Hey guys,

So I was thinking of all the great cartoons out there over the years and it got me to thinking, who are the greatest cartoon characters over the years? There are many unforgetable and very funny cartoons characters but I can only think of two when the words "Greatest Cartoon Characters ever." And those two characters are:

img-1736086-1-220px-EricCartman.pngEric Cartman

and

img-1736086-2-Homer_Simpson_Vector_by_baHomer Simpson

These two charcters are the greatest characters, because they are from highly succesful cartoons and two of the funniest and most reconizable characters out there.

So, who in your opinion are the greatest cartoon characters out there? Post below and give a reason! :)

P.S. I didn't post any ponies because in my opinion the ponies are not some of the greatest characters ever.

Courage the Cowardly Dog.

post-14670-0-67513900-1376154770_thumb.jpg

Easily the funniest cartoon I've ever seen. Recognition and success of the franchise don't mean much to me. This little guy is my favorite because he never fails to make me laugh.

Just as a bonus, here's a cartoon that (apparently) was watched by me and me alone: Here Comes the Grump. It was a bizzare late 70's ball of psychedelic strangeness. (It was also really funny - and, no, I didn't watch it in the 70's. It was on Saturday morning reruns on some obscure channel when I was growing up.)

As per the wikipedia entry:

"The main character was a small, grumpy wizard who put a spell of melancholy on the kingdom of the Princess Dawn. The Princess and her friend Terry Dexter (a boy from the "real" world) searched for the Cave of the Whispering Orchids to find a crystal key to break the spell, while the Grump tried to stop them. In each episode the Grump flew a dragon named Dingo, chasing Terry and Princess Dawn. This led them to bizarre places with strange characters, such as the Blabbermouth of Echo Island, where the mountains were made of living Swiss cheese."

The Grump and Dingo:

Princess Dawn, Terry and the princess's pet dog-ish-thing Bip:

Count Duckula. All the way.

Who doesn't love a vegetarian vampire duck, with a teleporting castle? Plus it is British, which is a plus at least for me.

Futurama and Rocko modern life. Futurama because it's funny and has feels. Rocko because it was funny and pushed the limits for a Nickelodean show.

Oh, and I must not forget Dick Dastardly and Muttley from Dick Dastardly ad his Flying Machines, or Taz from Taz in Tasmania, all of the Wombles, the crew of Willo the Wisp... I should stop before I spontaneously revert to a three year old.

Oh yeah, and Caspar the Friendly Ghost.

Uhm, PInkie Pie. Happy character, funny, and joyful. I just love her spirit-full character.

Pinkie_Pie_Happy_S1E4.png

Fluttershy, for being too cute. I think Cartman, Homer, are also good characters too.  I mean their shows have had so much success and are still going. Scar from FMA, Trafalgar Law, are badass cool characters. I'm sure you can find a whole bunch of characters that deserve to be in this thread.

Peter Griffon from Family Guy is probably one of the most recognizable.  Even if your not a fan of the show you know at least what he looks like.

Popeye, everyone who thinks of spinach will probably think of Popeye. (if you've seen the show at least.)

Bugs Bunny, heck all the Looney Tunes, I mean really.

Have to have Mickey Mouse mentioned here too.

Scooby-Doo

The cast of the Simpsons of course

As for more modern cartoons, I think characters from shows like Adventure Time, Futurama, and of course My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will endure and be remembered timelessly, of course only time itself will tell though.

No matter what your opinion is, you have all probably heard of Spongebob. That show used to be the bomb, damn movie and everything after. When I think of cartoons, one of the first things to pop into my head is Spongebob, so yeah, he deserves recognition.

179434.jpg

Batman, from Batman: The Animated Series. Talk about a  good dark semi kids cartoon. It didn't sugar coat much. I actually remember seeing some of these episode way back when I was like 6-9? That memorable. Probably the best version of Batman we will ever see. Show is also critically acclaimed and spawned the entire DCAU so yeah.

batman_animated_series.jpg

There are more, but I'm rushed on time so I'll just leave it at this for now.

For me, it would be the following:

The Mane 6 from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

img-1736707-1-500px-Mane_6_by_mihaaaa-d4

They're all great, and very memorable and likable. And I love how three-dimensional they all are.

Mystery Incorporated from All Scooby Doo Shows

img-1736707-2-1016391_427125004051323_10

Fred, Velma, Daphne, Scooby Doo, and Shaggy are all great characters, and very memorable. Almost everyone I know knows who they are, and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people I don't know who don't know them.

Homer Simpson from The Simpsons

img-1736707-3-homer616.jpg

Pretty much everyone recognizes him instantly, and he is an hilarious and memorable yellow character.

They're are probably more, but I can't think of any more right now. I'll add some more if I think of any more later.

I came in here to post Dexter from Dexter's Lab because I thought the topic said "Cartoon Network" for a second there but since not.....

I gotta agree with Coop from Megas XLR too though.

In most recent times, and I'll assume that anime and cartoons are separate for the sake of this conversation, I gotta say Mister Krabs, Squidward and the Flying Dutchman from Spongebob Squarepants. Krabs and Squidward because they are both kind of a mixture of what I'll probably be when I'm in my 40s and the Flying Dutchman just cuz he's a badass.

First cartoon characters that come to mind are Bugs Bunny and all of the Looney Tunes because they all have a legacy,

Spongebob because the show did use to be good before the movie and because he's one of the media's most recognizable cartoon characters,

Courage YAY!!

Dexter and Dee Dee

FLAPJACK AND CHOWDER!!

Gotcha!! The last two were a total joke they're idiots ;)

I haven't watched cartoons other than anime for a long time, but I will give it a shot.

Characters I liked were:

-Danny Phantom from Danny Phantom

-The regular fishes in Spongebob who love screaming "MY LEG!"

-Numbah 3 from Kids Next Door

-Chowder from Chowder

-Robin from Teen Titans

-Cyborg from Teen Titans

And now, for possibly the coolest Cartoon Character:

CHEESE FROM FOSTERS HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS

I. HAVE. A. CARROT!!!

That is unbelievably general.

If I were to go with most iconic, there's no competition to Micky Mouse.

If I were to go with my favorite character I've known forever, it'd be Ducky from The Land Before Time movies.

If I go with first cartoon crush, it's probably Erika from Pokémon, or Mini-Moon from Sailor Moon (I was her age, shush. Also, that'd be a REALLY weird definition of greatest, but it fits here better than any other thread I've seen so far. :P)

If I go with most inspiring character, simply because of nostalgia, I'd probably say the Gang of Five from The Land Before Time. They were kids, and they ventured across the countryside aided by only a few general hints about their destination. They overcame prejudices and personal hatred to become a safe and stable team that won against all odds.

I'm sure I have others, but I'm bad at these superlatives. Lol.

Well.. Here we go..

Wile E. Coyote - Up there with Charlie Chaplin as one of the masters of silent humour.

post-17521-0-93456200-1376268805.jpg

Pinkie Pie - She's hilarious, optimistic, a lover of life, and aims to make everyone happy.

post-17521-0-37055500-1376268847_thumb.png

Mabel Pines - Generally the same as Pinkie Pie, only slightly more insane.. She's just great to watch.

post-17521-0-57199900-1376268839_thumb.png

Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy - It's always fun to watch the schemes they come up with and how they backfire.post-17521-0-69027000-1376268825_thumb.jpg

Every character in Animaniacs - Incredibly memorable, a joy to watch, and (most importantly) absolutely hilarious..

The freakin power puffs! This cartoon cracks me up so much. The characters are good too. They all have a great sense of humor. post-18605-0-05747300-1378017123.jpg

Courage the Cowardly Dog
I don't know why, but it seems my favorite cartoons are old. Courage Is easily a show I'd watch anytime, anywhere.post-18605-0-72139600-1378017211.jpg

Regular Show
Ok seriously? This show is so funny. I like the plot of every episode. Entertaining, and humorous.post-18605-0-38254500-1378017318.jpg

Scooby Doo
I watched this all the time when I was a little dude. I still do watch it sometimes. This show is really entertaining.post-18605-0-15558000-1378017402.jpg

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Hilarious, entertaining, huge fandom, tons more. Too lazy.

post-18605-0-93231400-1377221991.jpg

Chosen Character(s)

PPG:
Blossom. Blossom was always my favorite character in the show. I liked how responsible and funny she was.

Courage:
Courage. Courage had a great sense of humor and always got scared. His voice acting was excellent, and each episode was awesome. Only one freaked me out. xD

Regular Show:

Mordecai. "You pissed me off." I didn't expect that to be put into a Cartoon Network series. It cracked me up to hear it in the series.

Scooby Doo:

Shaggy. I like shaggy the most because I like the things he says. "Zoinks" and I also like how he eats Scooby snack too.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

All of them. uMaD bro? All of the characters deserved to be honored. Except for Spike. I hate spike.

Spike = Forever alone. xD jk

But I still hate spike.

Also...

Personally, I thought he was absolutely adorable, plus I could also relate to him from time to time.
