Whose The Bigger Devil In Equestrian Myth: Nightmare Moon, Discord Or Sombra?

Totally Discord. His defeat marked the beginning of Equestria's history as we know it, and he represents the most fundamental opposite to Equestrian philosophy. And more interestingly, just as we cannot live without sin, harmony and happiness cannot exist without a little chaos.

 

Now that I think of it, Discord reformation storyline is a lot more awesome when you think of it as the heroes trying to reform the Devil.

 

Sombra really isn't the legendary monster that serves as some moral example to the ponies. He's just horrible dictator.

 

Nightmare may count as somebody like the Devil, but Discord just fits better.

I went for Nightmare Moon, mostly because of the way your question is phrased. Who is the bigger devil in Equestrian myth?

 

Well, most ponies had forgotten Sombra ever existed.

 

Discord was basically forgotten, not even recognized by Cheerilee, who seemed to readily believe that Discord was truly a statue, saying, "This statue represents "Discord", which means a lack of harmony between ponies." She didn't say 'This statue used to be a creature named Discord, who spread chaos and disharmony between ponies.' So she didn't seem to know he was real.

 

But Nightmare Moon, she was a story told to foals when they were bad! Everypony knew Nightmare Moon, so she had become basically the devil of Equestria.

 

However if I was asked, 'Which is villain is most like the devil?', I would have said Sombra.

Well, with King Sombra; he was very evil, and did horrible things, but his acts were mostly kept under wraps, and the only ponies who really knew about him lived in The Crystal Empire, and they were too weak from King Sombra's actions against them to fight back. So, because of this, I don't think King Sombra is the most feared devil in Equestria.

 

As for Discord;yes, he can do horrible things, but he really isn't that well-known. I mean, none of the students in the Season 2 premiere episode knew who he was, and their reactions don't suggest he was a feared individual in Equestria.

 

Which leads me to why I choose Nightmare Moon. Yes, she did devilish things just like the previous villains mentioned. However, the thing that separates her from them is the fact that she is extremely well-known in Equestria, and extremely feared. During "Luna Eclipsed," everyone in town immediately started cowering as soon as she appeared. They also told stories about her to make others fear her. When Discord showed up during "Keep Calm and Flutter On," no one seemed to notice or care that Discord was in town.

 

So, I think I'm going to choose for Nightmare Moon for this. She is infamous throughout Equestria, and the fact that she started out as one of the princesses of Equestria probably made her transformation more traumatic to the citizens of Equestria.

I think sombra is the devil because discord was evil but now he is good and if you have watched the first and second episode you would see that nightmare moon is a bit good hearted she is not so evil that she wanted to kidnap someone likediscord did when he turned the world upside down my answer

I would have to say Discord AND Nightmare Moon. Discord merely because he successfully had equestria plunged in chaos years before the two sisters defeated him.He came first, then order came, so he's the most "devil like"
Nightmare moon tried to rise and was quickly defeated by Celestia. She was a temporary issue, not an ongoing one like discord was in the time before Harmony. Nightmare moon is comparable to a corrupt angel who was eventually restored. Still, she probably had the most myths surrounding her. So discord is most like a devil, nightmare moon has the most myths about her.

Sombra is lame, he didn't threaten all of equestria, he threatened one city (i hesitate to call it an empire). Also the problem with calling him a part of "equestrian myth" is the fact that not even Twilight (only pony who knew of NMM's return) had ever heard of the Crystal Empire. It was a total coverup, the only two people aware of the existence of the Crystal Empire was Celestia and Luna. Luna was gone for a thousand years, so for a thousand years, only one person knew who Sombra was.

So basically, Sombra was more like Hitler if the Holocaust was a massive cover up conspiracy.

Nightmare Moon seems much less obscure than Discord and Sombra, so while I would lean towards Discord because he's the most diabolical of the bunch nopony in the series seems to recognise him. In "Return of Harmony," for instance, Celestia had to tell the Mane 6 who Discord was, what he did, and when he started manipulating the world around him nopony else seemed to have any idea what was happening. In the first episode(s), however, everyone recognised Nightmare Moon, and even the mere sight of Luna in her normal form still provoked fear from Ponyville's residents.

 

TL;DR: Nightmare Moon because nopony knows about the other two.

Nightmare Moon would have to be the one that was most known, if not most feared. But, as Twilight was the only one scared BEFORE Nightmare Moon was released, that's one-up on all the other ones already. Nobody had heard of or was scared of King Sombra or Discord before they got unleashed, because how can you be scared of something you don't know exists?

Discord is not necessary evil. He does things for his own amusement and that is all. He's more like a genie run amuck. He really never causes physical harm to those around him and he also seems to have his own standards "I don't turn ponies into stone!"

Also about the "he only wanted to take over one city" part. Did you even WATCH the episode? Celestia stated when talking about the crystal heart that if its filled with happiness it spreads happiness across equestria, if its spread with fear she paused, you know most of the time in a cartoon when someone pauses it means that its so dark that it can't be mentioned because of rhe children. So using that scene We can tell that Sombra wanted to take over equestria but with a plan, first take over the empire and then mindraoe the crystal ponies so that the heart will have negative feels in it and then when the crystal heart weakens Equestria he could take over. Seriosuly you need to read in between the lines

Well, Nightmare Moon! Mainly speaking, its more "realistic" than the others. She was something more that shocked everypony probably. The Moon's supposed to protect, show us light and guide us. The whole premise of eternal night, a nightmare from the moon itself, and that even the protectors can fall really sends a shock wave. Plus, we all have that feeling she gets, but hers became something more. They wouldn't "picture" Sombra to take hold or perhaps a person like Discord, but a pony who's supposed to rule and save you in your time of need, to protect you in the night, and view your dreams, and they turn dark, that's a whole other story.

It's funny, because with each villain's introduction to the series, it looked like a complex game of dominoes. Nightmare Moon was originally the big threat, then it was Discord, then it was Sombra. "Who's next?!" says I.

 

Regarding the question, I'd say Sombra is the bigger devil in Equestria. There's probably so much power in him that we haven't seen, and for all we know, it may even reach the levels of "unspeakable"
