Will you leave the fandom if G5 is dark and full of action?

i think it would be interesting to see a darker MLP. im not sure how hasbro would make that work with their target audience and still be suitably dark for an older audience. (I mean c'mon guys you remember what happened with Derpy...)

But no, i would not leave the show if it is dark and full of terrors. I might scold it a bit for any crappiness which is present, but i will still love and tolerate the shiz-nat out of it. Because it is ponies.

I like the show because it's cute, innocent, and fairly lighthearted(aside from the occasional heavy moments).

Turning it into something that it completely isn't would turn me off completely.

That said, it's not something worth leaving the fandom over, I'll probably just stick to the G4 fandom like I usually have

I wouldn't leave.  I like the lightness of My Little Pony, but I can also dig a darker series. Short of a return to g3.5 I don't think I would leave.  And even then, I wouldn't leave so much as I would take a break or focus on the gens I like.

That sounds like a really cool idea! It could be like, a Netflix special series or something. I think they would have to be careful with what they do with the characters though. You couldn't have the characters changed, but they couldn't really stay completely themselves (except for Pinkie).

I can't imagine how that would work out. The path it's currently taking seems to be doing just fine. Making it darker and more grim might sound like a nice concept (Fallout Equestria...?), but I am unsure if it would click right. I mean, with other cartoons that turned a bit grittier, they had elements that could stand to balance the nature of the new theme.

With TMNT, I would expect some action to happen. Throw in some guns and explosions, alright sure. Makes it a tad more believable if you ask me.

With Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM!!!), turning it into a show about guerrilla warfare in a losing battle against a cyborg madman scientist was an act of genius.

MLP doesn't seem to have the preceding concept in order to make it dark at all. I guess I wouldn't complain if it somehow happened, but I just don't see it.

Humankind was taught to be miserable, by many means in the past.

Those cartoons reflected an overall consciousness of their current period in time, now I feel driven towards more clear stuff.

Everything that tunes into joy, well-being, self-discovery and more joy.

It's party right here, within the full spectrum.

Catch on the new generations of My Little Pony, My Little Pony : Princess of Titan, premiering this saturday, only on the HUB network! (Dem I'm bored)

Anyway, a darker stories in G5 of MLP featuring cute ponies could be, tolerable. But I like the way G4 is going, they just have the right balance for a horse show.

So let's say G5 is a retcon of G4. The art style is the same, just dark and gritty. The original mane 6, Celestia, Luna, Cadence and pretty much every character from G4 is accounted for. Even the villains are revamped. Discord and Chrysalis....maybe Sombra, since I want to see him have an actual story next time. I would support it. Things need to change and they can't be the same all the time.

Prime example is the 1987 TMNT cartoon. It was comedic and light hearted. The 2003 came along and it was a much more darker cartoon. Some people loved it, but the hardcore G1 Turtles fans rejected it. I think it could work for MLP. I mean first off G1 MLP is pretty dam dark for a girls cartoon in the 80s. The 80s was an age of goofy and light hearted animation. With stuff like TMNT, HE MAN, Thunder Cats, Transformers(the movie was dark)Inspector Gadget and many others. The 90s was the age of dark and gritty animation.

Great examples are Batman TAS and Disney's Gargoyles. I would say the years 2000-2013 have been kinda...well, weird, I can't classify them under any tone. It seems to have been been. more of the light hearted, over the dark stuff

You clearly stated that G5 would keep G4's art-style, I don't think it would classify as a new gen, but rather a reboot of G4, as each new generation is a new art-style for ponies. This period of time doesn't seems to big on darker cartoons, so, it might likely be a failure. Though, we have to take in consideration the target audience of FiM from S1 is 5 years older, so, they've grown up, and might be into darker stuff, but I'm not sure if it's a wise idea to change the tone that drastically

Well if they were going to make it dark it would all depend on the art style, if it was similar to G4 and they made it dark and grim then I just couldn't take it seriously.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

It's likely not going to happen. Hasbro's main target for this franchise is little girls and their executives seem to believe that little girls like shallow pink foofy dreck as most companies do. The only reason G4 is actually watchable by adults is because they allowed Lauren Faust free reign in the beginning and continue to extend that to the remaining team. Other than making them jam in an occasional toy advertisement, that is.

That being said though, they may (very very unlikely) decide that an older male audience is lucrative from their experiences with the bronies and do it. I'd be more likely to watch if these dark themes were more mature, not just darkness for depression's sake. Maturity here is the key word. If it was badly written and "dark and edgy" because it's the cool thing to do, then I'd stop. Basically, I don't care about a little darkness, as long as it's well written. If it is, then said show will likely be even better than this generation due to being able to explore depths not possible at this time. I'd very much enjoy the product. MLP to me right now is just a simple pleasure I watch when bored, not anything thought-provoking.

Also, the G4 fandom probably wouldn't be around anymore by that time. I imagine they want to milk this generation's success dry first. So it would probably be an entirely new fandom I'd take part in. I'm okay with that.

If G5 does turn out to be dark and action packed, then I will actually come back to the fandom. Stuff like that is more my style, and I think such an atmosphere will be a more effective way to discuss more serious things in a better manner.
