I know everypony plays a console made my Microsoft and Sony, or playing online on PC with Steam or Origin so I decided to talk about this topic that really irritates me because people arguing over a profession that makes millions of dollars every year from console and game sales. This could either be a good thing for society or a bad one, so everypony say what you want to say. :Dpost-11209-0-73680400-1356986704_thumb.png

You think its annoying to argue whats best, yet you create a thread just so people can argue about just that?

Odd.

PC is the ultimate gaming way.

Consoles is holding technology back. I still believe that my PC is stronger than the WiiU.

The only reason to get a console is if the console have any good exclusives. And as far as i know, only Nintendo have a good amount of good excusives.

I frickin' love PC. Every part is interchangeable, unlike the parts in a console which can't be updated until a new system comes out... and there are just some games that look a hell of a lot better on my PC than from what I've seen on a PS3 or Xbox. Steam also throws out a lot of special deals on games, and it was cheaper for me to build my PC than to buy the highest end console (by that, I mean it cost me less to build my PC than to buy an Xbox or PS3 with the highest capacity Hard Drive) and the mouse allows for more precision for shooters and RTS games, but I may be wrong since I know a lot of people that prefer a controller/gamepad over the mouse. :3

PC is the best for gaming, get a good one and it will /always/ have better graphics then consoles, unless it's a crappy port. Plus we have steam; screw moving, everything is online.

Not to mention, modding, if you have a PC game, it's quite easy to mod it, if you have a console game, not so much. Plus, consoles update so much, but you can use the same PC for quite a long time. Which is nice.

On another note, I don't understand making a game for console before PC. PC is far better, and has more selling opportunity because Steam. Plus, it's less likely to get sold used, which is nice for the makers.

Well I see your points on PC being a good system (which it is) but what about the N64 (or 64 ultra depending on what year you got it)

I want to see you drop your PC down some stairs and it still work afterwards, the N64 would still run.

Here's my response to people that love the Wii :

What is wrong with people that love the Wii? It has plenty of games that are perfectly enjoyable, even for someone like me that does not like motion controls at all. It may not have the greatest graphics ever, but who cares? I'd rather play an eight bit game that is fun than a Playstation10 game that plays like crap. :V

As an aside, I'm a PC gamer first and foremost - though I do own every major console dating back to the NES with the exception of the Sega Saturn and WiiU (for now... I'll have one at some point)

That's more or less how I go about it, I do gaming on PC and Xbox only but I do have tons of the old ones.  Though maybe the commodor should be the best, who doesn't love text adventures like zork?

I'm not saying that there is something wrong with people that love the Wii. I have no issue with it, not saying its a bad console. Just putting my opinion in video form. Sorry c:

I'd definitely say that PC has the biggest advantage with modding, not to mention the famous Steam store being one of the best downloadable distributors for games on PC in general

Although I like all consoles honestly. The Wii itself is a fond favorite due to me being a long time Nintendo fan, and yes the Wii U is also my current favorite of this generation due to its unique design and great possibilities in multiplayer...plus smash bros and other favorite Nintendo franchises of mine <3

I do love the PS3 since I grew up with PS1 with friends all the time at a young age even though we had an N64.

I don't have 360 and I do wish to acquire one, but I never cared for the 360 in all honesty. I do love the original Xbox though, don't know why though

I grew up with the PS1, so I could relate to any Playstation fans that grew up with the 1st Playstation console made by Sony. So good show, Jolly good show :D

The advantage that consoles have over PC is also the disadvantage: they hold technology back. You can spend $300-400 on a console and play most of the new games for the next 5-7 years with at most a hard drive upgrade. $300-400 PCs... No such luck, and to get even CURRENT games on a PC of that price you'll need to do a good deal of bargain hunting, research, and have the required knowledge to build it yourself.

Not saying consoles are better, they are seriously lacking on a great many levels, but they do have a reason to exist and I see nothing wrong with the people that prefer them.

EDIT: after looking over a few replies again, I figured I should mention this: I am mostly a PC gamer, other than portable systems, but I never mod my games.

What we have going now is not a war, IMO. It's competition, but nothing like the Nintendo/Sega days. The trouble with consoles now, as Vicke sort of pointed out, is that there are almost no exclusives anymore. Believe it or not, in the late 80s and early 90s, not everybody had a computer, and gaming on PC had its drawbacks. As portability and convenience became more important, companies like Atari went in another direction with systems you could just hook up to the TV. Playing on TV had advantages over playing on a computer: a larger screen, easier control and stuff like that. And you didn't have to worry about Dad booting you off the Apple II all the time. ^_^

Exclusive titles came along to encourage system sales, and that's where the competition really started as Atari gained rivals in the Intellivision and ColecoVision. In the 8 and 16-bit days, two or three rival systems having the same game didn't happen all the time, and when it happened it was exciting. Gamers rushed to compare the different versions and argued over their merits. The replacement of blood with "flying sweat" in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat, the Genesis version of Aladdin having a sword...that stuff was a big deal. Titles that got ported to the PC from the console/s and vice versa were even less common.

Now, everything's the same. The consoles are basically less advanced PCs with controllers. Most of the big titles are playable on any system. The war has become a mere debate, at least among gamers themselves, and it's limited to the technical side of things (the Wii's less flashy graphics, the RROD, etc.) or the systems' online features. Some people say that PC was always where the real gaming action was, but I don't think so. Without inspiration from the consoles, PC gaming wouldn't be where it is today.

PC gaming is the only way to game. I will now attempt to list the infinite ways PC gaming is better than your puny consoles.

Let's begin, shall we:

-Largest selection of games

-Easy to mod

-If you're a cheater or modder, most include developer consoles

-Most diverse controls

-Usually best graphics

-Most compatibility

-Most portability

And countless other reasons.

im a console person and a PC person. I like to play games on the PC when i know that they did not mod anything or hack anything that i am wanting to play, for instance, i  play Skyrim on the PC, let my old roommate play the game and come back to it to find that he modded the game so that he could jump off the highest point in the game and not even have the life bar go down a single nano-meter. I know that this risk is still big on the console but there are some games that i just can not play with a mouse and the arrow keys, like Skyrim again for example on the PC. I use the Wired Xbox controller to be able to play the game, and call of duty will not allow me to use the controller so i play it on the console, but mainly stick to Battle Field 3 being that it is more realistic than call of duty. So yea, i go both ways between PC and Console and i am a Xbox Person when it comes to consoles. Thank you for your time

As my brother once said, and I do believe him, "An Xbox [or PS3] is like a computer. A very, very weak computer."

To avoid text walls I will just list some Pro's and Cons of each.

PC Pros

-Enthusiast level

-Will never get outdated by a "newer console"

-If your hardware gets outdated, you can easily swap it with some newer parts. Except if you have a laptop

-Has beautiful graphics

-Most people will tell you that playing with a keyboard and mouse is a lot better than playing with a controller

-Has some great titles (Starcraft II, Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Chivalry, just to name a few)

-Building PCs is an enjoyable and rewarding hobby

-Mods for games

PC Cons

-Expensive, low-range PC's cost 500-700 dollars, mid-range 700-1000, high-range 1000-2000.

And that's it for the Cons. Honestly.

-Easy to mod

-If you're a cheater or modder, most include developer consoles

Oh my god, is modding great! It's even why my profile name is what it is. Something that consoles would have to jump through hoops of fire to get I think.
