Bethielikesponies 81 May 4, 2013 Share May 4, 2013 I think Silver Spoon is referring to "born with a silver spoon in their mouth" and as I know, that means, she would of been born into a wealthy family. Usually they are school aged when they get their cutie marks, but if she was born into a wealthy family, shouldn't it have come when she was born? Or maybe she just woke up one day and was like "oh cool my family is rich" This post is going to be embassing if I got something like the phrase wrong, but oh well. ~Starlight~ 764 May 4, 2013 Share May 4, 2013 For being a spoon... Well maybe she got it for being a caterer, maybe for a posh restaurant, she may set it all up. I am not that sure how people like her to get her cutie mark to be honest... :3 6 Hush hush, Starlights asleep, hush hush, through her telescope she weeps, hush, hush, as she hunts for mars, hush, hush, and head for stars! Acoustic Cloud 2,202 May 4, 2013 Share May 4, 2013 Or.... Her father liked to collect shot-glasses at different towns, and you know how next to shot-glasses are always collectible spoons? So while her dad was getting drunk, she sought comfort in collectible spoons.

She probably got it because of the money her family has. Question number two is hard though.. But maybe she like.. Helped her family to become rich in some way? idk. hawkflame 3,313 May 4, 2013 Share May 4, 2013 I think her cutie mark has less to do with her family's wealth, and more to do with her destiny to be Equestria's greatest silversmith. 1 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!
AstralDrip 67 May 4, 2013 Share May 4, 2013 I've always wondered the same thing. Is it her destiny to be a spoiled trust fund kid forever? Her cutie mark is also her name, which I know happens quite often, but what's the chances of that? I guess names really do predetermine what kind of person/pony you will be.
Scootalove 10,689 May 4, 2013 Share May 4, 2013 I think she got her cutie mark from her father collecting a lot of spoons or, for shining a lot of spoons at his very fancy restaurant. 1 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Winona the Dog 1,984 May 4, 2013 Share May 4, 2013 Maybe she specializes in making spoons? lol. But yeah Silver Spoon is a symbol for wealth an fortune so apparently she's a spoiled little brat.
Starflower 323 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 She either collects spoons or she just simply comes from a rich family. Another theory I have is that she might have some special talent with spoons, like crafting. Or her favorite food may be soup.
MyShiningArmor 128 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 Ah but then what about Diamond Tiara? Is it then followed that she would be destined to be daddys little princess for the rest of her life? Her cutie mark makes no senae at all either, unless they are bullies against blank flanks because they got theirs relatively young and Silver Spoons indeed has to do with the OPs phrase and Diamond Tiaras refers to her being destined to be an upright snoot her whole life.
ShadowRose2k 271 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 It seems regardless if a pony know's his or her "talent" they won't get a cutie mark till a certain age. Something like puberty it seems. Tho I have no age basis for that. Also name/cutie mark thing, It apears that when born the childs (foals) mother has a precognitive idea of what to name him/her. Like a hint given to the child (foal) of what will make them happy in life. Other wise it would be odd to have a pony called say (Star Watcher) possibly indicating a talent in astrology, but had a cutie mark of pickaxe and shovel, working in a mine. lol. 2 Other's more Talented than me. http://askflufflepuff.tumblr.com/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmY4-RMB0YY

Ah but that would do just fine. Perhaps Star Watcher likes to stare at the stars or something but just happe s to be a talented miner? I actually just realized something. Cutie Marks are a great big gimmick. Think about the target audience versus who actually watches it. For us its a great big question of WHY? For a little child its easy to say that the pony with the apples on her butt is Applejack. Or the pony with the sparkles on her butt is Twilight Sparkle. I know from being a babysitter and having quite a few younger siblings that young children register objects before they register colors. My three year old sister who has a My Little Pony toothbrush will bring it to me and will say stuff like "Sissy look its Pinkie Pony. See balloons?" But she takes a few minutes of questioning to realize that Pinkie Pie is actually a Pink pony. And no. Shes not stupid. Shes smart enough to recognie small details like the cutie mark before the actual color of the pony itself. In otherwords the Cutie Marks are just the creators, and Hasboros, way of putting a name to a pony so that small children will ask for more toys and the parents will be able to comply with the knowledge of said names. :3. Us older viewers(I'm 18), are just thinking way too far into things. Its not that complex. Agreed?
Rainbow Dash Loyalty 1,275 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 (edited) Lol I dunno, maybe she's good at spoon-related stuff, also the spoon on her cutie mark also has a heart on the back end of the spoon so maybe that's a clue for something about it. I'm actually clueless on this one. [ Edited May 5, 2013 by Rainbow Dash Loyalty ~Signature created by Chaotic Discord~
Mint_Melody 91 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 (edited) Lol! That's actually really funny. I don't have a problem of 'when' she got it. My question is what the hell it does. I figure when they leave the weanling stage and become fillies, they hit cutie mark puberty or something like that. Though, if this is true, I still haven't figured out how the CMC haven't found their cutie marks, since they're blatantly obvious. Back to my issue. What is Silver Spoon's or Diamond Tiara's talent?! How do those cutie marks represent anything but a status symbol. Being rick isn't a talent. Does Tiara inspect Diamond Tiara's? Does Silver Spoon eat with her silver spoon particularly well. Yeah... I don't even want to go any further down this road. It's going to get long and twisted inside of my head. Ah but that would do just fine. Perhaps Star Watcher likes to stare at the stars or something but just happe s to be a talented miner? I actually just realized something. Cutie Marks are a great big gimmick. Us older viewers(I'm 18), are just thinking way too far into things. Its not that complex. Agreed? no, I can't agree with that. You actually said the reason they do it, but I think you're interpreting the reason wrong. People come down really hard on Hasbro for wanting to make money, and I don't know why. If they didn't want to make money, we would not have the show. But cutie marks aren't there to sell products. Cutie marks do a few things from a child's perspective. First off, making ponies different colors, with magical shapes on their butts immediately sets the atmosphere for children. Since most of them watching the show know that ponies don't look like that, it clearly says to them that this is a magical and beautiful place, that isn't the world they know. Cutie marks also help children identify more quickly with the ponies, they are part of their appearance and usually symbolize common things kids like to do. Kids that love parties will usually be drawn toward Pinkie Pie very quickly, because from the very first episode, they learn to associate parties and fun with Pinkie's look. Kids who love animals can quickly figure out what she does, without much context. The lightening bolt of Rainbow Dash along with her bright colors almost immediately tells children she is fast and flashy. This information is usually cataloged in the subconscious and that is why it's normal for them to not be able to put it into words when they aren't looking at the pony. Also, sometimes it's hard to put faces to names. Cutie marks make the characters more easily remembered by name. That is why they are simple pictures, and usually have something to do with the pony's name. If you showed a line of cutie marks to a bunch of kids and asked them the names of each pony, they'd probably point out Apple Jack, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash most easily. They're largely identifiers for kids so they can quickly connect with, and easily remember by name the ponies. Keep in mind when you ask a child something like "What is Pinkie Pie?" when they've pointed out her cutie mark on something, it's typical for them to take a while. They're brains take a little more time to sift through things, and back tracking from one object to identify it with another is a complicated progress, even more so putting that into words isn't easy for a child. Cognitively they may understand, but getting that out of their mouths correctly can take time. This happens for different rates for all children, which will explain how some children arrive at the conclusion quicker. And you are right, it does not in any way make them stupid. In the actual world of the show, cutie marks play a big role in destiny, and proving that you accept or at least partially understand your own destiny. They also tie into self worth. Ponies without cutie marks often feel useless and confused. A cutie mark means you've found what you've found a way to contribute to the world that you genuinely love and you're now happy with yourself. The mane six often apologize or acknowledge when they make a mistake, but rarely is the issue an existential crisis. Why should it be? They know who they are, and accept that is who they are meant to be. Edited May 5, 2013 by Mint_Melody
MyShiningArmor 128 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 (edited) -_- you just basically called me an idiot and backed up everything I said at the same time. how old are you? Twelve? This show is geared towards TODDLERS. The ruse of the cutie mark putting a name to a face makes it so that children can ask their psrents for pinkie pie toys or rainbow dash toys. Hasboro ONLY makes the toys. The show itself belongs to Lauren Faust. Or did until she quit. The cutie marks have been there from Generation ONE purely for the purpose of making money. Things like flashy and colorful and magical amd different from our world are WAY too big of concepts for the target audience to recognize. Were talking about little girls aged 1-5. Not 12 and 13 year olds. Its been the same marketing strategy since my mom was a kid in the 70s when My Little Pony first came out. its the same concept of how super heroes do their costumes. a little kid can easily recognize a spider or a bat or a big red blob with an S in it and say oh thats spider man or batman. or a light in bolt or green lantern represesnts the flash or the green lantern. in a way the cutie marks are the xreators way of giving each pony an identity easily recognized by, again, THE TARGET AUDIENCE. This sells many more toys. Edited May 5, 2013 by MyShiningArmor

TailsIsNotAlone 3,696 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 (edited) I don't go with the idea that she gets a cutie mark just for her family being rich, and getting spoiled rotten isn't really a special talent either. So I assume it has some functional purpose we don't understand yet. It's more interesting that way. Maybe she's good with antiques, etiquette, catering or metalworking. The possibilities in fan works are many. Edited May 5, 2013 by TailsIsNotAlone "Human beings fascinate me Being just the way they are..."
Zygen 6,066 May 5, 2013 Share May 5, 2013 Yeah I always wondered about cutie marks like that. Maybe she just got it when she started becoming stuck up and spoiled, maybe she didnt always act like she does. And when she started she got her cutie mark. You know her destiny honesty is quite a sucky one, almost makes me feel bad for her. 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig!
