Autistic brony insult?

.....

Recommended Posts

Fluter Sparkle:Who are you directing that to. If it's me, then I would never make a post that long about me personally and then make it as "supporting Autism". I HAVE IT. If not, then I'm confused(see this is when two people with this disorder can start getting confused)

Here are three things I've come to understand about my disorder:

1.I am ALWAYS on the defensive.

2.Being on the defensive, this causes paranoid tendencies, thus creating anxiety.

3.The anxiety spread to stress.

The 3 work as chain reactions. If one goes off or happens, the other two show up like they were invited to a party. Well they aren't welcome and can eat their cake at home!

what? Im being real right now i have asperghers syndrome the only person who ever understood me was my friend who had it too. i didnt know any on had it here i just thought you were supportive of it.

Like I said, aspergers syndrome is very common among bronies, that's why 'autistic' is frequently used as an insult against us.

Oh, and if one more person says I'm using it as a CRUTCH, they will wind up ON CRUTCHES! Does anyone understand how a social disorder works and that saying it's a CRUTCH to that person just makes the whole thing ten times worse?

That's the idea. Don't let it bother you dude, just ignore them and move on.

1.I am ALWAYS on the defensive.

2.Being on the defensive, this causes paranoid tendencies, thus creating anxiety.

3.The anxiety spread to stress.

Try going along with the 'flow' of the conversation rather than being offensive or defensive. Like I said try not to let it bother you, don't think about it so much, try to enjoy yourself. Life's too short to let yourself be bothered by the ignorant insults of assholes.

I'm autistic, and I hate when people use it as an insult. When people say bronies are autistic as an insult, they are insulting me for being a brony and insulting me for being autistic. A lot of people believe autistic people have low intelligence, so they may be calling bronies lowly intelligent. That stereotype about autistic people is not true. A lot of autistic people are highly intelligent. I think people should not use any disorder as an insult. I already have to deal with the poor social skills and the obsessions with things that come with having autism. I don't want to have to deal with people making fun of me, too. Unfortunately, I have to.

I know that one bro. While I may not be very good at math, my vocabulary and way of thinking is a little bit more "sophisticated"(?!) then the every day person. Does this mean I have a huge ego and rub it in people's faces? No, I have Autism >_>...and that's who I am.

That's because you're smart and think about what you're saying before you say it. It's a good trait to have, nothing more annoying than someone with no social filter. I'm sure you know what I mean, these guys that just spout the first thing that pops into their head, and don't know how to have a real conversation.

I don't like it when people use stuff like that as insults, it downright pisses me off. Probably cuz I've got autism, and of course I'm a schizophrenic who angers REAAAAAAAAAALLY quick. I've been taking crap about the way I am since grade school. Teachers, other students, my own mother. All my life I've never made a friend who understood me at all, but then there's this girl I met in WoW a good 4-5 years ago. She gets me. And her bf, my other good friend gets me too. They don't judge me and I like that. But trolls and all that? I do my best to ignore them but its tough, especially when almost every single comment I see is people using autism as an insult. I just don't like it.

Okay, just saying tht using a disorder as an insult is just terrible. My brother is Autistic, as well as several of my cousins. Unfortinately, some people are just ignorant and rude. Using a medical condition as an insult is degrading to the title of the condition, and as an effect, to the people who live with said condition.  This goes with all conditions that are tossed around as insults, not just autism.

yet at the same time I don't generally IN PERSON. Online typing, YES. I have time to look at the words, where as when I talk it comes out and I can't review it and my head doesn't really double check things most  the time before they are said. Same with headsets in games. Sadly my best way of communicating without confusion which is ironic because online it is very hard to be misinterpreted,  so it's like a double edged sword. I'm at my best in what I say but also might not exactly be, how do I put it without making this hypocritical...err..."understood".

As far as I thought, autism was classed as a "social disorder" which clearly a lot of bronies don't have any problem socially, that's not to say it's not different on the internet but I don't hear that being said any other place other than the internet personally.

To put my views on this matter simply, I'd have to say that I guess there must have been someone out there presented on the news, youtube or some other format that gave bronies that reputation.

No. The Autism Spectrum Disorder is vast. It can range from mental disorders to severe and life threatening physical ones.

And it isn't just one person who did that Crimson. I can't even begin to explain this to you fully, I'm kind of getting offended. To me it sounds like you believe there is a "poster child" for this idea.

If anything that spread the idea to people who took it out of context was BRONIES(documentary) where it has like a 3-4 minutes segment on Autism and Bronies. Yes, some Bronies are Autistic, but not ALL OF THEM are. Does that stop anyone who watched it from blowing it out of proportion? E-nope!

I will say it once AGAIN, this time for the tl;dr:

Autism is not an insult.

Einstein and Newton were autistic.

Autism isn't a creative insult, and it's just as bad maybe worse than "gay."

Also, if this happens again on a certain site or server, then I've got a touching story:

Once upon a time, you got banned and I lived happily ever after.

The end.

How are you going to ban people on other sites and such as well?! I'm vastly confused now.

I'm getting out of here before my head explodes.

I've been thinking about this myself. For one thing, there's no proof what-so-ever that most bronies are autistic, and even if they were, what does it matter? Is there something wrong with being autistic? Is there something wrong with autistic people liking something? Is there something wrong with people liking something that autistic people like? I always see it being called out or used as a petty insult and it doesn't make sense. They're basically saying that people with nuerological disorders are somehow inferior to others, which of course, isn't true at all. In fact, there's no reason to even bring up autism because it has nothing to do with the show. So some bronies have autism, fine. So what? I'm sure there are some with other disorders as well. It doesn't matter. The way I see it, these 'haters' who bring it up and use it as insults are no different from elementary school bullies. They are immature, probably young teenagers for the most part, who look for anyone to pick on who doesn't fit their idea of 'normal'. It doesn't have to be bronies, but bronies are an easy target for them since they're easy to find. I believe the autistic insults come from the fact that autism is another easy target. They don't consider autism to be 'normal' and since some bronies (at least according to them) seem to have autism, they use it as a way to say that other bronies aren't 'normal' either.

Of course, we all know that we're not normal anyway. We go against the grain of society. We like something that people say we shouldn't because it's made for little girls, but we watch it anyway. Because of that alone, it shouldn't matter what people say. Yeah, we're different. Some of us have disorders, but that's society in general. It's part of what makes different, unique, and special. We should all love and... tolerate  :P  each other regardless of our differences. Those haters don't get that. They don't care, and that's why their arguments are invalid. People who use those kinds of baseless insults are irrational and there's no point in arguing with them. The best thing to do is just ignore them, report or mark their post as spam if possible and go about your business.

I believe they were saying that using the word 'autistic' as an insult is as bad as using the word 'gay' as an insult. It makes no sense at all because there should be nothing insulting about those words. As for the ban thing, I had to think about that a second myself, but I believe they were saying if they encountered someone using such insults on another site, they could just ignore the hater and watch as they're banned for posting insults.

Or maybe there's nothing wrong with bronies... maybe the show's creators just did something right. The show's elements appeal to such a vast array of people. Men, women, boys and girls of all ages. Maybe it is the message that selflessness and kindness will always be rewarded, that in an ideal world, even when we feel little and threatened, we can still overcome great challenges and powerful adversaries.

Actually, I was using the word "gay" to give an example of another uncreative insult that had a similar use. Saying that "gay" is just as unfunny, uncreative, and not insulting towards me. Also how nobody should be insulted by it either.

For banning, I meant on sites like YouTube where you can report someone for certain actions.

There's a difference between calling someone autistic, and using autistic as a way to describe something.

The 4Chan use of the word "autism" isn't meant to offend people. But with 4Chan, it's more of, "You're offended? Well too bad then."

It sounds harsh, but in reality, it isn't. It's like the N word. It gets tossed around especially on 4chan as a non racist term. I agree with 4chan on the earlier philosophy. If it offends you, then you should probably stay away from it.

Of course, we all know that we're not normal anyway.

When you get right down to it nobody really is although some people are a bit stranger than others but I think life would be very boring if everyone tried to be "normal". I am on the Autism spectrum myself so I know what it is like to be seen as odd, this is really the only major insults trolls use that gets under my skin because it takes such blatant advantage of peoples ignorance. Your average person dosen't know that much about Autism and has all sorts of misconceptions about it, things have improved a great deal but there is still a lot of work to be done and I am not going to let a bunch of immature little twits get in the way of that.

Come back to me when most people have an accurate understanding of what the Autism spectrum actually is and then I might think along those lines. It is true that it is not the "N word" and I don't usually quibble over words taking something so complicated and boiling it down a cheap insult is a dick move. Sure they don't mean it literally but it is still not cool.

Just as a heads up . I have merged your thread with this one, as they both seem to cover the same subject matter of people throwing around 'autism' as some sort of insult (which truly shows the sheer ignorance of some individuals).  In the future, please be sure to make use of the search function to see if your idea for a discussion already exists before creating a new thread.  This tends to keep the forums nice and organized while deterring any possible confusion that multiple threads can cause.

Take care!

I think 4chan made the insult popular, along with other words. The word is used to insult people with a lack of social skills. Here's a quote from the KnowYourMeme page. "On the internet, “autism” has gained usage as a label and insult used in generalization, aimed at mocking people by claiming they suffer from a mental disease or social disorder. Common targets for these claims commonly involve specific online communities or fandoms. (See also: Cancer & The -fag Suffix)"

Look what a person did to an MLP mural!  :okiedokielokie:

Despite having Autism myself, I can't really think of much else to say other than people who use "Autistic" as an insult are pretty much uneducated about the topic and are ignorant. Same opinion I have towards people who just insult Bronies in general. Best you can really do to these types of people who hate and generalize anyone who is Autistic, Brony or both is just ignore them and forget about them. Believe me, I've tried to reason with these ignorant pieces of shit that call themselves people, but had no success.

I frequent 4chan and it is used an insult there. It's used as an insult on YouTube, on reddit and everywhere else.

It's the latest trend of an insult like 'fag' was for many many years. It's bait so don't get involved because it's designed

to target people who are actually autistic especially if they are bronies the two most hated things on the internet.

Don't judge a book by its cover. You will truly understand it if you're just willing to read it.
