I just found this awesome idea, phonebloks... has anyone else of heard of this? I sadly don't think it will ever happen, but I wish it would. It's brilliant!

What do you guys think?

Extremely amazing idea. The only downside I see is that dropping it on your bare feet probably hurts like a bitch. Then again, I'm like the only person who manages to pull that stupidity off.

It is only to hope.

Noone seems to think of it.

It will be more pricey becouse it takes more time to produce the parts.

but it would been in the price range of an iphone already XD

though it would last a loooot longer.

I would assume it would multiple hundreds of dollars just like a computer... but only once. You can replace each individual part instead of the whole machine whenever you need an upgrade and each part (my guess) would range between 10-300 dollars depending on what it is, same with computer parts.

Okay, this looks amazing. Such a simple yet not so simple concept that looks like it would work brilliantly. This is a phone that I would definitely want. My only question, what exactly is the website about? Are they raising funds or what? Not sure what it means. It is just a concept at the moment correct? Well, it needs to be more than that if possible.

Yeah, unfortunately it isn't anything more than an idea right now. I wish it was though! I would totally buy this priduct and I'm feeling like so would most people who read that website.

The ones who came up with the idea need to have a kickstarter or something. The support for that would be immense. The logic behind this phone is very well thought out and I could see it being a huge hit if it were to get off of the ground.

An awesome concept like this shouldn't go to waste! :(

Phonebloks is a brilliant idea, that sadly will probably never get funded, since the mobile industry practically profits like madmen of the fact that people just buy new phones everytime something brakes. I really hope this gets funded, but i just dont think it's possible.

yeah i don't think it would ever happen. but if it did that would be brilliant. but all great ideas have to come from somewhere don't there? this just needs funding and a few great minds coming together and wah la! the market is already out there :)

I would buy it if it existed.

I'm not sure if the big companies will get on board with this, since they really like their money...

If the 'blocks' of the phone could be developed by different companies, it would have a higher chance of becoming a reality.

Hmm, the only issue I see with this is that, oh, let's say I want to upgrade my Wifi. Oh well, I'm going to need to upgrade my phone's processor to do this. Well now that I have a different processor it won't work with my camera, so now I'll need to upgrade that too. Oh, and now that I've upgraded all those, it uses too much battery and I'll need to get a new battery. See how this could be an issue? Even if you can use new hardware on older hardware, the transfer ratio would be unbalanced causing even slower times and possible crashing. Plus, with most phone companies offering a free phone every two years with a contract it's pretty much not worth it.

Now I won't go to say this isn't bad, it just needs to be rethought out.

We already have this kind of technology, partially.

The new Jolla phone have an interface behind its back cover that can be used to extend its features e.g add a bigger battery, high quality camera or even a physical keyboard. It's primitive, but its heading in the right direction.
