(Zygen's) OC Drawing of a night sky.... AT NIGHT!

Hey y'all its a bit late(Then again i normally end up posting drawings at night anyways) and I just randomly drew this drawing for no real reason other then because I felt like doing it . It wasn't like a big plan, it took me about 2 hoursish to finish the whole thing, I spent a good bit of time adding little details to the background(I even added a little something in the background that will take some time to see if you wanna look for it  ) But the actual OC drawing is really just a pretty normal pose, nothing impressive, but its a good chance for me to smooth out proportions and little details I guess. I'm planning to do a bit more difficult poses and stuff instead of the regular one because well its one I've used a good bit, so I think its time to expand a bit and get some skill drawing other poses.

 

I also didn't use really much reference but I used the same picture in my profile pic(Atleast when posting this) and even then I hardly used it since I've drawn my OC a good couple times now.

 

So without further ado, here's my drawing

As always this is done in GIMP with my mouse(m705 logictech .) and yeah. I will say that most of the lighting stuff is from GIMP, so I didn't actually draw that.(You think I would use a program and not abuse it a little? hehehe, you are sadly mistakened .)

 

So tell me watcha think about it! Any and all critique is appreciated and accepted!

 

ALSO if you haven't noticed I used a different cutie mark, the normal one is in my profile pic(The tied 8th notes) and the one I did this time is on my OC, I might make an actual offical thread for this or something, but I'd like to see if I can atleast get some opinions on it here if not decide here which one looks better, or maybe even critique to edit about it. So tell me which you like more.

 

Another thing while I'm at it, Do you like the Black coloring on the hooves or not? I personally think it looks good because my OC kinda feels strange without it, Idk why . But I want a few other opinions while I'm asking questions.

 

AND FINALLY. If you may since I haven't decided yet should I make this OC just my ponysona or into a actual OC?(I'll probably still base him off me since he is already kinda based off me anyways.) Just wondering since I kinda am unsure what I should do about that .

 

You don't have to answer those 3 questions, but it would be appreciated.

Is the special thing in the background the constellation that matches it's cutie mark?

(By the way, does your OC have a name?)

 

I think that both cutie marks look really good, but the original is less crowded on the flank. If you made a more condensed version of the newer one it would probably work just as well. 

 

It would definitely look weird without the black coloring since you've always had it (as far as I know). My vote is that you keep it. 

 

Since you've already incorporated so much of yourself into this OC you might as well make it your ponysona! Sounds like a good idea to me....

 

Once again, you've really improved in your artwork and I think a lot of that comes from your attention to detail! Glad to see you've kept up the drawing, even if it's just small projects. Hopefully I'll have some of my art uploaded before Friday!

Yay Zygen, more art from you!

 

Honestly, the fact that you're doing this in GIMP and with a mouse no doubt, is nothing short of amazing. I can understand doing vector with a mouse because I've done it myself before, but raster art with a mouse is probably the most challenging of combinations one can get in terms of art styles. (One day I gotta ask Firebolt to show me just how she pulls off clean mouse lines in SAI )

 

To tell you the truth, my OC had exposed hooves when I first created him, and they were grey in colour. But after a while as I drew him more I eventually covered up the hooves and got used to it. To the point where now, I never draw him with his hooves exposed at all It's really up to you though, I mean, it's his choice of personal grooming anyway

 

You know, I'm having the same issue as you right now;   I've always wondered whether to make Flashing LED an OC, or a ponysona. FL's background and character is based off me, and I like talking through him, so I guess that would make him my ponysona, but at the same time, I want to have some creative freedom with FL to make him more interesting, so in that respect he's more like an OC. I don't think I'll ever make a clear distinction though, so far I've just always been careful to refer to him as both a ponysona *and* an OC

No its not that obvious, but I'll tell you its in the sky, its going to be actually almost impossible to see because its very faded into something. I'm just curious if anyone can see it still though. I might say it later if nopony guesses it or something.

 

And no he doesn't have a name, since I really haven't decided officially on if hes an OC or a Ponysona, I'm leaning towards a Ponysona really though(Do ponysona's normally have names anyways?)

 

And yeah the cutie marks a bit crowded, I did it a bit bigger then normal I think, I might try it once or twice more shrunk down a bit and see what happens, if I can't shrink it enough to make it still look good but not to crowded I'll probably just go with the normal one.

 

I've more or less had it for the whole time I've had my OC, but I've been a bit inconsistent as whether I draw it or not, I have several times I've drawn my OC without it and several times with it, so its just made me start to think, however I think the black is also a nice contrast to the green and the other bright colors, so I think I'm liking it personally, the hoofs feel kinda empty without it to.

 

I'm thinking ponysona to, I mean even if I did make a backstory and stuff it would more or less be based off me, and it wouldn't really be much different I guess. Probably going to go with a Ponysona then, not to say I won't make another OC sometime If I feel like it or something.

 

And thank you. I wouldn't say I'm super terribly concerned to detail, I mean if I was i'd probably have spent much longer and made this some crazy high quality something, but then again I guess I spent a good bit on detail for the style this is. Honestly I'm perfectionist enough to spend a long time until my frustration gets the better of me basically.

Haha, thanks dude, It just took some getting use to, it has its ocational problems still, but it also has some advantages I guess(Or atleast the programs do, not really the mouse.) and I've still got a long ways to go. Firebolt does an amazing job also, hes a million times better then I am, and I'm pretty sure he uses a mouse to, he just uses SAI and I use GIMP so yeah.

 

I had thought about doing the path tool to draw stuff with, but honestly thats kinda boring and confusing to learn anyways, so I just use the freedraw mouse style, mostly because theres not much style in the Path tool anyways.(Not to mention it takes a long time to learn and stuff.)

 

I think i'm gonna stick with it personally, I mean it feels like its missing something without it, and the black has a nice contrast to all the brighter green and stuff around it, and it makes the hoofs feel less empty I guess.

 

Idk I'm leaning towards ponysona(Maybe because i'm to lazy to write a backstory based off myself or anything.) hes got alot of things in him I planned for being him like me, so I figure that him being a ponysona would make sense, and when I first made him that was originally the idea.

Yeah its in the moon, you got that part right . Its very very faded into the moon, so you'll probably never see it to be honest.

And I'm glad to hear , I'm looking forward to seeing it .

that I drew a (Really badly drawn) version of the mare in the moon like in E1 .

 

It looks really bad honest, and its like faded to be very light so yeah .

Yeah Its quite hard to see really. Honestly alot of the reason I made it fade in so much is because the drawing I did of it looked so crappy at first XD. I couldn't get it right for whatever reason. so i decided it would make a perfect easter egg .

Really the only thing that sticks out here as a problem to me is his head. It should be a bit more circular. Also, there shouldn't be a black outline around one eye, but not the other. It makes the right eye stick out kind've awkwardly.

 

I did a little mock-up here to show you what I'm talking about.

 

 

Other than that, I dig! The body shape is really great, especially the back legs. Nice work!
