Autistic brony insult?

.....

Recommended Posts

Don't let it bother you too much, There's no real definition for what it actually means. It's a thrown-around term that's interpreted differently based on who you're talking to. Just take it with a grain of salt, when people say that about bronies they don't mean to actually insult autistic people, they mean to call bronies stupid (which to them is synonymous with autistic), and if someone who doesn't know anything about you or what you do outside of ONE particular interest, then so be it. Let them have their fun, they're the stupid ones.

I have autism, I also have it's hand in hand partner asbergers.

I don't want autism to turn into something like the "n" word.

Where it used to be ungodly offensive, but culture "toned it down" to be less offensive.

Yea I try to ignore those comments, and i'm autistic too. So if the person they are referencing off of can walk away and stay cool, then everyone shouldn't have a problem.

Autism  :yay:

Autism Awareness be nice!  :squee: Maybe we should just teach people to not act like dumbasses!

I hope it doesn't turn into that, but knowing trolls, it'll happen anyway. I just am offended by it because trolls are using the word out of it's stereotype of making people stupid. It can make people stupid, but NOT always.

I know I'm going to sound like a fool here, but I will say that I've heard of autism. However, I do not know what it does exactly. How does it affect a person born with it? I wonder because I have asscioated with people apparently afflicted with it. However, I detected no difference between them or someone who doesn't have it. So how does autism work, if I may ask. And please, forgive my lack of knowledge upon the subject.

As unfortunate or detrimental as it may be, social norms change over time, the n word was never offensive in the eastern part of the world or in a good part of South America from what I know, in fact, the word is very close to the word meaning literally "black people" in one language or another, often times people say it without thinking it might be offensive to others, as much as you may think that someone trying  to insult bronies knows its an offensive word, I'd venture to say a lot don't think about it, how many of them actually know an autistic person personally, I wonder?

Referring to the other posts, i have to say, I haven't had any close relationship with someone who is before. Most of the time the people I talk to are just bored theorists.

Even Doug Walker in character as the Nostalgia Critic apologized for an inappropriate joke about autistic people as seen in this 2nd half of his second list of Nostalgia Critic F**ks-ups

Watch from 6:08-7:27 to see my point. Video does contain language.

I myself am a high-functioning autistic person with Asperger's and didn't take the removed joke to be too offensive. Just because I'm a autistic Brony DOESN'T mean ALL Bronies are autistic.

So I've been going through YouTube lately.

Hold on, stop.

Wat?

Um.

Since when should we care about what the peanut gallery thinks? Let alone Youtube commentors, who are the creme de le creme upon the hieherachial tree of morons. Most to none of these guys...

A: Give an actual shit about any of the crap they're saying. Most of them are feeding the fire of hate and drama because they can.

B: Actually have the intelligence or maturity to ever understand what's actually going on, and will never, ever get past the 'guys like ponies? hurr durr that's gay hurr' stage of thinking.

C: Bias and steryotypes aside, are not the kind of people who's opinions matter. If someone has the time to go around and spread their dislike of something on websites just for the sake of it, I know I automatically null and void anything that comes out of their mouth, or off their keyboard.

True. They only attack us bronies because they figure that most of us, if not all, are autistic and use it as a insult to trigger us more or less. Such verbal assult annoy me because I like I said before, I have autism and it's hand in hand partner asperghers. To top it off, I have a Learning Disability and I bet i know more larger vocab than most those trolls. Meh, either way it's a pointless struggle. Ignoring it, as hard as it is to, is the best remedy for it.

Personally, I'm just really glad to see people with autism themselves posting their opinions here. From all I see you're going about understanding and dealing with the issue the right way.

Thanks for taking your time to share your thoughts on the subject, folks.

Well guys, the main reason I do get offended this is mainly because I'm mildly autistic myself.

I'm the type of guy that you'd never know that unless I told you.

Plus last year people in my 10th grade class some douchebags used my disability to constantly harass me.

It's a pleasure. Honestly, I'd prefer if people in general did this more often IRL. I always suggest ways to friends to help vent their frustrations in productive ways. We can accomplish so much more when we talk this stuff out.

Calling someone 'autistic' is just the latest way of insulting someone and when used in this context is virtually indistinguishable from 'retarded'. Best advice I can give you is to just have thicker skin. Both the internet and real life have troublemakers and it's never going to stop. Just tell them to shut up and move on.

I have aspergers so I'm more sensitive to insults I think then 'normal' people are but I've learned to deal with it.

Oh yeah and save yourself a lot of anger and don't argue with these kinds of people. Nothing good comes from arguing over stupid shit over the internet.

This wasn't an argument as much as venting pent up anger. I do see what you mean though. Though talking it out can help then just holding it in. You just need to talk to the right people.

My belief on the word 'normal' is that it's a stereotype to status quo. Nothing more. Normalcy is not real, it has no form. It's a perception of the mortal thought process. What one may perceive as normal, my not be the case for another.

I've never understood where the whole, all Bronies have autism thing comes from, and it seems like sometimes, we go out of our way to make it seem more like everyone does.

At Bronycon, they had a system of color badges.  Green meant you could approach and talk to them, Yellow meant that if they wanted to talk to someone, they'd approach them, and red meant that they didn't want to talk to anyone.

It sounds like a really great system, but I hardly saw anyone with any of those badges, aside from one guy who had a green badge and a red badge at the same time, which confused the heck out of me XD

Apologies. I guess I read it a little wrong. Yes, ignoring them is the best way. The stress is not worth anyone's time.

Hah, that guy sounds like an epic troll. The fact is, autism is very common among bronies and they know this, so they use it as a way to annoy us. It's their loss they don't know the magic of friendship :>

I have Autism. I have Asperghers Syndrome. I have been dealing with it my entire life but didn't even know I had it until I was 17. I'm 23. Since then, my life has spiraled into hell, gone done so many dark alleys that I could create a new lair for villains and pillpushers, and made me just go insane. At this point, if someone wants to insult me for watching this show...I have more pressing matters to deal with inside my own head.

One thing I really hate about people is the whole "oh, well my ____ is Autistic so..." no, you DON'T know. Even if you LIVE with someone who is, you still aren't THEM. People always try and grasp where I'm coming from and I continually tell them that to try and even explain what is going on in my head would be suicide for their mind.

It's not pretty. My disorder has made me paranoid, socially awkward(as it does anyway), depressed, anxious and more. So...where am I going with this...I just hate labels. It also makes me mad people call it a good thing too. In my opinion this kind of disorder does more bad than good. I've lost friends, my head doesn't know what to do in life it's just...horrifying really.

People want to pick THIS to insult me about? Go ahead, I've heard it all, but don't label all MLP people as Autistic, because that's really ******* up...

Taking a class in college years ago about the Sociology of Deviance really can change your mind on things. It also will give you an extremely clear example of what DEVIANCE IS because GOD KNOW SOCIETY DOESN'T KNOW(in general)

Tl;dr: Wow, that's pretty messed up but you got to learn to deal with the jerks it isn't worth getting upset about it's been happening since the dawn of time.

EDIT: Also, we're talking about YOUTUBE here. That site has literally the worst comments to ever exist on the internet. Why? No one knows. There are plenty other places they could be that horrid, but Youtube seems to be the go to place for really, really bad and sometimes plain seriously stupid comments.

We're talking about a site where someone once commented "THIS SONG IS PHOTOSHOPPED" here...

In response to what Twilight Kyle said: I loved that system. I didn't know about it until halfway through the day but I used it and I actually had people TALK TO ME.

I do agree with you that people are being judgemental when they say that all bronies have autism, but that's where the similarities of our opinions end.

People with the mindset to come to those conclusions shouldn't be worth your time, whether or not they actually mean what they say. If they aren't serious, they're most likely trolling. If you respond, the troll wins. However, if they're not trolling, and they are actually serious about what they say, responding to them is just going to make you look insecure. A better idea would be to let their idiocy speak for itself, and leave them be.

Also here's a rant on autism:

Seriously? What the buck is wrong with people? Joking about autism is horrible! It shouldn't even be a stereotype. Some of you will say "Oh Emerald, just tolerate the haters." This is where I draw the goddamn line though. When someone makes fun of a mental or neurological disorder, it's like making fun of someone's death. Why the hell should I tolerate people tossing around autism like it's your average Brony hater insult? I don't think I should.

Oh, of course. It's finally okay to make fun of every race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, political views, and mental condition, equally. Well, every mental condition except for autism of course. That's now supposed to be a special case, because it was recently discovered by the general public, therefore we're obligated to be sensitive towards that oh-so-sacred subject for the next three years. Just like gay rights since 2010, right? Hell, why don't we have baldness should be our next obligatory sensitive subject?

*sighs theoretically*

When you patronize people who fall under the said categories, you're not treating them equally. You're just patronizing them. To prove a point (in my case at least), I guess it's confession time. I have Asperger's Syndrome. A form of autism. An example of someone making fun of the disorder would be the South Park episode "Ass Burgers".

They made a silly joke about their mannerisms, which got a laugh out of me. Later, it turned out to be a conspiracy the whole time! Apparently, Asperger's syndrome was just a front. In the form of a Matrix parody, they're actually a secret organization of cynics, who are the only ones know the truth about how (supposedly) shitty reality is, and to enter the happy "dream" world, they drink heavily. Their reasoning for why Asperger's is fake went something like "Well of course Asperger's Syndrome isn't real! Why would anyone diagnose someone with 'Ass Burgers'? That's just- That's just mean!"

I thought the episode was pretty funny, and I see no reason to be offended by it. It is just a joke, after all. However, what would get me angry is if someone believed I would (or should) be offended by the episode, just because I have Asperger's Syndrome.

I don't have an obligation to be offended by jokes about Asperger's Syndrome. And neither should you, nor anyone else.

I've gone through my share of mental issues, similar to yours, maybe not quite as severe. A great way I found to not be socially awkward is to have a goal in mind during the day, and focus on your tasks at hand, and greeting someone when they come into view, don't feel you have to be forced to make conversation but small talk helps remove some of that tension that comes with awkward silence.

Oh, and if one more person says I'm using it as a CRUTCH, they will wind up ON CRUTCHES! Does anyone understand how a social disorder works and that saying it's a CRUTCH to that person just makes the whole thing ten times worse?

I'm autistic, and I hate when people use it as an insult. When people say bronies are autistic as an insult, they are insulting me for being a brony and insulting me for being autistic. A lot of people believe autistic people have low intelligence, so they may be calling bronies lowly intelligent. That stereotype about autistic people is not true. A lot of autistic people are highly intelligent. I think people should not use any disorder as an insult. I already have to deal with the poor social skills and the obsessions with things that come with having autism. I don't want to have to deal with people making fun of me, too. Unfortunately, I have to.
