technology The Internet...it's getting worse

Over the last few years there have been more and more decisions, particularly taken from some of the largest web-based corporations, that we cannot explain and whose reasons behind have been incredibly secretive. Cue Google, Facebook, even Yahoo. Infact, I'd go as far to say that Microsoft appears warm and cuddly compared to them.

Let me give you an example: the value of information. This video sums it up pretty well so I'll let it speak for itself more than anything else.

I have a suspicion that we're building up to a menacing climax where it all crumbles apart. Not like a dotcom bust, more like a revolution in a sense. People like me don't know who is supposed to be (or is) responsible for themselves or anything that goes on around them.

Anyone else feel the same or similar?

Yeah, it's sad to feel this way, but it's true.  Sometimes I don't want to share information on sites because of it, but then it's like...  "Screw it, they already know."  However, I still don't put personal info on some places to avoid stalkers and stuff.

Honestly i couldn't agree more. Youtube sucks right now but EVERYONE uses it and it's so convienient that i cannot boycott google permanently... I wanna quit youtube and delete my forced google+ account but i can't because of the actual content people put on the site.

Internet has been getting worse because of the shitty casual internet users.

I know it's a common thing to hate on the casuals of anything, but it's true. Back in say 2003-2004, the internet was great. But it was lacking in features in many ways (I literally don't know what I would do without Youtube currently). But the community was what made it good, oh man 4chan from around that time, and a lot of online games even, and all the sites and things.

I'd say the good times continued until 2008-2009, and things have been declining ever since. The problem is, the internet became overavailable in a sense. You went from having nerds and fairly smart people (and a good share of 12 year old kids) on the internet, to having a lot of your sort-of everyday people, the grandmas and the grandpas and your aunt, and your co-workers. What they wanted from the internet was a purely social platform, and when they did want to consume and generate content, they ended up propelling lots of absolute shit to the top of the list (like the pewdiepies of the world).

I mean, fucking reddit has a userbase. Reddit, literally one of the most autistic places on the net.

The Internet isn't getting worse, but specific sites are getting worse due to inept CEOs have no idea what the people want but don't care because we have to accept it. (Been making youtube vids since 2006, just now trying to make a career out of it, Google+ sure makes things difficult for me)
