MichaelxXxTrixie 433 September 20, 2013 #2 Share September 20, 2013 If you have the money to spill into it. Then of-course, it's a great MMO with great content. It's still running pretty strong after-all this time so it must be good. 2 Thanks to the lovely Pink Mist for the magnificent signature!
Scootalove 10,689 September 20, 2013 #3 Share September 20, 2013 I think you should get the game because, of the open world mechanics. It has a lot of good content, so you can give it a try if you want. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Celtore 2,770 September 20, 2013 #4 Share September 20, 2013 (edited) I'd say it's definitely worth playing if you have a few friends that also play it with you. That's when you have the most fun in any mmorpg and really get what you pay for. I couldn't recommend any other mmo right now over WoW though. Blizzard doesn't do everything perfectly and the game is showing a little age, but they do a lot of things right and act with professionalism. Sky Warden 2,243 September 20, 2013 #5 Share September 20, 2013 (edited) About the game, it's one of the MMORPG masterpieces. Rich content, many players, explorable world, fascinating game mechanics. I will play if I have friends who do, but since I don't, I won't. About should you play it, I don't know. MMORPG has lost its soul these days. They're just MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Game) instead of MMORPG(Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). All you may get is a lifeless levelling schedule and mindless monotone activities, instead of a massive role play with many people and have an adventure with players who are online in a massive number. Hazardus-Havard V.2 27 September 20, 2013 #6 Share September 20, 2013 I used to play WoW for a good few months with my friends. It was a blast playing with them and we soon leveled up our characters, going through raids and such. I preferred healing over most of the fighting, definite favorite class. Once they stopped playing for one reason or the other, I attempted to continue on. It is not an enjoyable game without friends, I found. I definitely prefer playing with others since we made up much of the stories, goofing off and having fun. Without them, you sort of realize you're doing nothing but killing X amount of creatures and turning the quest in, only to do the same thing ten minutes later. Or maybe you're collecting X amount of items, and once more, turning that in. It's dull, repetitive, and unless you're a die hard fan of the franchise, will get boring very soon. Yes, there are interesting things to still find, but you'll do nothing but have kill/collect quests the entire way. I've played other games with them later on. A good game to try out is Star Wars The Old Republic Online. It's not only free completely, but you can play full campaigns by yourself that are very interesting and extremely long for each one (it's even got that Mass Effect style of character decision making, so you can choose to be good, bad, or neutral!). My favorite was the bounty hunter class, and once more, healing. It's got so many unique things about it like the family class system to customization of armor and weapons. And while this game does have kill/collect quests, they tune them in a way that has each of them being extremely unique (it also helps that you go from world to world, so it's very varied on what you kill and collect instead of having nothing but recolored enemies in each place to kill for the next quest). You can still play with friends in that game as well and have huge parties or, and this is my favorite part, invite them to your own ship and travel with you! If you ever want to take your character and fight them against others or go on fun online fights, that's when the monthly subscription comes into play. The subscription still comes with other things of course and it's still a very cheap subscription, so I think it's a very fair deal. Practice makes perfect; but if nobody's perfect, why practice? http://hazardus-hava...eviantart.com/ Art http://www.fimfictio...lks-amongst-us Story
TheMangoPony 146 September 20, 2013 #7 Share September 20, 2013 It's an amazing game, but I'm sure you already know it can be ridiculously addictive, especially once you hit max level. If you've ever played an mmo though you know what you're getting yourself into. Then again not everyone gets completely addicted like I did, lol. But yeah, I recommend it for sure. Awesome game, and the best MMO I've played. I also recommend being a Tank or a Healer, since you'll almost never have to wait for a dungeon if you do. Some of my favorite video game memories come from that game, that's for sure. I'd still be playing it if it wasn't for the fact that I've been enjoying daylight, outside, and my social life a lot lately, haha.
QuirkyUsername 1,576 September 20, 2013 #8 Share September 20, 2013 I'd say go with the free first month (I assume its still a thing was when I joined) if you enjoy it enough to keep playing by all means upgrade to a real account and get the expansions but if you don't like it then I doubt you will in the future. I didn't find any difference between early game and late game aside from difficulty increase 1 This adorable ball of glorious fluff that is my avatar is the creation of the glamorous Laika Hey so Johari
Wonderbolt_Spitfire 235 September 20, 2013 #9 Share September 20, 2013 It honestly depends on what your looking for in a game. If you have never played it before then It is very tough to level without friends (by tough I mean boring). Also keep in mind that you will probably have to spend another $40 within the next 6 months for the next expansion (If you decide you want to stick with the game). I have been playing the game for over 6 years now. Numerous times I have taken breaks to stop playing because it either wasn't fun or real life came into the picture. I have to say that the game is honestly at its best, but I don't enjoy it so I stopped my sub and started playing their card game instead I think WoW is a great game that everyone should at least play once so if you haven't played it I hope you choose to do so. Sig made by me. Surprisingly it came out somewhat decent.
SkyBound 829 September 20, 2013 #10 Share September 20, 2013 Just so you know, since this thread has no original artwork and is rather more of a discussion than anything else, I have gone ahead and move it to the Media Discussion section as it is more appropriate for this topic. As for the game itself, I have never really played it with the exception of a trial version several years ago. To me, it was quite boring and repetitive with a lot of grinding but I have been assured that once you reach a certain level and you have friends to play with, it can be quite an enjoyable experience. I know the game has several expansions and a plethora of content to explore, so if you find the game appealing in anyway and you have friends that can join you, it may certainly be worth a look for you. Thuja 3,659 September 20, 2013 #12 Share September 20, 2013 If you're not sure about whether or not to get the game, try the trial before deciding to get it. Personally, I lost interest in it after a while. I'm usually a solo player though and something like an MMO might not always appeal to me. If you are interested in getting the game, I still would suggest checking out the demo first. If you like the demo, try to keep an eye out for the "Battle chests" that has the base game and one or two of the expansion packs. Those things can be expensive by themselves... ASocialyAwkwardPony 299 September 20, 2013 #13 Share September 20, 2013 As someone who played it for like 6 years before quitting, I will tell you: no, don't play it. It's way too expensive in a day and age where free to play MMO's is the norm, the gameplay is designed to make you feel committed to play it every day and the community is truly awful. As Yatzhee said it, it's a good game technically, but it's also pure evil.

Make great 'friends' to get wealth in the game and be strongest in the realm. It's nearly the same. You level up, join a guild full of people who play for level, fancy equipments, and gold whose purpose is only to reach the highest point in the game. That's not Role Play. The only MMO where I've had real adventure and real friends in, was only Ragnarok Online. Rohan, Seal, RF, etc, weren't really role plays. Pinkeh asked me to put this here. Lateon 589 September 21, 2013 #15 Share September 21, 2013 (edited) Ahhhh who cares about the whole RP part of WoW, anyhow? Sure, people can do it, but that's what the RP servers are for. Me? I play on a Normal server. It's pretty desolate (Drenden-US), but it's okay, I guess. The new merged realm business sort of makes server identity irrelevant anyway. I've been playing this game for about 7 years, now. Yeah, that's right. October of 2006. Not the longest some people have been around, but I've stuck with it. I was a wee lad of 12 years old, then. And let me tell you, I haven't run out of stuff to do. Now, I attribute the first two years of play to not really amounting to anything, because I was too young to understand the concepts of endgame very well, nor was I very good. So, you could say that I started to get serious about playing the game when I first created my DK in January of 2009. I joined the guild I'm currently in in July of that year as well. Why do I tell you this? Because to me, the soul of the game lies in making lasting friends that you can talk to and have fun with. Whether it be raiding with these fine folks twice or three times a week, depending on the guild, or just talking to them while experiencing new zones, races, and classes while leveling up - it makes for a much more enjoyable experience. I also find it enjoyable to research my class' mechanics, as well as the fights/encounters that I along with my guildmates will be facing in the coming weeks. It allows me to become the best that I can, and it allows me to help my guild succeed. The only problem I could see with an absolute new player is the price of admission, and potential toxicity in the "random" community, as it were. Everyone assumes you know how to play your class, even at low levels. While this is rather unreasonable, there really isn't an excuse for you to suck at the game at max level - after all, you got there yourself, so you have to know at least a little bit about generalized mechanics like "don't stand in the fire," right? Most of the time, you can just ignore these people. You might get kicked from a couple of groups if you do exceptionally poorly, but hey, that's a learning curve for ya. To sum up: - I like WoW because of my guild's steady progression through the endgame all while being a semi-friendly, semi-serious, semi-let's-be-dicks-to-each-other environment. - The almost limitless paths you can take when playing each new character is also appealing, as well as overall story arcs of each zone. - At the end of the day, I feel like I accomplished something. Whether it just be a few little things like "I did my dailies today," or "I did LFR or Flex raid today and got two new pieces of gear!" - I always feel like I progressed my character towards my goal of defeating the endgame content with my guild. - The price is rather steep for a brand new player - the game itself in addition to it's four expansions isn't cheap. - The community can be a downer at times. Don't give up, though - there's always plenty of opportunity to improve your play and get into a great guild. )O( Scarlet )O( 1,259 September 21, 2013 #16 Share September 21, 2013 I would suggest getting a trial account first, before buying it. The worst thing you can do is buy the whole lot (Classic + all the expansions + extra game time) then find out that you don't like it. I've done that a few times, and I facehoof all the time. When it comes to things like games, it's really up to the individual if they like it or not. So instead of relying on other people's opinions on it, so, to me, the best thing to do is to get a trial account (when possible) and try it before you buy it. A good idea, in theory, and one that should be practiced in any other medium. But for this one, I feel, it is ineffective in telling you whether you should buy WoW or not. To the OP: A disproportionate amount of content is located at maximum level - level 90. A trial account gets you to level 20. A couple of low level dungeons, a day or two of play. That's it. There's so much more to the game that a trial account simply won't show you. Am I saying that you shouldn't do the trial? No. Since WoW has lived for so long, and has so much you have to buy before you can even enjoy the game fully (in my opinion, you may love the shit out of 1-20 just fine), it's a problem for every new player. All I'm saying is this: Don't assume you got the full experience of WoW if you're disappointed in it after you reach level 20, because you didn't. There's SO much more out there that only a higher level or max level player can experience. Edited September 21, 2013 by HandMan

Radost 76 September 22, 2013 #19 Share September 22, 2013 It's only 15 a month, that's really cheap. It's a fun game, I have been playing for over 5 years and I pvp competively. The biggest draw back to the game is how much time it consumes. This game is hands down the most addictive game I have ever played. Since the game is quite older then most games people play it has an older style UI witch I personally like. Wow has been slowly going down hill, if you do play, try to play live as well as a private server for some other x pack, hey are free "You WILL be heavily judged on how you treat others." Some people do love the grind. That said, WoW is a very solid game, but I wouldn't get it unless you have the time to burn. It can take a good while to do the content.
