mega thread Unpopular Music Related Opinions

Recommended Posts

Unpopular, eh? I believe with me, too? Let's start with something common and easy then.

Β

- If I had to erase one genre, I'd be forced to choose between Metal or Rap.

- Pop genre is awesome.

- Classical music does not deserve the praise it gets anymore.

- Latin music deserves much more attention.

- Nickelback is actually mighty fine.

- Pitbull isn't worth a broken cent.

- Linkin' Park evolved into one big mistake.

- There is no best [insert instrument here] player. Period.

- Covers should be illegal.

- Remixes are a murder on creativity.

Fire at will? :)

It hurts to admit, but Ke$ha actually makes listenable music.

Β

Metalcore is a good genre, but only when the music is absent of clean vocals; otherwise, they ruin the instrumentation.

Β

I can get into a little late 90's- early 00's Country, but "classic" Country is just... fucking terrible.

Β

When I saw this thread, my first thought was "well I rather like Nickelback, that probably counts as unpopular!". Beyond that, I have no idea, I tend to be gloriously oblivious to what is or isn't popular opinion.

Β

Why are we erasing genres in the first place, almost every single genre out there has helped music evolve through history, there are so many genres that took influence from Rap/Hip-Hop and there are many non-Metal bands that were inspired by Metal bands.

Time to explain myself~!

Β

1# Dang, what is it with all the hatred for metal and hip-hop on here? Liek hou can u call urselv a muzik phan witout lieking da metul and hippity hopz?

Β

Β

2# J-pop is gud stoof ah tell ya hwut.

Β

Β

3# Why?

Β

Β

4# Depends

Β

Β

5# >Talking smack about metal and liking Nickelback

u dun rustled mah jimmiez m8

Β

Β

6# Linkin Park was always bad

Β

Β

7# But there are many great covers out there.

Β

1# I like some. But what I've tried to say is that from my POV if we removed one of these, the music in general would suffer the smallest possible amount. Rap is all about lyrics for me, since beat is quite repetitive once you listen to some songs. And most of the lyrics I've heard so far is... well, I should not comment on that perhaps. Meanwhile metal... well, the amount of subgenres works in it favor I guess. I probably could stand symphonic, cello, some epic doom perhaps, stoner, nu, post or post-grunge... but my overall feelings towards majority of it are rather negative. They have a large variety of rhythms and sound differently, but most of the time I only get headache listening to them.

Β

2# Yeah, I've noticed how j-pop is increasingly popular. Though it's a "nono" from me. Nothing personal, it's just that I have a friend who's a freak when it comes to all that's japanese and doesn't understand that I don't want to listen about it EVERY SINGLE FRIGGIN' TIME I see him. He's a fine guy, but should seriously tune down amount of J-stuff he's throwing at me.

Β

3# Because the praise it earned was during the time in which people mainly talked about music. I believe it was much greater deal to witness a live concert, and since people were mainly talking, the belief how great classical music is engraved itself in their minds. And was passed from generation to generation. I was once praising it no less than the others, but lately, I've found out it was just another genre simply. It has its great moments, but every genre does as well. And not everything in classical music appeals to me either. More than that, some of the instruments widely used in classical music, such as certain flutes or violins, were created in pre-baroque, baroque times. Soon after classical music became something extraordinary. I have a feeling that somehow these two facts are connected. Like, it was a 'hype' for the first, real, massive music concerts and attempts of creating something wonderful. It was widely discussed, it was new, it was 'epic'. And since globalization was in-progress, it quickly became popular around the Europe. Key thing here is: "It was."

Β

4# On what? I mean, I'm listening to latin music zealously, but yeah tongue.png

Β

5# *Shrugs* ^^'

Β

6# Hybrid Theory and Meteora are great. Reanimation was a bit worse than the first and third album though. Later on, it's just going downhill.

Β

7# Indeed, there are. I admit it openly. But each time I hear a cover, I feel like it's an attempt of taking something old and selling it with just a new wrap. I get a vibe that somebody's not able to create something new. I've once heard a saying: "When it comes to music, we've only seen but a droplet in the ocean. Anybody who says that there's nothing new to discover anymore is a fool." And I stick to this idea.

Β

Why are we erasing genres in the first place, almost every single genre out there has helped music evolve through history, there are so many genres that took influence from Rap/Hip-Hop and there are many non-Metal bands that were inspired by Metal bands.

Β

Don't take it literally, I was just trying to find a way to say that these two are rather bad for me tongue.png

No, there would be a massive gaping whole in the music world.Β

Β

But don't you ever just kick back and listen to some N.W.A or Public Enemy?

Post-grunge isn't metal, it's what stuff like Nickelback and Creed are. Β IMO, symphonic metal and Nu metal are garbage but that's just me. By stoner you do mean, stoner doom and sludge? By post-metal do you mean post-black metal or atmospheric sludge?

Β

Β

but my overall feelings towards majority of it are rather negative. They have a large variety of rhythms and sound differently, but most of the time I only get headache listening to them.

Only untrve people get headaches from metal.

Here's mine:

1. Dubstep has, and always will be, awful.

2. Skrillex is dubstep, not this "Brostep" stuff people drone on about.

3. Christian rock is best genre.

4. Instrumentals are awesome!

So yeah, that's my thoughts. I have many more, but that's my main 4.

What about the atmospheric stuff like Post-Metal, Blackgaze, and Atmospheric Black Metal, that stuff's pretty easy to tolerate for most.

Eeyup people on this website...

For the 99999999th time Skrillex is not dubstep. Dubstep is stuff like Burial, brostep is a different breed of animal.

Here's mine:

Β

-Elvis didn't do too much for music that wasn't already done, he was just a character. The Beatles were lightyears more important to Rock Music.

Β

-Metallica will never find a bass player worthy enough to even stand in place for Cliff Burton.

Β

- The new Alice in Chains is awful.

Β

- Johnny Cash is on the exact same level as John Lennon.

Β

- Stevie Ray Vaughn was a more skilled guitar player than Hendrix, but Hendrix was better with making original pieces.

Β

- Green Day had one good album. They should have fallen off of the face of the earth after that. They sold out.

Β

- Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were better grunge bands than Nirvana.

Β

- Rage Against the Machine has done more to change the world than U2.

Β

- Rap music is a total joke.

Β

- Panic! At the Disco is better than Fall Out Boy.

Β

- Chris Cornell is the most talented male vocalist in rock music history.

Β

- Maynard James Keenan from Tool and A Perfect Circle is the most talented songwriter in history.

Β

Again, this is an opinion thread. Just making that clear :D

Β

Here's some opinions

- Bon Jovi is terrible

- I don't mind Country

- Metal is meh to me. There's only a few songs I like.

- Most pop music isn't that bad. You're exaggerating.

- Electronic music can't be made just by the 'click of a button.'

But what about it? What is 'good' or 'bad' tone colour? And what exactly makes a certain tone colour 'good' or 'bad?

Β

The use of certain sounds. I'm pretty sure no one likes a very long piercing sound through their headphones.

Explain. What makes music objectionably 'good' or 'bad'?

when the singer sonds like nails on a chalkboard, or that they're gargling rocks. Or when a singer is merely talking in a monotonous tone with little to no background instrumentals. That's when it's bad music.

Well, I might get a lot of negative flack for this, but the unintelligible growling and banging that is known as "metalcore", and about 1,000 different aliases isn't considered music to me. It's just a sloppy noise thrown together in attempt to make something "edgy" and "deep". It's not enjoyable in the slightest.

Β

If this offends anyone, I'm truly sorry. But these are my views on the subject, and they're not changing anytime soon.

Β

Most country is pretty god-awful as well.

Actually, some do. But even if no one didn't, it's still subjective. Liking ANYTHING is subjective. A person likes something because that person has bias. We all do.
