I was wondering which of these movies you like better. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Vote above and put reasons below.

I like the older version much better (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory). This one is has a more timeless quality and I enjoy it more. It also has more heart than the newer one. Gene Wilder is a better Willy Wonka than Johnny Depp too. One, for better acting, and two, he sings the song: Pure Imagination which is one of the best things about the movie.

The newer one doesn't have much heart and the acting is bad (Except for Johnny Depp, he did a pretty good job. But Gene Wilder was better in my opinion.) Also, the newer one is really creepy and not in a good way.

Come with me, and you'll be in a world of pure imagination...

That song is the reason why the original is better.

Not really, but I just like the original's songs, Gene Wilder's portrayal of Wonka, and the sets are just more appealing to me. I didn't like the remake AT ALL.
Oh, and I agree with the bad acting, modernization  and creepiness of the new one. It just seemed riddled with Wonka's childhood problems really.

I love the original film. The remake...not so much. If has far too dark of an atmosphere and Johnny Depp, while he is a good actor, I feel that he tried too hard in this film. He also didn't come off as someone who was a strange yet somehow loving guy, until the end at least. The songs were also not as memorable. Really, nothing was as memorable. Even the more stereotyped children of the first film were better in my opinion. The original just had a much more playful and light hearted atmosphere, which I adore.

Now, there is one little exception, that boat ride in the tunnel. That, was, inter, esting, to say the least. I actually kinda like it though. :P

So, overall, I think the new one has absolutely nothing on the original. It still is a decent film in it's own right, but I just love the first movie and I cannot say that about the remake. (I actually seen the remake first) :o

I think that the older version is much better than the newer one.

I will admit though that charlie and the chocolate factory was clever in their music picks. Each piece of music they play in the factory is inspired from a different decade of music. It's a clever idea, but I think the timelessness of the music from the original is superior. There is honestly no contest, the music was better in the old one and it holds a strong nostalgic value.

I also like how Gene WIlder portrayed Wonka over Johnny Depp. The old wonka was a mysterious character that you couldn't trust from the first moment you saw him where he does his fake fall scene.

I found this scene was just brilliant and this scene was Wilder's demand for being involved with the film.

There was also no creepy tunnel scene in the remake! That was the one thing I was interested in when this was in production! img-1405024-1-sad.png

Of course I'm a sucker for classics, but I also love the new one.  I voted for the original because every once-in-awhile, I get this urge to watch a bunch of home-theater-classics.  Chitty chitty bang bang, singing in the rain, some like it hot, and so forth.  And when I'm on a classics spree, I have to watch ORIGINALS, so I based it solely off the fact I do that.

While the new version has moments that I can appreciate, and bits I wish I could lift out of it and fit into the classic movie, the classic is my favourite.

I like Johnny Depp, but his role in Charlie was downright painful to watch. It's like he took on some sort of bad-acting alter ego...Johnny Derp? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Besides, the guy had to follow up Wilder's act, so his role was kind of doomed before filming even began. None can match the awesomeness of Gene motherfrakin' Wilder. sleep.png

I have to go with the original too.  One thing I didn't like about the new one is that, unlike the old one, Charlie was perfect and didn't do anything to get himself disqualified as a potential heir to the factory.

Is it possible to compare Gene Wilder to Pinkie Pie and Johnny Depp to Pinkamena?  All those nervous ticks he had remind me of Party of One now that I think about it.

I'd have to go with the original. I understand that Johnny Depp was acting his ass off and he is a really good actor. But, the truth is the original always beats the remake because it shouldn't be changed into a remake. So, the original has my vote.

Am I the only one who hated the old one with my guts, called it the second worst movie I have ever seen, called CATCF a masterpiece and one of Tim Burton's finest, and adored Johnny's acting?

No, then who cares? I vote the new one!

"There's no earthly way of knowing,

which direction we are going.

There's no knowing where were rowing,

Or which way the river's flowing.

Is it raining?  Is it snowing?

Is a hurricane a blowing?

Not a speck of light it showing, so the danger must be growing.

Are the fires of Hell a glowing?

Is the grisly reaper mowing? Yes!

The danger must be growing,

for the rowers keep on rowing!

And they're certainly not showing,

any signs that they are slowing!"

The remake was horrible. The Willy Wonka was just plain Michael Jackson face creepy, and the kids in this movie scared me also.

The orginal was one of the first I saw as a child, and has always held a special place in my heart. I like this one way more.

Gene Wilder was a mischevious and fun-loving soul who took his business seriously. And he sang great.

Johnny Depp was a damaged man-child, burdened by a shoehorned "dentist dad" backstory.

Pretty much everything in this video.

It may be just me, but as dark as this story can get, Chocolate Factory should have a sense of childlike wonder to it, which was nonexistent in Burton's movie. Willy Wonka may not be 100% true to the book, but it does a much better job of capturing its spirit and what it was trying to say about being a good person.

Plus Gene Wilder is absolutely amazing.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory hands down. It is much better then Tim Burton's one. The original has a charm about it, it makes me remember when I was really young watching it with my family. The new one was "Blegh" it was OK but it was not as good as the original. This is how I respond when someone says they like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I have to go with the original one.  It's more fanciful in ideas/delights vs the newer one.  Not to mention the original movie used real little people vs the new movie using those digital version, from what I was told.

Also, I have to agree that Gene Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka is just so unique, like Jack Nicholson playing The Joker in Tim Burton's Batman movie,  Mark Hamil voicing the joker in BTAS, or Sigourney Weaver playing Ripley in the Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 films.

Nothing against Johnny Depp, but he is just the Michael Jackson of the Willy Wonka world imho.
