Are pony/brony haters really that obnoxious, or do we just see them like that?

I know that my words might not be helpful, but what would you think if I went around complaining about Anime for the same reasons? I would get laughed off the Internet in a hot minute.

Actually, I'm of the thought process that we should love and tolerate even the haters and actually try to start dialogues with people who hate on Bronies and My Little Pony; as I said, I have had conversations with self-proclaimed anti-Bronies on the Internet and gotten them to change their tune to at least tolerating ponies and not hating on them. But at the same time, I just don't see why ponies are different from other things that are shoved in our faces. I'm simply pointing out the hypocrisy. And yes, ignoring is full-proof, but remember that you can't always ignore; after all, if you let only the haters talk about the show, then you're letting them control the dialogue and spread around whatever misinformation they want about the show and the fandom.

There has to be a balance. I'm not a gung-ho attack the haters guy because that's not right, you'll just start fights where everyone loses. I think trying to talk to them will work, but, at the same time, we have to also be real with ourselves and realize that some people just like to hate and that there's no getting through to some folks. Those are the ones you ignore.

Interesting...

And I really mean that. You have a good point there, and I can't, at the current moment, think of any good reply to that.

We should get back on topic, anyway, though.

Remember I'm always open to PMs!

Ha ha, I'm glad that you're seeing things my way!

*Puffs on pipe*

Naw, I'm just joking. Actually, you had me thinking about my own positions on the matter, and I finally was able to articulate them in a way I like thanks to you, so I extend my thanks for that.

And yeah, getting back on topic would be nice, but I do think that each of our posts was at least related to the topic. At least we weren't talking about mailboxes and why we love them or something.

Haters are not obnoxious in of themselves, what is obnoxious is when they actively attack us or show up in places where they expect bronies to be (I.e. the comments on a pony video of youtube). I can understand some of the hate we get because just like any fandom, ours includes bad people. One of the worst things about this fandom is that we hold ourselves above things like being jerks, even though often times us bronies can and will be jerks and the only thing denying that fact does is spur further hatred for our members.

Im guessing it depends on how much they hate mlp.If they hate mlp ALOT and constantly make fun of it (like some kids at my school) then yes, they are obnoxious. If they hate it but don't really make fun of it,they're not really that annoying at all.

Of course some Bronies are jerks, we're humans too! But I understand where you're coming from; as a fandom, and I know I'm not speaking for all Bronies since we're all our own people, we espouse certain views, such as being nice and being friends and such, and it seems rather hypocritical when there are Bronies who just as jerky as any non-Brony jerk. That part I get.

But I still don't tolerate hate for a fandom period just because a few Bronies are real jerks. I think it's just a lack of vision some people have when they see a few Bronies doing something and assume all Bronies are like that. It's like me seeing a bunch of Star Wars fans on a topic on a forum and seeing them being jerks to other members and then assuming all Star Wars fans are jerks. That's not right. We're all our own people. If anything, they should *ahem* dislike the jerks they meet and not treat every Brony as if he's a jerk as well. I say dislike because I find hate to be a strong feeling that's pretty ridiculous to have over things like different entertainment interests.

I love annoying them though :3

I disagree, sure there are SOME bronies who can be overbearing, but no where do i see us going on lets say... a call of duty video and saying "BRONIES FTW, WATCH MLP!"

The haters just hate cause we don't do what they want, or think like they do, its how all immature people react to things of this nature.

Ehh yeah, I know not all of us are like that, but they're pretty damn loud, and pretty annoying too.

Seriously non pony related videos, random brony says "LOL PONIES BROUGHT ME HERE" another one says "OMG, ANOTHER BRONY? I'M A BRONY TOO" and then they're debating over who's best pony and why Princess Celestia is actually a horse.

In some cases, someone who's actually mature says "will you guys stop talking about ponies?" And then the bronies flip shit and yell "OMG HATER HATER HATER"

Not always the case, but pretty common nowadays :I

Honestly, i've never ever seen that happen, but even if that does, why would that physically bother someone to the point were its some huge crime to speak your mind and talk about the things you like/love.

I don't think may people respond in "Will you guys stop talking about ponies?" either, its more like, "LOLZ, f**s you guys are just gay F***ing F**s liking my little pony, go die." Now that's something i have seen more times than i'd like to admit. And honestly, i'd be pretty disappointed if someone wishes death upon me for liking a TV show...

I'm not saying we are in the right, i'm saying we don't deserve a quarter of the hate that we get.

What I'm trying to say is that there's idiots in both sides of these arguments.

Bronies are loud and obnoxious and they get offended easily too, I mean, why would anyone take "lololol go kil ursilf ponyfag" seriously.

Most of the Anti Bronies that say that stuff are like 12. Not worth the time arguing with them, they get their satisfaction by getting reactions from us. Anti-Bronies are either trolls, or butthurt 12 year olds. "Smart" people who just don't like the show, do exist however, it annoys me when bronies group them togueter with the anti-bronies.

I would like to think i was one of those people, what got me curious about the show was just the general lack of knowledge i had about it, however, when i saw a brony get picked on for whatever the matter was, maybe having a brony picture on his youtube account? I'd try defend him/her and tell the person not to judge someone by the show they watch , it would rarely work but i digress.

If anything, i'd suggest everyone to just watch one of the better episodes of the show, if its not for them, then so be it, as long as they gave it a shot.

I find the whole brony/hater thing ridiculous. If you don't like the show, then don't watch it! Nobody cares whether or not you like the same shows as someone else. The best responce is no responce at all, or at least a civil responce, like 'hey, you hate something I like..well who gives a shit? moving on".

It depends on the person, situation, honestly whether haters or bronies are obnoxious that all depends on the person on how the person himself acts if he is obnoxious or just silently disapproving it depends on the person

Eh... you are seriously generalizing here. When you say Bronies, that includes me, and I don't partake in loud and obnoxious behavior, and it takes a lot to get me offended.

But I find it interesting that you bring up Bronies talking about ponies on videos not related to them. I see people randomly saying "Wow, this song reminds me of an Anime!" or "Dude, does anyone else thinks this song sounds like this video game song?" and those people don't get randomly bashed even though it has nothing to do with the video. Now, if I said "This song reminds me of ponies!" I'd likely get bashed. Is that fair? Am I being obnoxious even though everyone else has the ability to speak their mind about what they love?

What I'm trying to say is this: what makes bringing up ponies any different from bringing up other television shows? Nothing. But people simply want an excuse to hate on Bronies. Not saying they all just want to wantonly hate, but I feel like you're being way, way too harsh on Bronies here. There are idiots on both sides, I agree, but you're generalizing just as hard as you claim Bronies are by saying Bronies get offended too easily. You're including everyone in that group. Say some, say a portion, say something other than just Bronies.

I'm not attacking you, by the way, I just find that you're being really hard on the very people you associate with.

Well see at the very top of that post "there's idiots in both sides of the argument" That means, "NOT TALKING ABOUT THE WHOLE FANDOM, TALKING ABOUT THOSE CERTAIN ONES" and guess what, no matter what, they're part of the fandom, they're bronies, i'm not calling them "OH, JUST THOSE GUYS WHO ARE BRONIES, BUT THEY'RE THE ANNOYING ONES, UNLIKE THE REST OF THE BRONIES"

And if you start a whole conversation, to the point the whole comment section is about ponies, that gets annoying, especially if it's on every video you see, while i do love ponies and all, it gets annoying eventually.

Hey. I'm a brony too, I'm trying to see from their perspective, people don't just bash fandoms for no reason. We can't seem to overlook those things, we make a whole shitstorm out of something like "lol go kill yourself" There was one AntiBrony who spammed videos. BRONIES, as in the ones who got offended easily, just in case i still need to clarify that, were the ones who kept responding, giving him more reason to continue saying crap.

Love and Tolerance, you know what works better? Ignore them and move along.

Well... to be fair, you did say "Bronies are loud and obnoxious and they get offended easily too, I mean, why would anyone take "lololol go kil ursilf ponyfag" seriously." I realize in your other posts before that you made the distinction, but not in the post that I quoted. Sorry if I took what you said the wrong way, but there's no need to be sarcastic with me.

Overall, I agree, but, as I said before in another post in this topic, there's a difference between ignoring and letting the haters control the dialogue. For instance, seeing some random troll say "Bronies are gay" or something on a Youtube video shouldn't even warrant a response. Mostly because that is such a stupid and tired insult, but also because it's obviously just a hater and no one should even give them the time of day. At the same time, if Bronies literally said nothing and let the haters basically be the ones to inform outsiders of the fandom, that would be very, very bad in my opinion. I guess on one hand you could say it doesn't matter and we should just move on, but I sometimes feel that if I see a hater misinforming someone about the fandom, I have to step in and set them straight, in a delicate way of course. I never resort to personal insults, if that makes any difference.

Well, to me both sides are pretty obnoxious.

There are bronies that are annoying and obnoxious to try to attempt to shove ponies down a hater's throat. While, there are bronies who ignore haters and move on.

Haters have their flaws too, with some stereotypes. I just ignore them.

All right, here is my opinion.

There are obnoxious bronies. I think that anyone who says otherwise is naive or giving a little bit too much benefit of the doubt towards a group of human beings.

But my definition of a hater is narrower than what other people are describing. The people who simply dislike or don't care about ponies but don't give a damn about whether or not other people like it? Or even the people who really don't like ponies but they are polite enough to keep their mouths shut? They are not haters.

Haters are the people who spend their energy actively showing their hate for ponies. And that is beyond obnoxious.

I don't particularly understand why they feel like they have to hate the show. I am sure that there are a bunch of stupid reasons to show hate for it. But there is so much more hate being poured onto MLP than there is for so many other fandoms. Star Trek? Star Wars? The Simpsons? Yes they have their haters, but how many times have you seen, "Trekkies are fags" in the comments section of a Star Trek YouTube video?

I dunno. I just think that for what bronies do, the amount of hate we get for it is severely unbalanced.

You are right there because there is many of us that are just general fans.  We don't rage on the videos and quit/ leave the fandom just because twilight is now an alicorn, or because of some other reason.  But there are those that watch show that we all watch... getting large tats of them... panting our cars to look like a pony, or even paint our lives to be a pony.... Those are what the haters are looking at when they see a brony.  They only look at the super the outliers and don't look at the mode of all of us.

As some have stated, both can be obnoxious. (and yes, I'm a Brony/Pegasister myself but...) It's all depend on the context

-If a Brony try to force the conversation around MLP in something that have nothing to do with MLP, I can understand that the other may tell him to stop talking about MLP. However, they have no reason to be impolite. Same thing for the Bronies. If you're on a non-pony related thing, if someone tell you to stop talking about ponies, don't answer back. Just stop. Report them if they are impolite.

-If you are on something pony-related and someone attack the Bronies, don't answer back. Report him. That's as simple as that. If you answer back, they will continue. That's actually go for every fandom, not just MLP. There will always be people like that, don't enter in their games, please.

Well said, yes that is one thing that is bothering me a bit about whenever the subject of haters comes up is that some peoples definition of what a hater are simply put wrong. A non fan is simply that, a non fan some of them are actual haters who really do go out of their way to hate bronies. But, some of they might have tried the show but decided it wasn't their thing, or they might not even know bronies or this current generation of MLP even exists. I didn't know about bronies until this friend of mine told me about the show and that I might like it, I was skeptical because my only prior exposure to ponies was seeing a little bit of G1 when I was a kid and my cousins massive pony toy collection she had when she was a kid and more likely than not probably still has. I thought it was really strange that so many teenagers and adults especially men were into the show but really saw no point in actually hating them and when my friend told me about Discord I figured that there might be something to this show after all so I tired it out and am glad I did.

Quite honestly, despite being told not to engage trolls, this guy bothers the living hell with his discrimination against bronies. I wrote a long comment about how he's just being ignorant and he should really try the show and such, and how he shouldn't hate on people who just like a TV show, and he deletes the damn message and responds like "tl:dr" (I'm ROBLOXovicarlson, if you bother to search the comments list).

This god forsaken song is on my iPod, and despite being excellent, this guy is in my head when I listen to it! Oh, and the people, are supporting him! I'm both a Pokemon and MLP fan, and this just makes me furious!

I'd like to reply to the OP and point out that obnoxiousness takes at least two people. Someone cannot be obnoxious if you are not annoyed by them. It is best to fix that which causes the annoyance in yourself, since people rarely take other people's encouragement. Things that annoy us usually hint at something in ourselves that we don't want to see, that we have pushed aside. That's the very reason why we get annoyed by someone. They trigger it and bring it to the surface.

So-called "haters" (bad generalization by the way) are in pain. They are so troubled by their fears that they feel they need to vent that pain. When someone expressed hatred towards things like subcultures (bronydom), they are afraid that the social norms that gave them a feeling of safety and stability might crumble. They don't feel capable to adapt, and that points to why they were searching for that sense of safety in the first place.

Sometimes we all just need to be shown a little kindness.

And when nothing comes from it, don't stress out. Not being attached to results is crucially important for the process. Because projecting expectations onto people can be perceived as threatening, and probably will by people who are already defensive.

By the way, maybe it helps the development of compassion and empathy if I mention that there are also many 'haters' who consider themselves bronies.

All you have to do is take a bunch of letters! Add it to the thread! Now just take a little something bold, not italic! A bit of underline, just a pinch! Writing these words is such a cinch! Add a teaspoon of punilla! Add a little more, and you count to four, and you always get your filler... Onehundred! So sweet and tasty! Hundred! Don't be too hasty! Hundred! Hundred, hundred, HUNDRED!

That may sometimes be the case but not always, there are some people that no matter how reasonable you yourself may be they will still hate you because you like cartoon ponies. This is not to say that you need to stoop to their level but I really don't see how I am somehow responsible for the actions of others I have nothing to do with.

Quite frankly i think both parties are at fault for being obnoxious. While i feel like the uninformed and often times stupid haters instigate it, i also believe bronies harsh and often uncalled for backlash is also a factor. Anyway, most of the hate videos i have seen are a bunch of 10-12 year olds trying to call us "gay", or just fox news being stupid and ignorant (although that does not surprise me).

The Fox News aspect just makes me want to slam my head into my desk so hard... I mean, you had a guy freaking talking about the whole Brony thing like it was prophesized in the bible.

...

In fact, he did say that. How sad...

Regardless, Dowlphin's post was epic. I loved it. Very succinctly put.
