Page.Turner 940 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 Eh... I've been having a bit of an issue lately. I have had all the time in the world right now to draw but because I'm in a common area of the college I'm too embarrassed. I am NOT drawing anything horrible or gross or pornographic, it's just cute ponies, pokemon and Animal Crossing fan art. I don't know... I'm way too sensitive right now. 1 ... Discordian 6,015 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 I get in embarrassed for other people. When I see awkward situations, particularly about love (usually in a manga), I get embarrassed FOR the people involved. So much so that I have absolutely no way of feeling embarrassed for myself. I have no shame. xD
Starlighty 957 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 You should never be embarrassed or ashamed of things you draw! You will learn that a good artiest live up to their paintings or drawing knowing that's who they are and what inspired them 9 https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=webhp&tbm=isch&source=hp&ei=kBduVKzHIMGqoQSA3oGYBQ&q=smile+smile+smile+pinkie+pie&oq=smile+smile+smile+pinkie+pie&gs_l=mobile-gws-hp.3...2593.19183.0.19546.43.36.0.0.0.1.1263.2249.6-1j1.2.0....0...1c.1.58.mobile-gws-hp..42.1.1263.0.t9GmIVfq5Q0#facrc=_&imgrc=PSKZ8o6BCR8iTM%253A%3BpH_DWjyDzGiWzM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Ffc08.deviantart.net%252Ffs70%252Ff%252F2012%252F049%252F6%252Fb%252Fcome_on_everypony_smile__by_dignifiedjustice-d4q4upq.png%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fhdw.eweb4.com%252Fout%252F554482.html%3B1920%3B1080
Arrow 236 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 Try clopping in public, your embarrassment for everything will disappear forever! Anachronous 682 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 (edited) If it helps at all, I know the feeling pretty well. I used to draw a lot of Pokemon in sixth grade, a year when I was supposedly "cool." Having a reputation that was mine to lose, I always feared that getting caught with my drawings would somehow render me "uncool," so the notebook I took to school each day with the intention of drawing in didn't do too much besides gather dust in my desk. If I could go back in time and tell myself to buck it up and just do what I wanted to do, I would've. What you like is what you like and, to quote Dr. Suess, "be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." You shouldn't let your nerves get to you, believe me. As with most things regarding fandoms, it's only weird if you make it that way. Just be cool about it and ease your nerves. Someone comes up to you? Don't get defensive, just explain if they care to listen. Edited February 24, 2012 by Vicereine Vee IV 1 keep it real . Akemi Homura 7,680 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 I used to draw Pokemon back in 4th grade. Nobody in particular said negative things about it, even though Pokemon wasn't really cared much about in Vancouver back then (weird, I know). They did annoyed every time I brought up my drawings, though. Guess I shouldn't have shoved it down their throats. But hey, we're talking about drawing. People appreciate art, people appreciate singing. Who knows, maybe you'll be surprised if you show your drawings to people. Just don't bring them up every single time (like I did) though.
Swoop 2,278 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 Feeling uncomfortable about doing the things you love can be a bothersome experience; by feeling embarrassed or self conscious, you take yourself out of a positive mindset, and begin to look at things subjectively. As a result, the world can often look like quite a gauche place, with everyone quietly projecting their judgments upon one another, often as a way of rationalising and justifying their own insecurities. Fortunately for us, self conscious feelings can be easily by squashed, by simply choosing to embrace and value what makes us happy, over the opinions that others may hold. If you must feel unduly aware of something, try to focus on what you do best, and be encouragingly self-conscious about that. Strive to be consciously constructive, rather than constrictive, and you'll be in a more positive and creative mindset than what can be said for most. Now go, make the most of your time, and draw some awesome art.
Page.Turner 940 February 24, 2012 Author Share February 24, 2012 I get in embarrassed for other people. When I see awkward situations, particularly about love (usually in a manga), I get embarrassed FOR the people involved. So much so that I have absolutely no way of feeling embarrassed for myself. I have no shame. xD That is empathy! C: I have empathy, as well... Especially for socially awkward people. They make me cry sometimes because I feel so embarrassed for them. I can't stand rejection of others but I can take it very well, personally! "Empathy, empathy, put yourself in the place of me!" Try clopping in public, your embarrassment for everything will disappear forever! Joking aside, what Starlighty said, if you really like what you're drawing then you shouldn't feel bad for it or anything like that. BAHAHAHAHA!! I just snorted. And the only one to properly quote Dr.Suess without making me remember my drama class where we had to memorize Fox in Socks and perform it... oh wait. I did remember. But thank you, I certainly understand your point. I just have a lot of trouble, sometimes, when I'm alone. I feel like everyone is out to get me which is a deep seeded personal issue from my 10+ years of being bullied in school. My psychologist gives me a lot of insightful advice but I see him too much as a father figure to take his words so much to heart anymore. Strangers terrify me yet they seem to be the only people I can confide in. ...
Strafe 594 February 24, 2012 Share February 24, 2012 Well if you got talent then I don't see why you should be embarrassed of drawing whatever comes to your mind. I drew once, for art class, my art teacher said I was the most artistically challenged student she ever had in all her days in teaching, talk about embarrassing. xD "The Gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again." Inkfeather 597 February 28, 2012 Share February 28, 2012 You should not feel embarrassment over skills that you enjoy to use. Hone these skills and be proud of what you can achieve through them! If people are interested enough to look at what you do, be proud of the attention they give your work. If they notice it, then it is worth looking at after all. I cannot see what reasons you might hold to hide this ability of yours. You must stand up tall and be proud of these things that you wish to do. If it your choie to draw, then draw regardless of how people might judge you. You should think of them as mere spectators of your brilliant work and disregard what hate they might hold and focus your attention towards what you do and the people who are smart enough to appreciate it. Hiding in shame is never an option. It's a mere delay of what is to happen anyways. Instead of them seeing you hide it and mock your shame you should come first at hand and show off proudly for those who wish to review your work. That is... My opinion atleast. 83awsm 234 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 Along the lines of what others have said, I wouldn't be that sensitive about your artwork. If someone doesn't like it that's their own loss, don't let others comments bring down great inspiration. Awesomeness = at least 20% Cooler. Dreambiscuit 9,691 May 20, 2018 Share May 20, 2018 Being embarrassed about art shouldn't be an issue because it can be as private as you want it to be. It's like going to the bathroom; it would be embarrassing in public but happily no one has to see you doing it.
Midnight Solace 5,132 December 8, 2018 Share December 8, 2018 I get embarrassed when people just look at me or what I'm doing.
