My point, Libby, is that the MMO, as a genre, is wider than what you're limiting it to. And it ought to be opened up more.

Now, granted, I've only played a couple of MMOs. I played Everquest for a few months back in 2006(and then was charged...repeatedly...for time when I wasn't playing the game and never got the money back because Sony are money grubbers who refuse to work with customers at all) and I also played Star Trek Online back when it first came out. Two very different kinds of games...they had some similar concepts but that was about it.

I don't think it's dead. I think it just needs some new revitilization.

It's not about what CAN be done, it's about what is BEING done.

I very much doubt Bethesda even tries to innovate.

TES is their money cow, they fuck up the MMO, people will remember that.

WoW clone will sell enough to make up for the costs.

MMO has potential, but potential will never be realized if there is no innovation.

MMO's are very expensive to develop, not to say maintain.

Bad release and it's millions of dollars down the drain, Bethesda is responsible to investors.

See above.

Res won't work. Not unless the Major Players take a proverbial leap of faith.

They can't take that with investor capital if there is a surefire alternative.

Goddammit, more video game arguments.

that piece of shit? i left it months ago. this thread is way better to be at, in that regard.

Well damn.

I didn't think it was a piece of shit, it's just that I had trouble keeping up with the conversation (and sometimes I just got ignored). 'Tis the way with chatrooms, though. I'll probably just stay here.

Bad release seems to be a trending thing with recent big name MMOs. Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 were both plagued with horrible releases (Diablo 3 moreso than the other). Diablo III is an endless grindfest ruined by an auction house that takes away from the game experience. While Guild Wars 2 is a grind for aesthetics.

MMOs aren't about innovating. Like Libby said, why do something new when the time-tested, same-old-same-old crap rakes in dollars?

MMOs aim to create a system where the player gets hooked on grinding, and pays for monthly bills, expansions and/or cash shop items to fuel that grinding, watch that number go up. Innovation might interfere with that formula MMOs have set up now, where the player gets addicted to the feeling of success they get when they see a number go up.

I used to have a 0.8 brohoof/post ratio, now I have more than 300 brohoofs than I do posts.

Hey, I'm not the only one, you know Posted Image

You got Haven and everyone else here

Weyland is a strange man with aversion to negative ratios.

Being positive is good! Posted Image

I know, but you're one of the 3 (?) major contributors. Couldn't have done it without you.

Unless you are an electron.

I see what you did there.

Nay, Electron who is being positive in its live would stay negatively charged. It's his job after all

Hm, but if it's the Orks who are being positive, better start evacuating the planet Posted Image

Kinda hard to list everyone who contributed in this thread, but I'm pretty sure there are more than three

No. Do it more, we could definitely use more Viscra-esqueness in this thread.

Tis funny.

Positive about that?

Okay, now you're going too far with this.

@, It's alright, I understand how contagious it is.

But of course, you of all people would know.
