Yay the new badges are finally here.

And here I am stuck with this dusty old Royal Guard badge for all eternity... I still love the thing, I am kinda jealous though.

Anyway, this will certainly take some getting used to, I'm so used to seeing the old badges in the old order since I've been around them since the beginning... but I will get used to them, hopefully. Nice job on them Jokuc.

Finally! I was beginning to wonder if the new badges would ever roll out. Awesome new badges aside, we're finally rid of that ugly old belt buckle thing Brony badge. Making 3000 posts just to be called a brony made absolutely no sense. 

 

I'm a bit iffy about the Dragon badge, though. Even though ponies are supposed to be highest level, I find it a tad unfair for the dragons to be lumped with the animals. Sure, ponies and dragons both technically animals, but dragons are clearly sapient, and just as intelligent as ponies. I feel there should be another category for non-pony sapients, which would also give griffons a spot on the list. Alas, poor Spike

 

That aside, the new badges look really good. I'm honestly a bit jealous of the users who get them. Great job!

Thanks, and yeah, I agree. When the badges first came, I became a pegasus and well I have gotten used to that order. Now when I see someone with X signature, I will be like "wait is this signature after or before this signature.."

And I went from the pretty pegasus to the...okay earth pony. xD

And the highest is the unicorn!  Which is similar to my feelings about the earth pony.

I guess I'll never be one of those brony...things.

:3 Because I know I personally treat the big 'dumb' dragons like the one in the badge differently from Spike. They appear to be far more anamalistic than Spike is. You have to remember Spike is an exception to the dragon norm because he was raised by ponies. Dragons, even the teenage ones that talked, were generally far less endearing and overall intelligent in comparison to pretty much all ponies we've seen (minus exceptions like Snips and Snails).

Even though the dragons are barbaric, they're significantly more intelligent than birds. That Spike is even capable of acting like a pony means that dragons aren't inherently brutes. YEAH  a step closer to equal rights for the scaled ones. And an actual real reason to spam all the forum until I get my foretold  status. Also i dont know if this is even posible but as a suggestion maybe the users could decide what badge to wear from those acquired just saying (cause when i get the dragon i dont want another one)

Another reason Dragon was chosen was because it looks and appears very similar to the Phoniex rank. Whether or not Dragon is better than Phoniex as a species is individual preference, but it's supposed to be a symbolic advancement

The dragon's placement after Phoenix is fine. My complaint is that it's lumped into the same category as the animals, which is what makes the Griffon out of place in the hierarchy. Meh, this is good for what it is, I guess I am not in a very enthusiastic mood. Plus, I would have preferred being a pony at 1,000 instead a dragon. Maybe have 900 be dragon, then 1,000 be pony, but that is just my opinion.

 

Still, they look nice. This just isn't too big of a deal for me, on both ends of the spectrum.

We should also remember that Spike's differences could be due to him being hatched via magic instead of just hatching.

 

Also, instead of a new badge at 10,000, users with 10,000+ posts should get the option to choose any of the past badges, but have a star behind the icon or something to still set them apart. And staff should always have this option (I really want the Changeling badge ).

There's also the fact that, such an argument coming up just now is completely and utterly redundant, seeing as how Unicorn has always been above the Pony and Pegasus ranks, and no one ever seemed to care before It's just brought up now because Unicorn happens to be the highest rank at the moment with the brony badges gone. To me, that seems more like an effort to try and find something wrong with something previously accepted, just because change occurred of some kind. I've found this to be rather common human nature x.x;

 

But regardless, yes, there are indeed battles worth fighting, and then there are those that aren't :3

I rushed to this thread after suddenly seeing a Crystal Pony badge on someone in another thread.

 

I have a feeling like I was supposed to join everyone else in commenting on the changes in badges they received. Then I realised I still have the BronyCon Supporters badge... so hey

 

On a real, though, those are damn good. Like. Jokuc is probably a clone of Nico or something. Can't wait to see how it looks once this badge expires. Great work n.n

Agreed, though I would like another badge for 10k too. About the badge chosing I think Feld0 have said that it is not possible or something, idk :v

Aye, after reviewing this at a time that is not near midnight and not in a state near death by exhaustion, I have come across a problem I see. I do know it's been discussed before, but here we go.

 

As it's always been, we have Pony < Pegasus < Unicorn. I'm perfectly fine with that, that's how it's always been and, more selfishly, that's about how I view the ponies in terms of best-iness. However, I don't agree with Unicorn being the top rank now. Is it really such a big deal to add another 10,000? Realistically, I wouldn't want to be stuck with a Unicorn badge forever if I so happened to get that many posts for mainly two reasons. One, previously there were higher badges beforehand and two, I don't think it's the best idea to put any sort of normal pony as the final goal to achieve. I'd prefer it to be something with  a bit more of a novelty aspect to it (say, Crystal Pony?), and that doesn't create as much of a "UNICORN MASTER RACE" superiority/inferiority complex. I know that's how it's always been, but back then it wasn't the final badge. As ugly as it was, the Certified Brony badge really showed that you /HAD/ to be an upstanding member of the community and it was iconic and not really associated with any lower badges than it (spare for Brony, but that's another high-level badge).

 

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter though I would hope that at least /something/ is done to help this.

 

EDIT: Also, I find Crystal Pony to be out of place, really. As we've seen in show, any pony race can be Crystal Pony, and it's not (in my mind, at least) one of the core 3 (4 if you include Alicorn -_- ) races of pone. It seems a bit strange to put that in between Pony and Pegasus, especially since pegasi, unicorns, earth ponies, and (I THINK) alicorns are crystal ponies, or can become crystal ponies like in the end of Crystal Empire.

I concur, we all know the crystal ponies are far supperior! But seriously, unicorns have always been the higher ranked badge; nothing has really changed in that regard.
Whats a bit odd to me is the dragon, why is a dragon lower than ponies?

I may find myself agreeing with you there, perhaps Alicorn should be the final badge? Or maybe Princess?

 

And for the sake of argument I don't belive we seen any crystal ponies that weren't Earth Ponies, with the exceptions of the Mane 6, Cadance and Shining, all the inhabitants of the Crystal Empire we've seen have been Earth Ponies. So perhaps non-Earth Pony Crystal Ponies don't occur naturally.
