it than either of the others. I have not idea what it is about it, and I'm also not sure whether it's a good or a bad thing, but it's been bugging the heck out of me... I think the season has all been very good, but this sensation that something is either missing or new that I can't quite discern is seriously bugging me... Anyone having a similar feeling about it?

The animation is cleaner with even more emphasis on timing. Even something as simple as that can change the feel of a show though it will maintain its overall look and feel. Also the morals are written into the episodes but not emphasized in a letter to Celestia at the end except (too many pinkie pies I think). We also had our first reoccurring villain. Maybe thats whats causing that nagging feeling.

 

I think something we should all keep in mind as well is the dept they have given characters. So much can be discerned just by small actions the characters make. One Bad Apple was an episode I originally though was meh, but on re watching it  I found a lot of little character motions such as the subconscious tail blocking the blank flank added dept to that character. There are certain scenes where you can tell Babs seems a bit uncomfortable with diamond tiara and silver spoon.

 

Scootaloos night terrors and the internal battle she struggles with through the episode between her two fears. Scootaloo is terrified to get those branches, but more scared of failing to do so in front of Rainbow Dash.

 

Pinkie Pie faces the dilemma of causing her friends much sadness, the exact opposite of her very purpose in life. We also see her accept responsibility and provide the solution to the problem. 

 

Twilight deals with the over bearing fear of failure, and questions her own adequacy. She also is shown to be able to sacrifice her own well being for others. Twilight actually fails in what she is best at, magic. In magical duel she has to use nothing but her cunning and the realization that her friends are an invaluable asset even without those stinking elements of harmony. She learned to be strong without the use of her greatest ability.

 

These were very very short descriptions and Im sure I could go much much deeper into them, Im sure others already have. The point is with as much dept we get from the characters in mlp and in this season do you really think the quality is decreasing? I seem to recall people saying the same of season 2, I think we can all agree that season 2 was awesome.
