You can learn chords 'and other shit' all day and it would help you make anything.  You have to have the right software and equipment and know how to use them correctly.  Then, you need to use that knowledge to create something entirely new and original (or as close as you can get). 

Music production far exceeds 'learning chords and other shit'.
