Opinions on the ending of Equestria Girls?

I am watching Equestria Girls again, and I find that i didn't really like the Demon-Monster thing that Sunset Shimmer became at the end of the movie. What are everypony's opinions on this?attachicon.gifevilsunsetshimmer.jpg

I didn't really like it. First off, you can't introduce a villain like that and take him out in the next 5 minutes. It would have been better if they simply gave her magical powers at that point instead of turning her into a demon thingy. Also, I didn't really understand the way Twilight said : "Hey, I'm actually a purple, talking alicorn princess from another dimension", and all her friends were just like: "Oh cool!, that's totally believeble". Anyway, it's still a film dedicated to younger audiences so I think I should give it a rest. The movie wasn't bad, it was still enjoyable. :P

Here are my two cents from the blog entry I am working on:

Why did Sunset Shimmer transform into a demon once she took the crown?

Most likely Sunset was possessed or at least occupied by an evil influence of some sort. The first thing that comes to mind is Yu-Gi-Oh when it was revealed that there are "two" Marik Ishtars: The real Marik and a Yami (dark) Marik that took hold of him due to the hatred and bitterness in his heart. In the end, Marik showed the same kind of remorse that Sunset did. Or it is possible that the crown itself isn't entirely good. A parallel can be seen in Transformers because the Autobot Matrix was sometimes possessed by Decepticons. The most notable instances were Scourge in the cartoon and Thunderwing in the comic. In each case, the Decepticon morphed into a hideously powerful creature bent on inflicting death and destruction.

Maybe Twilight has some inside knowledge (she was reading a lot of high level info about magic recently) and knew that Sunset wasn't exactly being herself.  Once blasted by the EOH, Twi knew Sunset was free of that corruption and was thus quick to forgive her.

I can't understand why twilight didn't become some kind of  an angel after wearing the crown herself :P

She did. She got nice feathery wings out of the deal. ;)

Seriously though, yes it messes with the established cannon around the Elements of Harmony, but there is a 'good' side effect of this though it's buried pretty deep.

Combine this with what happened in the Magical Mystery Cure episode, and it points out that the Elements of Harmony aren't as safe and user friendly as so far billed. There's a risk involved in using them, which all powerful magical artifacts need to have. The current bearers are so far using them properly and are able to get good effect out of them, but it seems that it's possible to use them 'wrongly' and get a completely different effect.

In which case, maybe it's not a matter of Celestia and Luna not being able to use the Elements at all anymore, but that there's a good chance they'll get unintended or 'bad' results out of using them.

We also need to remember this is a little kid's show!...if Sunset Shimmer was to look scary for us teens/adults, then she would utterly terrify children.

In what sad restrictive reality do you live where scaring kids is a terrible crime?

Anyway, the crown turned Twilight into a bloody alicorn. Why shouldn't it turn an evil wearer into something powerful too. And it did cross over from a parallel world. Everything else that crossed over changed.

Silly or out-of-place or whatever the demon thing was, the deus ex machina "friendship instantaneously redeems the villain because kids are idiots who will swallow that crap" thing with the villain was lousy either way.

This, when I was little I Din't want villains to be redeemed. when I liked them I wanted to see them do badass and evil stuff and when I hated them I wanted the good guy to beat them as merciless as possible. but never wanted them to be redeemed

I thought that scene was stupid as well.

How the hell did she turn from a bad guy to a good guy so fast?

I mean, it made no sense to me. :3

It made no sense to anyone because it was nonsensical. Same thing with Discord's 180. Thank goodness Chrysalis was evil 'til the end...

The ending wasn't really that great. Sunset Shimmer turning into her demon form was pretty unpredictable and it wasn't even scary. When she started to cry after she was defeated, I knew she would turn good since we have seen villains turn from evil to good in some cases. Luckily, we have some villains that are still evil.

I don't like how Sunset Shimmer turned from a menacing demon thingy to a crying girl wanting to reform, and be good. Is it only because she lost? How do we know she wasn't lying. If she beat the mane 6 do you really think she would've reformed?

Well I think that both the start and the ending of Equestria Girls felt very very rushed. It feels like Sunset Shimmer was defeated way too easily. Though it does feel like this for every single villain in MLP FiM. I also did not like how everything happened so sudden. I think there could have been many more things for us to see, plus, the ending where she came back to Equestria was terrible. What the hay? She just said that she had the crown and a few things? She barely told any of her friends or even Celestia what happened. Well, I guess we are supposed to think that she does ourselves, but this happens in far too mant movies and series, I want to know exactly what the characters tells about what has happened to them and stuff like that.

Though I will hope that we get to see maybe a little bit of this in the start of season 4. I doubt that, however.

I thought the ending was alright for what it was, but(and I am probably get some hate for this) I feel that Equestria Girls in its entirety, should have been a pilot to a spin off series as at least that would have gave these characters time to grow. The plot could have been, that Twilight was to late and missed the portal home, and now she has to either wait or find someway back, but in the mean time she has to deal with sunset shimmer who while no longer evil, may still be the school bully and heckle Twilight and her friends and also must learn more about the new would she is in while possible having to save the school from possible rivals that wish to ether control it or shut it down and these rivals could be human version of the villains that Twilight has faced in the past.

It was alright, but kind of a yawn. A game of catch followed by Sunset becoming a demon, followed by Twilight saying, "Well, ha, ha. You might have my uber-powerful crown thingy, but we have friendship. Joke's on you!" And then Twilight saves the day, and Sunset is given a wheelbarrow of bricks.

Still, I wish there would've been more ponies.

I think I liked the ending, I guess.. the ending was kind of weird. I hated how Sunset Shimmer looked. She didn't look scary nor frightening-- just ugly.

I thought the design was good, but the portrayel wasn't. The demon thing was actually very creepy, but I also felt it left a lot of unanswered questions that weren't answered due to the quick ending her character had.

  • 2 weeks later...

That was indeed quite strange for a "kids" show. haha just teasing! kids show haha... Anyways compared to most "kid" shows it was a pretty good ending in my opinion, lots of plot twists! But, yes that was kind of a creepy change for little miss pretty popular girl. I would have thought she would change then be like "EWWW WHAT HAPPENED!!" guess the power REALLY got to her. I would have given up right after that happened...

I really like it. What most people don't get, is it's suppose to represent the original show's premiere! Equestria Girls is basically just the humanized version of the Element of Harmony. They did a great job following that episode, and I thought the ending was just great.:)
