just wondering how others may feel about this. Dose anyone else see a golden opportunity for Hasbro to completely redefine gender rolls for an entire generation? (might be an exaggeration :derp: ) what i'm getting at is there should be more Female characters in Transformers. this is something transformers fans have been wanting for a long time now and TF prime did an amazing job with Arcee and Airachnid but i think there should be more in each faction not just the one on each side. i know a lot of girls who also love Transformers but i think in much the same way MLP FIM has broken a gender barrier so too can Transformers. i would like too see a time when MLP is no longer seen ans a girls cartoon but rather just a fantasy adventure comedy and Transformers not seen as a boys cartoon but simply a great scifi series.

i just think Hasbro has a great opportunity here to strip away gender definitions in their properties n feeing a generation to simply like what they like without a gender based expectation.

They could, but I don't think they won't. With Hasbro, it's all about the money from toys, and adding girl characters for a boy intended franchise might not sell well. Just my thought.

Being a Transformers collector/fan too and having known Hasbro's methods and such for a long time, I can safely say that they don't care about redefining gender roles. Sure, they include the Brony audience in their marketing to some extent, but that's purely to make more money.

I doubt they'd go out of their way to introduce more female characters and such, while potentially turning off younger male audiences.

Also, it wasn't Hasbro that made MLP appealing to older viewers, it was Lauren and her team. The Transformers teams have never experimented with something like that, and I'm not sure if Hasbro would be willing to give them more creative freedom.

Hasbro is a stock company. Those don't take risks for something that is "just" an idealistic motif, even if it could let them make money. Classic role model propagation is a sure bet.

Don'´t forget: It also depends on a show's writers what happens; that's the reason why FiM is anything but that girly and actually acts against role models in some way. Not Hasbro.

It's not Hasbro who does most of the creative work. It's more like "I will fund you're creativity if you give me X amount of the profit" and of-course they always have the final say in what they want to air. There interest is to make money off of franchises, not really redefine anything, which is actually good. If they were going to try and commit to doing that they'd go bankrupt real fast.

valid points Hasbro is about the money but they love to throw fans a bone from time to time. examples being the entire classics line, all updated incarnations of the gen-1 line this was most certainly intended for the older fans and we are also getting an official brushable Derpy figure in a toys r us exclusive set. so I could see Hasbro cutting back on the gender stereotypes if they thought it would widen their customer base and make them more money ^_^

Let's be honest. The main characters for Transformers are robots. It's just 'presentation' anyway, so many of those robots might be effectively 'female' for all you know. It's not like robots have actual genders.

thats very true. its more of a personality thing that any true gender distinction.

I think this is born more out of a desire for feminine Transformers figures. i remember being 6yrs old and bothered by the fact that there was no figure of Arcee from the original movie and i'm sure that fueled this desire in me ever scene.

Sounds similar to a conversation me and some Kaijudo players had in terms of WOTC and Hasbro marketing the Kaijudo game and show better and we came to this conclusion which also applies to the topic here

Hasbro will not make any such push unless they know they can profit. In this case, doing such things wouldn't help their business one bit and isn't a guarantee to bring more revenue in.

There's no problem in society with girls liking boys shows, it's the opposite in fact, it EMBRACES girls liking boy things. The issue is the double standard where if a guy does the same and enjoys a girls show, he's seen as creepy or mentally unsound(with a couple exceptions).

There's not a barrier as much a stubborn one way wall that lets one side of the debate rush on though while beating back the other.
