Just some thoughts on nightmare moon

two weeks ago i got around to seeing the first two episodes and,

 

By geroge she's kind of an awesome presence on screen.

"It's wonderful to see all your precious sun loving faces."

 

she's cruel, sophisticated, quite frankly she talks the talk.

Granted every time she tries to break up the main six she sucks out loud

 

So aesthetically she's amazing. 
not to mention with out the sun she's gonna turn equistra into a wasteland, out of bitterness.  Damn that's evil.

 

I kinda lament seeing that there wasn't this great reasoning moment with luna. 

"Do you really want to doom equistra?"

 

Luna's mind buried away in that cold exterior, instead of the elements of harmony maybe luna herself  coming to the rationalization "what have i done?!?"

 

Do you feel nightmare moon counts as luna having a multiple personalty disorder?
and if so wouldn't it be awesome to see who else is floating around in there.

 

after 1000 years on the moon it's no fun when your just a party of just one ^ ~.

So where does nightmare moon reside in luna?  her mind?  her heart?  in her magic?  I'm not sure I'd call it greed.

Luna doesn't want to control the sun.  She seems more content in kicking over the game table than taking it so to speak.

Multiple personality disorder.... hmm. That would be an interesting turn of events. i know a bit about the disorder and i can imagine something causing such a devastating disorder like that. Unfortunately Luna has been shown to be aware of what nightmare moon does or has done. so I guess in reasoning they have already ruled out that possibility. But that WOULD be neat.

I myself have always liked Nightmare Moon. I always wondered though, is it canon that the little, evil moon creatures manifested Nightmare Moon through her jealousy like the Nightmare Rarity IDW comic arc explains? (At least I think that's how It went. Sorry I haven't read those for a while, so my memory may be a little off.)

In the season 4 preview it almost appears, as Luna is being transformed, that there is a flash of uncertainty and fear in her eyes. As if the real Luna appears and is thinking "what have I done?", but it's too late to prevent her fall. If true it leads me to wonder if a malevolent factor is partly to blame. I guess we'll see.

It would be likely that NMM is just a manifestation that got amplified enough to the point of taking over Luna. At least that's what I thought after reading the comics.

I love the concept of Luna as a character who is simultaneously good with the possibility of being bad. The story behind her is very strong and clear and allows for us to have a better understanding of her. I do hope there is more of her evil side in S4 (I have not read spoilers, so please avoid telling me if any of that is confirmed or not..) but we must wait.

Seeing as Luna faced a series of baddies with her sister, then is completely ignored, I can see how there might be some bitterness. Young ruler, stress, neglect, a series of factors that could give rise to a dark side of her, then having 1000 years of isolation to stew in feelings of resentment and hate, it is easy to see her being a different mare upon returning. Her character has so much potential, and it wasn't explored in much depth in season 1, I would definitely enjoy seeing more of Luna and seeing her personality developed, including the Nightmare Moon aspect.
