movies/tv Movies That Changed Your Life

So, I was looking through my collection of DVD's/VHS/Laser Discs/Betamax Tapes, and I ran into a copy of "Requiem For A Dream. It got me thinking.
RFAD was one of those movies that really got me into serious, drama-oriented cinema, and also made me look at life, and human suffering from another angle.

Are there any movies that have had a significant impact on your life on an emotional, or some other level?

The Dark Knight really changed my life, it taught me a lesson that even when people aren't ready to accept you as a hero you can still save them from certain danger especially from a psychotic villain. So, a lesson like that can show you that '' A world like this with a villain to start believing in good.'' Pretty good change.

Network. I was going through a journalism program at the time and this movie spoke volumes to me despite the fact it was marketed as a comedy 37 years ago. This film is incredibly accurate to the point of being scary in describing the current state of the media industry and it was one of the factors that caused me to question whether I wanted to be a journalist or not.

Obviously I based my conclusion on more than just this movie, but it was the initial seed of doubt that caused me to change paths to something I couldn't imagine myself doing because of my poor high school math skills. It's definitely worth a watch.

I have ALOT of movies but I haven't really learned anything from most of them. Maybe Up counts. I learned that if I have a dream or something I've always wanted to do, I should never give up and that eventually even if I don't get where I want to go, it's the adventure that counts. You'll meet lots of friends and go through many experiences along the way, and that's what really matters. To Ellie her whole life with Carl was an adventure even if she never accomplished her dream, she enjoyed every moment of her life. Even if Carl never took his house personally to Paradise Falls, he sure had one heck of an adventure and made two new friends, so he could live the rest of his days happily. May sound cheesy but that's what I learned.

The original Wallace & Gromit shorts: They got me into animation (not just stop motion), which eventually led to my being a film buff today.

Star Wars: I had seen the prequels before, but the original captured my imagination like nothing had before. My second nerd obsession after I had gotten into the original 60's Spider-Man comics.

Okay, this next one is weird.

James Rolfe's Cinemasacre 200 video: It's basically a short documentary talking about how he's made movies throughout the years and all the challenges he had to overcome on individual projects. Inspired me to want to make movies himself.

No movie really changed my life at all. If this were about video games or TV, I could list a couple. But no movie has really changed me at all.

Well, you could say that the newest Star Trek movie got me somewhat into Star Trek, but not much.

I had to take a small amount of time to think back on movies from my childhood.. There are very few that actually changed my life, the Harry Potter series played a big part in my life. They didn't really change my life though, I guess I could say that the Fast and the furious series did. I was always extreamly interested in cars and I would always play a lot of car related video games, especially the underground series and most wanted. At that time I was developing interest for tuners, my favorite at the time was a dark blue Nissan 240 sx.

Then of course it was the Mazda RX7

So when I started watching the fast and the furious series at a young age. It just made my love for cars stronger, I was always more for tuners, because I had always been around a lot bigger vehicles I sort of fell for the sleek and nice looking japanese cars, I discovered my creative side through cars. I wanted to have my very own tuner that represented myself, have nitrous and race other people. I'm talking about the first Fast and the furious movies, when they were mostly into tuners. I don't remember my age, but it's obvious that it did have some effects on me. I was already interested in cars, it just introduced me to tuners at a very young age and while at the same time video games did too.

I'm not sure if it changed my life though, it sort of helped forming my life though. I wanted to drive a dark blue Subaru Impreza 99' (yeah I watched a lot of rally too, lol), heavily customized. I would daydream a lot about that car, I just wanted to look at peoples face as I would overtake them. That later resulted in me obsessing over technical details about cars. Sort of preparing to race in the future, had to know a lot about cars.. I did in the end, I was known throughout school for this knowledge. I was totally obsessed with cars, way too obsessed, it was at a point were people started to wonder about my sanity. lol I was such a nerd, all of this started because of my interest for tuners which started from video games and got stronger through movies that showed that it truly was possible. I was a daydreamer at school, all I wanted to do was to drive. This was of course not only because of the Fast and the furious series, it was also another movie I don't remember the name of and video games. While at the same time I was already interested in cars, so it just all clicked together making a truly overly obsessed car enthusiaist.. This obsession does take over your life, I have planned my whole life only around cars, no people included.. Might have to add that to the plan. It's an obsession that I love, if it wasn't for the series I would still have been obsessed. Just not with tuners that much, so thanks to video games, movies and how much time I spent around trucks when I was younger I became overly obsessed with cars, I became known for my obsession. I love cars! End of story. happy.png

Oh well when I first watched the original Friday the 13th Part I from 1980, I really loved it. (after that I saw part 2&3) That's when my huge interest in horror movies began

(though I was already a bit interested before, (I had watched tales from the crypt) but it took like a big leap here

um and I don't really know any movie that has affected my life much..

I'm going to go with Star Trek (2009). Not because it itself changed my life, but it led to to me watching the original series, which then led to The Next Generation, then Voyager, and so on... Star Trek occupies most of my thoughts and continues to be my "Number 1 Show", and probably always wil be.

"Interview with the Vampire" dramatically changed my opinion on life and death and the concepts they represent. Before watching it, I was always fascinated by the idea of immortality and I daresay even life as a vampire. Then I watched the film, read the book and it revolutionized my way of thinking on that matter and other concepts of similar nature. Louis's pain as he continued to live as others around him he'd grown to love kept dying, how it embittered him and detached him from those who lived, I began to think how immortality is no different than death.

Another movie which I think really served as an eye-opener is Koyaanisqatsi, which translates to "life out of balance" or "unbalanced life" in the Hopi language, which did a spectacular job at showcasing the beauty and ugliness of the modern lifestyle, how there are both good and bad things and nothing is as black and white as some people will make it out to be.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Harry Potter series definately changed my life. I wouldn't be this obsessed and fan-girly if it wasn't for Harry Potter. I probably would still be looking for a good movie/book. It also taught me about how important friendship is.

Many of them, actually. It seems like I'm a type of men who get affected by stories and movies a lot, but I will try to mention the ones I still remember.

Harry Potter. It changed me to be more, well, so many things. It left a strong effect on me, since it was just like the second novel I first read. The Wizard of Oz was very inspirational. What it taught me is kinda hard to say with words. It's like, do whatever I can do to make great changes, and believe in my own skills. I would recommend it to anyone interested in my opinions.

MLP isn't a movie, but it's where my serious life started. It ignited my spirit to learn and study. It gave my spirit to have fun back.

As you can see, I'm bad at expressing what I've learned from movies or stories, so I will just leave it here.

Wow, I consider myself a really big movie buff, I love finding classics and viewing them, but I have never seen Requiem for a Dream!!!!

I wish more people would call me ,"sir"....without adding, "You're making a scene".

When I first saw Hard Boiled back when I was 14. That was the first movie I ever watched subtitled, and subsequently was my introduction to Asian cinema. It remains one of my favorite movies to this day, John Woo is a great director and Chow Yun-Fat is a badass. A must-see for action fans, this film has the greatest shoot out scenes I've ever seen.

Eh? Nandatte?
