Just a thought. Does Rarity remind you of Muffy Crosswire from Arthur? They're both into fashion and upper class culture.

Only in that sense. Muffy tends to be a bit more snobbish and spoiled. Then again, she is the token rich kid, so she also has a lot to learn. Rarity is a far more complex character and aside from her interest in fashion, we also know that she has a good, generous heart with a bit of a dramatic side. She wants her talent to be recognised and wants to get big with her designs, but wants to do so with hard work and her own merits, Muffy, on the other hand, has exhibited wanting to be famous just for the sake of it with no real effort.

 

But, like I said, Muffy is just a kid and her sense of reality isn't quite developed fully yet. I mean, I can't tell you how many dumb things I believed when I was a kid.

I can't believe I didn't realize this but I've already reached 1000 posts here.

Wrong. With eyelashes or without him, Rarity (Twily too and maybe Sunset Shimmer) have almond-shaped eyes. When i was some episodes wached, i tought that unicorns have almond shaped eyes and pegasi and earth ponies have round eyes (and that silmmer and higher and rare race (Tia, Luna, Cadence and Fleur de Lis) have those sad inner eyecorners. Later i was surprised, when i found that Lyra, Amethyst and other unicorns have too round eyes. Almond shaped eyes are rare, i dont know any other unicorns, who have same eyeshapes like Rarity and Twilight.

What people don't understand about the wildly wonderful Rarity is that she is actually probably smarter than even Twilight. Twilight pretty much schooled herself then went to a magic school, yeah, whatever. But I think that it is probable that Rarity is skilled at maths and geometry (due to her dressmaking practice) and she is very well spoken, so I think she's probably a good linguist too. While Twilight is Royalty, Rarity acts as if she were Royalty.

Watched Sisterhooves Social again recently.  Just meeting her parents informs everything about what her childhood was like and why she's so awesome.  

 

None of the success she has was given to her.  She didn't learn elegance and style from her family, she taught herself.  It seems that she didn't grow up particularly rich or high class either- a true lady and shining star of fashion born to a couple of yokels.  Her refinement, her poise, even her accent are all a result of her striving to become the pony she always wanted to be.  Her goal oriented and ambitious quality is something that I've always found appealing, even though some may see it as a flaw.  

 

But at the same time,  being raised middle class in a place like Ponyville, she never completely abandoned her roots.  Rather than reject her home, she embraces it, as a productive member of local businesses.  Instead, she'd rather bring class and culture *to* Ponyville, as we saw in Simple Ways.  I mean, she could have opened a dress shop anywhere, but she chose her hometown.
