music Dark and creepy horror music

In contrast to my love of colourful ponies and their happy adventures is my love of really dark and evil things, especially horror. The best way, of course, to get that kind of mood across is music. For the most part I love the more unsettling type of ambient music, though there are others.

Not sure if anyone else shares my level of enthusiasm for this kind of thing, but here it is.

This is exactly the kind of music I love on the ambient side of things;

I recently got into the Alice soundtrack too, though I've never actually played the game;

A lot of people hated the game but I actually don't despise it like most. I do love the soundtrack though. I think the music was pretty well made, as is expected in any Silent Hill game. :3 The vocal ones are more along dark; while the instrumentals are creepy. Just my personal opinion.

I actually quite liked Homecoming, it's not nearly as bad as everyone says it is. The soundtrack is undeniably good, as is to be expected from Akira Yamaoka, although it's not as good as the SH2 soundtrack.

Yea, you can't really have a creepy music thread without including Nurse With Wounds. That's some scary shit right there, screw your Video Game OST's

So far the only thing that annoyed me about Homecoming was how the game glitched and I had to start completely over. I don't really mind though. :3  All the hatred of the game seems kind of annoying to me, it's all the same thing: glitches, it's different from the others, bad graphics, the usual. :/

Also, try combining Homecoming's soundtrack with rainymood.com, it sounds amazing. .-.

Silent Hill 2's soundtrack was pretty good; I don't think there's been a bad soundtrack to the series; hopefully they keep that up.

I also liked Silent Hill 3's soundtrack,

@ Soundgarden

That....is.....awesome!!

It's the weirdest, creepiest thing I've ever heard, and I love it. It's actually quite uncomfortable to listen to it.

I can't compete with that. (Not that this was a competition.)

@ WheatleyCore

I've never played Silent Hill 3 before, I really need to get my hands on it.

Another great soundtrack by Yamaoka is the one for Shadows of the Damned.

I honestly use the HD Collection for Xbox 360 to play it. (Oh god everyone is going to hate me now. xD) People managed to complain about that as well, but once again, I enjoyed it. :3 I started it, but I need to finish it; I recall watching a youtube playthrough, though. :3

Well, the complaints about the HD collection are all very valid, they did totally screw it up. But, I guess if it's your only option you take what you can get.

Here's a pretty creepy song, crying babies and all;

Forbidden Siren is a very underrated game, it had great atmosphere and tension, though it doesn't hold up too well;

How about some Electric Wizard? Because what doesn't say dark and scary like a band that sings about the occult and makkes references to HP Lovecraft? http://youtube.com/watch?v=3NnQMO7rHVU

your Video Game OST's

Yea, you tell them sister! I never understood why people like video game OSTs, they're just really meh whatever for me. Same with movie OSTs.

Incoming Dark Ambient music, this album is definitely one great album within the world of Dark Ambient, not my personal favorite album by Aphex Twin, but still a great Dark Ambient album

Also this album which released this year is a pretty good one too

Just as a heads up, this thread might get merged with this one.

I could probably spend all day listing the most hair-raising tracks put out by Slayer or something, but as far as bona fide horror music goes, I'd go with the original Silent Hill's soundtrack. With its highly ambient nature, it hits the nail right on the head in terms of complimenting the game's atmosphere. If you're one of those people who decks out their house for Halloween, consider blasting some of this shit in your front yard:

Hm... In the concept of unsettling songs, I can only bring up one. That one is the Shadow Temple theme, from the N64 game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Perhaps it's not THAT creepy or anything, but since I played this game when I was little, this song alone gave me a considerable amount of nightmares, specially considering the fact that it's not supposed to be a creepy game of any sorts... The atmosphere of the temple also adds up to the song pretty well~

And also, it's really the only one I can remember right now. :3

I'm just going to pretend you didn't say that about game OSTs.

Video game and movie OSTs are either boring or average. There, I said it.

Anyways, here's some Bathory, because I'm going to post some good music first before I receive a bunch of death threats via PM.

Not all of them are, there's only a few ones that I can listen to, and also they're meant for background noise, hence why they'd sound boring or average outside of the context of the game or movie.

Anyways I might as well post a bit more Dark Ambient

Sister? M'...kay?

To be fair, Video Game OST's were meant to be listened while playing the game, in order to set the tone for the game or a specific event within the game. Next level is a catacomb full of scary creatures? Add a scary OST and it makes the level a lot more engaging. Listen to that same OST while not playing the game, and it's boring as fuck

However, exceptions exist but around 99% of the exceptions are OST's from anime or japanese video games :VV

I'll use spoiler tags since it's kind of off topic

What about Alec Holowka's stuff that he did for a flash game known as Depict1

http://infiniteammo.bandcamp.com/track/depict1-sly

Sucks that I can't find a YouTube video for the song

Well I didn't say 100%, there are still good OST's outside of the Japanese media market. And that song you posted was good, nothing beyond spectacular but really good nonetheless

black noise can be pretty creepy. Way more creepy than some video game :V

>geetar music

>dark and ambient

I mean yeah some metal has been like that but I'd hardly say Electric Wizard fits that category.

So, this is not really creepy but more dark/depressing than anything (It actually reminds of a bit of Silent Hill); still I think Myuu does a pretty good job at creating instrumentals. Most of her songs do get put into MrCreepyPasta's videos (which I think helps set the mood in that respective Creepypasta).

I just posted because it's dark. Besides Aphex Twin, I haven't listened to much ambient stuff. Unless Burzum's occasional ambient songs counts.

I've really fallen in love with this dark ambient stuff, which I hadn't really listened to much before, I love discovering new music.

More game music! I don't care what anyone thinks but the majority of my favorite music is from game soundtracks, stuff that I do listen to all the time outside of the games themselves.
