Anyways, there was a kid in my class who came a few years ago, and he loved anime. Well, I judged without watching, and always thought it looked stupid. But I did promise myself that one day I actually would watch something anime.

One thing for sure, was from when I first saw them, I fell in love with nekos. They were just so cute! So recently, I started using one who was pink for me avatar on a texting app. Well a guy came to me and said "Hi Zoey." I was like "??? Who's that." He told me that the neko I was using was Zoey from the anime "Mew Mew Power." Well, I figured, I gave mlp a chance, and loved it, why not give this a chance, and I did. Ohmegosh I loved it! It was so cool! I will make sure I watch all 52 episodes. I found out through mlp, and now this "Mew Mew Power," that there's a lot of good things out there that hide. Because society tries to keep you from getting them. But I found you just have to challenge society, and it is rewarding. But anyways, that's what I liked, do you got an anime you like?

Mew Mew Power, huh? I've always called it Tokyo Mew Mew :PP
I haven't seen it but it was one of my sister's first anime. The same time she watched that she watched Mermaid Melody, so I can only say that if you like Mew Mew then you'd like Mermaid Melody too :DD

For an anime I have watched, I recommend Full Moon wo Sagashite. It is an anime with really great music. I'll grab the description for you.

Twelve-year-old Kouyama Mitsuki was devastated when she was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the throat. She had made a promise to the boy she loves that she would one day become a singer, but her illness made singing impossible. To make matters even worse, two angels of death, Takuto and Meroko, appeared to Mitsuki and informed her that she only had one year left to live. This news provides an even greater motivation for Mitsuki to fulfill her dreams, and with a little bit of divine intervention, she begins her quest to become a professional singer so she can be reunited with Eichi before time runs out. Read more at http://myanimelist.net/anime/122/Full_Moon_wo_Sagashite#oeAwJT4GltPEpb9f.99

Hey I just thought of some other ones you might like if you didn't like the way Full Moon sounds.
One of the first anime I'd seen were Pita Ten and Kamichama Karin.
I don't really remember all of the anime but I remember the openings. xD I was 10 when I watched these and never really payed attention to the story. I tried last year to read the Pita Ten manga but got lost. However, I reread the Kamachama Karin and Kamachama Karin Chu series over every couple years :DD

Here's openings for those two since I usually base how good an anime is first off on the opening

I've seen and heard about lots of anime but I just listed ones based off Tokyo Mew Mew, if you want other kinds of manga you can listen to other people's recommendations or ask me! I'm always up for anime and manga help :DD
Hope I helped!

I only have a couple of favourites anime for the time being - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. I also love Angel Beats (the art is wonderful despite the suspect story).

I am currently watching Steins;Gate, Lucky Star, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and I plan to tackle Soul Eater and Kanon (2006) sometime soon.

Of the people I know, myself included, most have avoided anime not because they've wholely dismissed it as a genre (in my view, it's mostly an animation style, broken into genres much like other TV), but mainly because each one they've tried watching hasn't really been their thing.

Of the common complaints:

-Excessive attempts to be cutesy, even in largely-serious anime. (Even MLP does not go quite so far)

-Cultural significances tend to be deeply rooted, even when not especially needed (contrariwise, Phoenix Wright's localization was very good at making appropriate changes; you're not about to see anyone addressed as Bob-San)

-(Killer for me!!) Dialogue tends to be EXTREMELY explicit.

"You actually think that I would have feelings that way for him? Idiot! I was only in this room so I could get my stupid train ticket back from him after he stole it!"

"Hehe...cover it up all you like. Everyone knows you're always eyeing Kuzuki-san!"

"GRRRRR...Say that again and I'll shove that book so far down your throat you'll never get it out!!"

And the same, but how it would be written in an American show:

"Uh...this isn't what it looks like."

*Smile* "Sure."

..."He took my-!"

"Sure. Got it."

...*Angry glare*

As someone who's taken time to 'analyze' comedy and mirth, this constantly annoys me about anime. See, that moment of "realization", when the audience figures out the connection for themselves, is precisely what makes so many moments funny. Poor writing, perhaps only poorly localized writing, tends to ruin that.

I get the feeling though, that such conversations would make more sense if you knew Japanese, and all the cultural nuances in its language. I often wish dubbers/subtitlers would listen to a conversation in an anime, and then think to themselves: "If I were to say that in my own words, in American English, would I structure those sentences completely differently?"

By the way, sorry if it's non-contributive to make a long post describing why I don't like anime. Heck, maybe someone could take my grievances to find me something I would like...

The Japanese don't have as many adjectives as we do, and they're a lot less subtle culturally. We may call something "Frightening" or "Scary" but they only have one word for it. It's partially because the English language is a lot of European languages combined. Also, taking into account the cultural differences, you can kinda understand why the Japanese cultural references are thrown in. Because everyone in Japan knows them and can relate to them. To take them out could easily change the meaning.

There's a wide variety of Anime out there. Some are darker (like Code Geass and Death Note) whilst others are girly (Like AKB0048 and Mermaid Melody) and there's some which are goofy, bright and over the top (like Tengen Toppa Gurren Langan!)

Anime isn't for everyone. There are different ways of watching it too. I personally prefer to watch it subbed rather than dubbed because it keeps more of the original meaning. It also constantly reminds me that I'm not watching a western cartoon, leaving me to excuse the cultural references.

Or maybe I'm just not extremely critical of what I watch, preferring to sit back and enjoy it. Also, I tried Death Note, and I didn't like it, and I watched Mermaid Melody years ago. The rest all have mechas in them, and I loved them. I think I'm onto something here...

Note: A lot of the girly anime have songs, but may also contain darker details, like death, apocalypses, attempts to control the world, if not the universe. And the characters tend to be slightly sexualised. This stuff isn't as taboo in Japanese culture as it is in Western countries, which, if you keep in mind, you might be able to enjoy it more.

I... um... The only anime I fully watched was Bleach. I try not to get too involved with anime, because otherwise I'll lose even more focus on studying than I already do. x3

But yeah. Bleach is awesome. Though it's a shame it's ended. I hope it comes back when the manga's final arch finishes.

Also, I watched a little bit of Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh and Bakugan when I was little. Does that count?

I've been trying to find new anime to watch, as well as finishing more recent excursions. I love anything in the mecha genre, and have yet to find a series that I hate (besides Naruto). I'll watch anything, really, though I'll list my favorite series below.

-Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (Ooooooh hell yes. I recommend watching this.)

-Neon Genesis Evangelion (Original series + End of Evangelion + the Rebuild movie series)

-Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (Just started, loving it.)

-Koutetsushin Jeeg!

-New Mobile Report Gundam Wing

-Ruroni Kenshin

-D.N.Angel

-Shinkon Gattai Godannar!

-Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

-Highschool of the Dead

-Senki Zesshou Symphogear

-Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

About Gurren Lagann, I strongly believe that this is an anime that every human being should try. If you end up disliking it, then oh well; move on with your life, it's not like you're a worse person for not liking it. However, this show - this random freakin' anime - could not only give some people a healthier outlook on life and an overall cleanlier mental state, but it could possibly even save the lives of those who are contemplating suicide. It is an uplifting, inspirational show, and I love it to pieces.
