I don't like it when Rarity's detractors label her as merely "materialistic" and "vain." She's classy! Class is about striving to be an elevated person. It's nothing to do with snootiness and snobbishness. A person with class seeks to better themselves, by thought, appearance, and taste, while also striving to better others around them. Why do you think she is a paragon of Generosity?

 

Contrast her with Diamond Tiara. They are both social-status conscious, but one uses her station to help others while the other uses it to put others down.

You are SO right with this one. Thats the beautiful thing with Rares, she does not hoard beauty, she shares it. She wants to be as beautiful as possible, but she wants the same for others. (I mean clearly the rest of Equestria can never be as gorgeous as she is, but that is not her fault, isn't it?) For example: Her first reaction to Twis ruined mane in the very first episode was not to mock her, like Diamond Tiara would have done, but to help her. If she was that alpha-bitch that many see in her, would she not have seen Twi as competition? She did not, she only saw a pony in need of help, and she restored Twis mane without payment.

 

What i also often see is that many people seem to see generosity only as giving expensive gifts away, and completely ignore Raritys self-sacrifices of her own well-being, or her career. Which is something that is worth way, WAY more than physical gifts. (Which Rares also gives plenty of.)

I blame todays materialistic society, many people are so focused on wealth today that they fail to see that other gifts are much more important and generous... If you sacrifice your time, your wellbeing or your chance of advancement in your career it is SO much more worth than just a new 3D TV, or something like that.

But Rarity understands, and her fans understand.

Et tu Classy? Classy is certainly a state of mind personified in mannerism expressed through being a gentleman/lady and a scholar. Sytle and elegance denote true class and enjoyment of refined things branching from food, music, art, literature, to even sporting.

Diamond tiara is not classy. She is not a lady nor does she seek to enjoy refinement. Idle gossip and falsehoods are unbecoming of those with who wish to be considered "Classy." Rarity on the other hand, in all things excentuates the definition of class and refinement. Rarity doesn't only give away expensive gifts, her greatest gift is her time. She made dresses for all of her friends, a significant time sink, and then again vowed to make Twilights birthday ensamble...granted it was a learning lesson for her in that one getting caught up in being too classy.

Rarity. Elegance. Grace. A symbol of class.

I didn't see it, but I pestered quite a few people about how Rarity was in it There seemed to be a bit of a rift between her and AJ, but considering how great AJ fans usually are, they'll forgive her/us just as we'll forgive them/AJ It was back and forth, from what I can tell

As usual, I'm running around like a headless chicken in fear of what's going to happen to Rarity, and I'm scared I'm missing out on some Rarity hate for this episode :(
