Evil Door! Really?

So it seems that a lot of people are believing this idea that a reviewer named bronycurious came up with on how King Sombra turned evil.

The idea is King Sombra was turned evil by the door trap in the Crystal Empire episode. All I have to say is this, This is by fare dumbest idea I have ever heard of a person going evil. It's like saying Joker went evil just because he pot same clown makeup on one day and said, I'm evil now. It just can't be that easy.

What I believe is that Sombra practiced a lot of dark magic in secret, to prove that he could handle ruling the Crystal Empire. Because everypony thought he was weak and could not rule the empire. But became corrupted by the evil magic and turned evil that way. King Sombra then stole the crystal heart and made all the traps to make sure no one found it. Including the door trap. It's just a trap.

Beside there are ever more questions if he became corrupted by the door.

1. Why was he using dark magic in the first place?

2. If he found a secret area under the castle, why would he go alone and not bring any guard with him to make sure it was safe?

3. If he did bring guards why did they not snap him out of it? Pretty easy for Twilight and Spike to do.

4. Who put the door there in the first place and why?

5. Did they know the pony who found it would go all evil and make life hard for the Crystal ponies? Also did they know he/she would be using dark magic?

6. Why can the door still be used to open up an area to the castle?

The idea could be good if only bronycurious more to it. Like did the door open to a room with books on dark magic?

Now I'm just trying to understand why people like this idea, when it just seems so weak to us?

Do you think he went evil this way or another way? I just want other reasons.

Here is the video.

As WWE Superstar "The Miz" would say to this guy:

"Really?"

"Really?"

"Really?"

After all, the stained-glass window(s) in Twilight's door-hallucination pretty much revealed Sombra to be the CREATOR of said door-trap, not the VICTIM.

I don't think it was the door that corrupted him, but just dark magic.  He probably was a kind ruler, before discovering dark magic.  I also think he was the first ruler of the Crystal Empire and the dark magic made him immortal.  magic was new in that time and he wanted to test out different ways of casting spells, he discovered dark magic, but couldn't control it so he became the ruthless ruler we saw him as.  The door probably was a place he could put the ponies who tried to stop him, and torture them down there.  I do think he was a victim, but the door was created by him.

If you've been following Bronycurious's videos for as long as I have (a.k.a not long after he first started making videos), you'd know that the "random thoughts" videos are just short, scriptless theory videos that he randomly makes up. He usually doesn't agree with the theories.

As for the theory itself, I think it's an interesting thought, and one that could work in theory, but, as another poster mentioned, it's basically said that Sombra created the door, which probably means he couldn't have been corrupted by it, since it's his own creation.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

It is just a random thoughts vid, but yeah I agree this seems a pretty silly theory. At least for the moment. We are talking about a dude who can banish an entire race and city from reality for 1000 years, and wipe the memories of said race. It really seems odd the door would be the ultimate source of such magical powers when its only presented as one obstacle Twilight has to overcome. Not that its a petty one. I also have to concur with Anti-Villain that Sombra's looming presence may indicate his control of the power. There's also the fact that beyond the door lies traps he deliberately set. It is indicated that Sombra placed the Crystal heart there and set the trap as when said trap was sprung Sombra immediately knew of it.

It is an interesting thought, but I disagree with it. It makes more sense to me that the door was just one of King Sombra's traps to prevent anyone from obtaining the Crystal Heart.

My guess is that he became a villain through a combination of a lust for power and ignorance. He wanted power, and he would look for it in the wrong places. This would explain his usage of dark magic that is unlike any magic depicted in the show up until The Crystal Empire (Part 1)

I can imagine him as a young adult, excitedly and voraciously pouring through book after book about dark magic, driven by his lust for power. However, as evidenced by his defeat in The Crystal Empire (Part 2), the most seemingly powerful magic originating out of anything other than love is powerless against true magic originating out of love. But, due to his eagerness for power, he did not learn that fact. If he ever came across it, which he most likely did if he studied enough to become that good at magic, he would have rejected it in some manner.

King Sombra fueled his own corruption with the choices he made, so he is not a victim. He is a villain who deliberately attempted to undermine love and light. His behavior was out of legitimate malice.
