Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon

Hey,

I was thinking. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are the most misunderstood characters in the show. People call them bullies, and jerks but we have to remember that they're just children. They don't know better, plus most children that are rich don't have their parents around that much so they tend to act out to others around them.

Do you agree that Diamond Tiara and Silver spoon ae misunderstood and deserve love?

Tell me below.

I've been bullied almost my whole life, so I can't really give meanies much sympathy. Though, I don't hate Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, as I do tend to love their designs and colours. And the sugarlump-rump thing is so much fun to say.

They are indeed misunderstood and they do indeed need love. They deserve all the love they can get, they are more then just bullies and jerks. I'm certain that they have a lot of potential for future show content and we will probably watch them change. Although they are fun the way they are, so no need to change them anytime soon. But still, they are awesome and awesome characters deserve love. They'll probably stop being bullies later on. They are kind of at the moment but they are more then only bullies.

I don't think I will ever be able to love Diamond Tiara. I believe she is a spoiled brat who doesn't care who she puts down in order to make herself feel higher up on the totem poll.

I think that Silver Spoon is not spoiled. Instead, her parents don't show her much love at all and it makes her try to find it elsewhere.  Since she comes from a rich family, Diamond Tiara was naturally attracted to her, and when they became friends Silver Spoon started acting like her new friend in order to be accepted.

There's still hope for Silver Spoon, I believe. :3

no just because you don't get as much attention as you want does not mean you can be a total bitch to every one you know just because they don't get as much "love" as other people should mean you act like a total bitch to every one lots of people have problems and you don't take it out on other people i know every one handles it differently but still that does not make it ok.

I can see your point and agree, however also look at the episode Family Appreciation Day, Diamond Tiara's father is friendly and pushes Diamond Tiara to join with Granny Smith and the others.  On the other hand, that may have been a front he put up to keep the deal with Granny Smith for the zap-apple jam.  Silver Spoon has never appeared to enjoy causing misery, she instead seems to follow Diamond's example for fear of either losing the only friend she has or for fear of Diamond turning on her.

My opinion actually isn't, that they are "two spoilt children looking for love" (OFC they are a little spoiled, but not that spoiled). I see them as the following...

Diamond Tiara has a clear, sophisticated upbringing. Her dad probably has showed her how the world works - if you work hard to get what you want, you can achieve it. That's why DT might see other children a little too childish, and that's why she might say snide remarks about what they do.

She actually tries to achieve her goals and be successful.

And since she sees her family superior, she feels like she can say snide remarks to other people's families.

They never have done more bullying than just make random snide remarks and laugh at them. I know that counts as bullying, but I just don't see them as bullies because of it - if they'd do something to humiliate the CMC, then they'd be bullies. They just tend to say something (that's usually quite true) and laugh about it.

Silver Spoon is the typical rich good girl that tries to get friends, and thus clings to somepony her family would appreciate.

There is so much more to being rich, and you have to analyze every aspect to kinda see, why the character is what she is.

I think DT and SS are what they are due to their surroundings. To be a successful businesspony, you have to be a little mean. Usually that is a thing that rich families teach to their children.

But if I use this aspect, I'd have to think how business works in Equestria - might be that it isn't THAT ruthless...

Oh, and you have to remember, that everypony in Ponyville knows DT's father. That must bring some pressure on such a small pony...

i never really looked at them this way. however, right at this moment in the show i do not think they deserve much sympathy. the show doesn't let anything know about the lives of diamond tiara and silver spoon. so there is not really any way to tell if their lives are as you say they are. but i will definately want to see further character development on these two. they seem interesting enough.

Diamond Tiara:

Diamond Tiara appears to have a very rich dad in the show which makes it very possible she was spoiled growing up. Some have pointed out that he was very nice in an episode, which proves my point even further. He was too soft and never argued with his daughter. Everything was handed to her whenever she pleased. He never gave her any discipline and never taught her anything. That is the reason I think she acts the way she does. She is used to having everything revolve around her so she bullies others when they don't listen to her or agree with her. Since she was spoiled, she mostly got a lot of physical objects and never had any actual social interactions with others. The only "friend" she has is Silver Spoon and they aren't exactly friends for the right reasons. I think the only reason Diamond Tiara accepted Silver Spoon as a friend is because their families are rich. That means she probably doesn't know how she is supposed to act. I think she should be taught by the CMC in an episode and hopefully she learns and changes her ways.

Silver Spoon:

I think she is actually kind on the inside, but she was bullied as a child most likely due to her glasses. She was desperate for a friend and decided to act like a personal slave to Diamond Tiara just so she could be accepted by someone. My next theory has two different sides. I either think Silver Spoon is still nice, but doesn't act like that in front of Diamond Tiara so she stays accepted by Diamond Tiara, and to not risk losing a "friend." I think this is the more likely side as she as been known for occasional acts of kindness (See Family Appreciation Day. She was the first to applaud Granny Smith's story, but stops after getting a glare from Diamond Tiara.) My second side is that Diamond Tiara has rubbed off on her and she acts accordingly. I don't think this is correct, but it's possible.

Conclusion:

Some people do tend to forget that they are just children who haven't been taught the correct lessons. I think that the parents are partially to blame, but Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are not completely innocent. They have done wrong before and I think they should be taught by someone the correct way to be a friend and overall kinder pony. The Mane 6 or more likely; the CMC could do this. Or they could even learn it on their own. For example, the CMC could do something nice for Silver Spoon and they would eventually become friends. Due to the CMC's ability to be an actual friend (unlike Diamond Tiara), Silver Spoon would get closer to them then she did with Diamond Tiara and would start spending less time with her. Diamond could possibly realize after Silver Spoon  is gone that she is all alone and may try to change her ways to find friendship with someone. A happy ending would be Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara becoming friend with the CMC and could possibly help them find a cutie mark. Maybe Diamond Tiara's special talent is actually helping others, but she never discovered it and her cutie mark could change from what it is now. That part most likely wouldn't happen, but it's worth mentioning.

(Sorry for rather long post. I just feel Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are very misunderstood characters.)

There is never any justification for being a bully. Perhaps they will learn (theoretically) in the future, and will stop being such bitches, but as for now (and probably until the end if MLP), they don't deserve any pity. I know many people who grew up without a parent or without seeing them very often, and they've never been as ridiculous as these two characters in question from the show. I would say I'm also an example; I've never had my parents around, and those that have risen me hardly ever spoke to me (although now they have started to, for some reason), yet I'm really not that much of a bitch...

...

...offline.

Online I'm pretty nasty, but that's because, well... I'm not so sure. I'm suddenly more cynical and negative when on a computer.

Anyway (I got off topic), no, they don't deserve any pity love. However, I do think that perhaps some write them off without putting a deserving amount of thought behind their conclusions. I would say, in short, they don't deserve to be loved (I mean this in a sense of a viewer loving a character), but they also don't deserve to be hated or ignored.

I don't hate them as much as before. I do think they're mostly understood. I think one day they'll wake up and change and maybe make friends with the CMC. (My idea for a show after FiM), At this point though, I actually like them :)

I do believe they're not as close to their family like Applebloom, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and heck, even Babs! My love goes to DT and SS. Hugs and cuddles for them :3

Needed fifteen minutes to sort my thoughts... come up with... Well, "biased" rant.

I have been bullied during most of my childhood. Kindergarten, basic school and academic high school. By several, different bullies. I tried to reconcile them. And everytime I had to realize that when it came to the point that parents, teachers and children worked together that the classic infantile bullly knows that they are acting against better judgement and morals, norms, or whatever you want to call it. They may have lacked of love, but they were also unable to come towards me even though I was ready to forgive them. They are not just children that don't know it better. They can not act different from trying to compensate their own complexes. You can't really present every bully as a victim because his victims mostly can't wait until this poor being wakes up and realizes what shit he did and have to suffer directly because they can't compensate. I can bring up basic respect for a sentient being towards a bully. But love? It's a futile attempt in most cases. As Long as they are children this never worked in my experience.

EDiT: gosh! i cna't believe I typed that! I opened ols wounds by myself and ignored that past is past. Don't hate me.

Allow me to interject, my little ponies. For what reason do any of you think that just because Diamond comes from a rich family that that said family...

1. Spoils her rotten

2. Ignores her?

Just because they are rich does not mean she is spoiled nor ignored. There are some little minions out there who just want to be bullies for the simple fact they are bullies. We saw in that one episode that her father can punish her (I do not believe he encouraged her to play. I believe he understood the situation and FORCED her to do as a humilation punishment) and her response to when Babs threatened to tell her mother about the bullying proves that her parents are harsh when she misbehaves.

So why is she a bully? Many reasons.

1. She is rich and well-off. Ergo she looks down upon all others who do not live her lifestyle. Has nothing to do with her parents, she is just a brat.

2. She lives in Ponyville instead of Canterlot. With her entitled, higher sense of self, she could find this lifestlye beneath her and as such takes it out on everypony else.

3. She's a bitch. Pure and Simple.

I do not place blame on her parents because I do not believe the sterotype that because they are rich, the neglect/spoil her.

Discord has spoken.

Nothing in their background and upbringing could possibly make it okay for them to act like jerks.   "Kids being kids", "they don't know better", or whatever rationalization about their home life (which we know little about) may *explain* why they do what they do, but an explanation is not an *excuse*.

It's this kind of attitude that allows bullying to be a serious problem in real life.

I've always found Silver Spoon to be more sympathetic than Diamond Tiara at first glance, largely due to her reaction to Granny Smith's story in the classroom (she had a positive response as opposed to DT who was upset). Silver Spoon is really just a follower, and I have a feeling that Diamond probably tends to neglect her as a friend, which makes me feel bad for her. However, Diamond isn't without her problems either - as several people have pointed out, bullies usually do what they do because they're unhappy, particularly with their family lives. We've already sort of had a "bully redemption" episode with the whole Babs Seed thing, so it's sort of unlikely that we'll have a DT exposition episode anytime soon, but anyway.

Ever since looking more into Diamond Tiara, I've always thought it was odd that DT is as hated as she is. Ironically, I think the main reason DT gets so much hate from the fandom is because she is not despicable enough. I'm pretty sure that if she was on a genocidal mission, she would have more fans.

There are definitely reasons behind Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon's behaviors, but that doesn't make their actions acceptable. I still like them as characters though (DT much more than SS).

*snip*

*snip*

I'd just like to point out that Diamond Tiara doesn't shoot a glare at Silver Spoon (or anypony else in the classroom at that moment in the episode); she just has a wide-eyed look like she was a bit surprised that Silver Spoon was applauding. Secondly, Silver Spoon stops applauding around the same time everypony else does (at least, that's what it sounds like).

I've always found Silver Spoon to be more sympathetic than Diamond Tiara at first glance, largely due to her reaction to Granny Smith's story in the classroom (she had a positive response as opposed to DT who was upset). Come the end of Granny Smith's story, DT is wearing the same awestruck face as both Apple Bloom and Silver Spoon (and the rest of the class). Then the applause happens, screen cuts away so that we can't see who is and isn't clapping (though I think it's a relatively safe assumption to say that DT probably wasn't applauding) and then Apple Bloom takes the opportunity to take a shot a DT which makes her insult Granny Smith in a desperate attempt at a comeback. I'm sure that had AB not rubbed her "victory" in DT's face, DT wouldn't have said a thing despite being upset about her father's presentation being upstaged spectacularly. I'd probably be a little upset too.

I feel like they bully becasue their boring. Don't get me wrong if they didn't have their cutie marks they would be lame. They bully because they are boring they have money whatever no pony pays attention to them, they think DT and SS are cool cause they make fun of everyone else or becaue they were scared a jerk would come to town and make them look like losers. But they do they don't have any adventures, that's why they bully CTC cause their jealous. NEPTUNE OUT

Well, I can also assume that perhaps Diamond Tiara had some sort of jealousy towards Apple Bloom that never had been explained, and then it escalated when Apple Bloom met with the other crusaders. Particularly at the scene when Diamond got upstaged at her own party. From experience, I can see why she might bully.

Parentage:

Filthy Rich obviously is her father, but we don't know how involved he really is or who he is as a character. We are assuming he's rather nice in comparison to his daughter, but who's to say behind closed doors he's not really just negligent? He's a business stallion, he might not realize that he really is putting his daughter off for a while. I get this feeling and I'm not rich. Maybe he's just not that parental and doesn't care. As the Simpson's put it:

[bart asking Nelson why he doesn't feel a thing when he does bad, no satisfaction of sorts. Nelson responds]

"If your parents aren't mad, are you really doing bad?"

In other words, I'm sure Diamond Tiara isn't really bullying ponies cause she wants to. I think its more because no one will acknowledge her.

Some people actually believe her cutie mark isn't real because of the timeline. "Silver Spoon has hers, and I just got mine last week." People are assuming that her cutie mark isn't really a diamond tiara and she might be a blank flank.People also thought that because of Nightmare Moon and Apple Bloom's sister being Honesty, Filthy Rich was more or less acknowledging the Apples more and more, causing her to "gain" a cutie mark.

Yes. This dislike is actually part of the reason they are the way they are. They're just envious of something that everyone else has that they don't. (Likely? Love.)

I know that people feel bad for these characters. I feel that Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon bully other fillies because, they feel misunderstood and they just want to feel like they matter. Usually bullies bully other people because, they either have issues at home or they have an issue with their parents in general. They feel that they want to shroud how they actually feel in mystery, while they take it out on the ponies. Maybe their respective parents love them but, they don't spend time with them while they are busy with business.
