poniesforfun 716 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 (edited) Now for the Twilicorn, they will be able to sell new products. But Equestrian Girls? All I can tell is that they're doing this for TV ratings. Knowing Hasbro they need to sell toys, blankets and other stuff. By attracting an older audience of girls how are they going to sell any of that stuff to them? I doubt teenage girls would buy a bedsheet of MLP or a pony playset. They would be buying boy band songs or something. If anything Bronies should boycott Equestrian Girls. Gone for good 1,593 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 I dunno, as extremely gay as this sounds I kind of like the art style they have on Equestria Girls. I don't know what it is, but there's something pretty about it. That being said, the products will probably look extremely mortifying much like most of the pony toys currently look like. ...Being the sad nerd I am I will probably buy them all anyway. 8 Just editing my signature to say that my behavior on here was cringe. PoisonClaw 8,164 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 I'm pretty sure boycotting a show that hasn't even aired yet might be a pretty drastic and unwise response... Though on the topic of toys, from the one image I have to go on it seems to vaguely resemble the style of a show called "Monster High", which was kinda like Barbie aimed at teenagers from what I've been able to gather. I'm pretty sure Equestrian Girls would go a similar route, with pose-able dolls with possible change of outfits and various marked products like backpacks for example. 4 MLPForums "Self-Proclaimed" Kamen Rider NutNow, count up your sins!I do Traditional commissions, by the way! Akihiro 90 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 (edited) (about the boycott thing)This show leaves us in an extremely uncomfortable position, because if we blame it for being only there to sell more toys, we should blame MLP as well. But I think the creation process is drastically different from MLP:FiM I can't possibly approve a cheap spin-off with characters forcefully ripped-off from another universe. So yeah, for the sake of Celestia, I wouldn't watch it. (I tried Littlest Pet Shop, but I wouldn't even try this one) Then, back on the topic, I think it will be pretty much what PoisonClaw said. Orablanco Account 3,707 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 I know that MLP is da shiz right now, and I'm sure Hasbro wants to cash in all this (they're a corporation, so I don't blame them), but is humanized ponies really the way to go? Girls like ponies, so make more ponies. It's basic physics, guys. On that note, are the dolls going to be like that image where they all have the same skin tones as their equine counterparts? It looks weird and quite frankly, it's unappealing. Rarity and Rainbow Dash look like zombies. Monster High can get away with it, but that's only because the characters actually are zombies and junk. Rainbow Dash 1,472 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 i think this equestrian girls thing will produce some of the lamest merchandise. Not because of the shows premise but becasue of the style. Most likely they will mass produce alot of stupid dolls and whatnot. 1 R.I.P. Antismurf9001 1,271 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 I guess if they want this for older girls, then they can just stamp their characters on things older girls might buy, like maybe a CD, or school supplies. Then again, I have no idea if that actually makes sense... Would teenage girls buy school supplies with EG stamped on it? I have no idea. himanuts 165 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 What type of merch you ask? Stuff like this... http://www.yaplakal.com/uploads/post-3-13583281737958.jpg If I recall, Hasbro lost the rights to the Bratz doll line a few years ago. And before that they haven't been very successful in the "barbie-type" doll department. Loosing Bratz, and seeing how well Mattel is doing with both the Barbie and Monster High doll lines, they want a piece of that cake. I can see some appeal in this idea. If they'd bothered to produce something as detailed as the Monster High dolls it would probably be worthwhile. (My step niece showed me a Frankie Stein the other day and I was really surprised to see it was better than I thought! Good job Mattel.) Heck, being the toy freak I am, I'd probably jump in. But so far I don't see much promise. The designs are really un-inspired (Monster High isn't that great in that department either. But there are exceptions and the characters get different releases with different looks to choose from.) And then there's the terrible quality of Hasbro's girls toys. It's been over two years now and we're still fighting to get a fair scale release of figures that resemble the characters from the show! So in order for this toyline to be successful, Hasbro has to do two things... -Work on those designs. (IMO atleast, Rarity is the only one that looks worthwhile) With so much inspiration to draw from the fandom, why they've settled for something so lackluster is beyond me. -Stop being lazy with your toy quality. Put more effort into sculpts, accesories and brushable hair styles that resemble the onscreen designs!

The show isn't going to be aimed at eighteen and nineteen year old girls. It's going for ten-twelve or so. I'm sure there will be the typical character labeled shampoos and conditioners. Maybe even fun things like lip-gloss and perfumes. There will be back-packs, school supplies and clothing. Maybe even video games and board games. The possibilities are endless. Since Bronies ARE NOT the intended audience, a boycott would be pretty foolish, and prove absolutely nothing at all. Hasbro doesn't expect the adult male following of MLP:FIM to watch it! Why do so many people seem to be of the mind-set... "Oh, I know I won't like "Equestria Girls", even though I never watched a second of it. I just know that Evil Hasbro had better not broadcast it and RUIN EVERYTHING!" Calm down Bronies, and watch something else! Season four will have nothing to do with Equestria Girls. Pinkazoid 3,493 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 Boycott? FOR WHAT? It's a good idea, I'm a teenage girl, I'd buy all the pony stuff if I could xD (then again, I'm weird) besides, most bronies will make up for what the stereotypical teen doesn't buy, if the show is good that is. I got hopes for it too, it might not be as good as MLP, but there's not much to lose. 2 :
Zygen 6,066 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 I feel like they're going to make just the ponies as humans into toys and maybe have style able hair like they do for the pony toys. To be honest though i don't know many teenage girls who still are that interested in that stuff, so unless they're bronies I highly doubt they'd be that interested in buying them, but I'm not a girl so what do I know . It might be terrible, I don't really care to much seeing as I don't buy any of the products really because I'm a closet brony and all that stuff . Also I don't think we should imidately boycott the show, I'd give it a chance, we gave MLP a chance, so I'd say we might as well give Equestria girls a chance, besides if its any good it may air during the wait for S4 and give us something to watch in between . I think its way to early to judge the show, who knows how it'll be, I plan on giving it a chance like I did MLP and even Little pet shop(Which I mostly don't watch because I'm busy with MLP and don't feel like trying to get to involved with another show, but yeah .) I plan on trying the show, if it sucks then I'll just wait for MLP to air again, if its actually good then that means I'll get something to soften my wait for S4. Overall I'm not really worried if Equestria girls is any good or not, if it is I'll watch it, if it isn't I'll not watch it, it won't affect me if I don't watch it, and I doubt it'll affect FIM really any. And I don't really care about the products at all like I said, they may suck who knows ;P. Maybe they won't. 2 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Tiina Brown 67 February 18, 2013 Share February 18, 2013 (edited) For starters, i'll see the show if possible, to give it benefit of the doubt. But. * I do NOT like their currently assumed designs, it is the same extreme-thin bodies that ranges on either anorectic or a body-shape very few people have naturally. I feel at least Pinkie, if keeping true to her character, should be ... well, rounded. * I do wonder which ones is, or will be, responsible for things like storyline and such, and how much free reign they will get, because what they do, is what will make or break that franchise, rather than it using the characters from FiM, or the odd coloration or the "catering to an older demographic". * And yes, i might share himanuts' concern for the toy quality ... Also: It should be obvious that this is an attempt of Hasbro to compete with Mattel's Barbie- and Monster High Dolls. However, their approach of using a school is both good and bad. Good: It do fit with the Mane 6 - Characters Bad: They may seem like copying that part from Monster High. I think the best approach would be to actually drag the assumed copying in a direction more fitting: Harry Potter .... and or "Xaviers school of gifted youngsters" (as someone in a different thread suggested to explain the character's odd skin colours ... ), or why not mixing both? Or, for the 6, they could even go the "Magical Girl" route, as Lauren intended for the Mane 6 originally. What i do wonder about also, is the rest of the cast ... Will "Celestia" be the headmaster? Will DeLancie show up as a weird guest lecturer? Will CMC show up, and if so, how? And, of course, will Derpy, whatever her name will be, show up, and how will that thing get treated? Pinkie Pie 3 U 42 February 25, 2013 Share February 25, 2013 I'm a male fan of the show, and I know they won't be making this upcoming equestrian girl series for the male fan ( I would be deluded to think so X D). It is specifically targeting from as much as I can tell from Equestria Daily, Derpy Hooves News, and rumors around the internet to the older female fan, I guess teenagers. Now I know, all you girls, probably love the show the same way I do the awesome art and especially the dialoge. Heck, I'm a guy and my all time favorite episodes are "SisterHooves Social" and "Look Before You Sleep" which even my sisters find too girly. Why? Well, it goes back to why I love the show in the first place the cute, witty dialoge and ponies doing cute things. So granted this new IP (intellectual property) is geared towards the older female fans, I just have one request from you all. If you are ever given the chance from Hasbro to voice your opinion on how the show should progress please suggest they keep the "boyfriend stuff" on the downlow. Crushes are fine, I even wanted a dating episode on MLP:FIM, but if there is just to way to much of it then I won't like it as much.

Powderpuff 390 February 26, 2013 Share February 26, 2013 (edited) I definitely agree with those that think they'll be a whole bunch a fashion dolls. If you can't tell by my avatar, I am a HUGE Monster High fan I'm crazy about those silly-looking things. And Monster High is making big, big bucks right now. Twilight made horror story-esque/monster-like characters popular with the tween market, and Monster High cashed in on that. Now they've made a huge, huge impact in the playline fashion doll market, and it would be a huge loss of money for other companies not to take notice. MGA responded with the Bratzillas and Novi Stars, and there's plenty of smaller companies coming out with similar toys that range from vaguely-inspired-by to totaly ripoffs. Non-human humanoid dolls are totally in right now, and Hasbro wants to capitalize on that - lure in the girls who buy Monster Highs with human-ish versions of their favorite My Little Pony characters that would look great with their Monster gang. I personally am excited by this, I would love to have a Rarity doll to chill with my Monsters lol. But what I think what will be really, really important, is the quality. Monster High isn't only successful right now cause it's cashing in on the horror-theme trend in media, but they're leaving a lasting impression because they have really, really good quality, and Mattel is taking risks. Especially for something as accessible as a $20 playline toy. Multiple varied points of articulation, a completely unique facemold for each character and little quirks that emphasize their Monster-y roots or cultural origins (Spectra Vondergeist, the ghost, has see-through lower limbs; Frankie Stein has a large forehead, stitching patterns throughout her head and bolts on her neck, Rochelle Goyle the gargoyle has skin that's grey and flecked like stone, etc.). They are incredibly creative and quirky with great attention to detail. This is what Hasbro has been absolutely sucking at with their ponies recently. There were hundreds of different pony poses in G1, and plenty in G3! Why do we still only have two basic pony poses: one standing stock-still, and one with a raised hoof? And why is almost every brushable released now just another one of the main six? Blind bags are recolors of the same five characters (let's not even mention the hilarious absurdity of Fluttershy not getting her own mold until this year!). Mattel is making big bucks off Monster High right now, because they are taking huge risks with it. Just check out the MH doll Jinafire Long and tell me that's not one heck of a departure for a $20 fashion doll. But right now with ponies, Hasbro is alllll about playing it safe. If they don't take risks with this, this new line will be uninspired, dull, and won't do very well. I just bought a Bratzillas doll a few days ago because their inset glass eyes look gorgeous, but I was totally put off by the quality. Stiff, awkward joints and most definitely the worst quality doll hair I've ever seen. And, they're just uninspired. Exactly what you'd expect of a shallow fashion doll with sexual undertones, none of those tiny clever little quirks that Monster High has. Not much or creativity behind it. Looking at how Hasbro's been handling their pony toys, I really wouldn't be surprised if the Equestria Girls line will be like this. himanuts, on 18 Feb 2013 - 17:45, said: If I recall, Hasbro lost the rights to the Bratz doll line a few years ago. Loosing Bratz, and seeing how well Mattel is doing with both the Barbie and Monster High doll lines, they want a piece of that cake. I don't believe Hasbro ever owned the rights to Bratz? I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that Bratz had always belonged to MGA. There was a conflict between Mattel and MGA over the Bratz line though, but not Hasbro. I could be wrong though, and I apologize if I am! And I think the boycotting thing is just a bit silly. You can simply just not watch it and not pay attention to it if you don't like it. Bronies has been making Hasbro a pretty nice profit, but I don't think they have as much buying power as some bronies may like to think. And like it's been said, this is meant for young and tween girls, not bronies! Boycotting something that isn't even meant for you is pointless and rude - this implies you want to negatively impact the sales of this line, which you could easily ignore because it's not meant for you. Raising a big stink and trying to get it to fail would only hurt those that may actually like it - little girls, the ones that it's actually meant for. Just ignore it and move on Edited February 26, 2013 by Powderpuff
Veylon 255 February 26, 2013 Share February 26, 2013 Basically, as was said above, Hasbro wants Bratz dolls and this looks like a way to get them. Everything about Equestria Girls is incredibly vague, but this seems obvious at least. As for the show itself, we know pretty much nothing. Mounds and mounds of rumor-mongering over one picture (that may or may not be legit), yes, but we really have no facts. We don't know what the show's about, and without knowing that it's very hard to say anything of substance. We'll just have to wait until Hasbro makes a big press release and starts teasing the show. Jammo 986 February 26, 2013 Share February 26, 2013 I actually have high hopes for this. Yeah I said it. Hasbro isn't stupid. They know bronies are watching. They won't make it horrendous. At worst I see it as a below FiM standard. The Mane 6 characters are so strong, there's a LOT that can be done in a school setting and be entertaining. Internet boycotts are juvenile anyways. Remember all the people "boycotting" Left 4 Dead 2 based on petty principles? Then the game came out, was great and everyone looks like idiots? People jump to throw the word "boycot" out so liberally without understand how boycotts work, why they rarely leave any impact on anything and why not even giving a show a chance to make some kind of statement is well.. Kind of self-riteous. No offence.

Fhaolan 4,484 March 23, 2013 Share March 23, 2013 The timing of this is a little weird.
