Denarius continually stared into the blackness of the cavern, suddenly a spark of light appeared in the distance revealing three shadowy figure lurking within the caves. It was at least reassuring to know that he had not misled himself whilst trailing Orion. Suddenly, a kindly, young voice piped up within the distance in response to his beckon. The voice simply welcomed him inside the cave. He recognized the voice. It was the voice of Orion's sister, yet this still did not reassure the stallion.

 

"Well my kind mare, I would like to believe that your brother over there wouldn't harm me, yet he tried to attack me, unprovoked no less, last I time  I saw him. I mean no rudeness, I assure you, yet I wish to hear his opinion on the matter".

Icy tried to keep herself standing, she wasn't going to let her self look weak. She could see the other shake with cold. -Right they can't put up with the cold like me- She let out a sign. She had no real way to help or heal them. Still this was her element. being in the cold, in a snow storm, was nothing new. She could at least go out and keep watch while the other recovered.

She remembered hearing a pony calling out orders. She thought about telling her about her talents. She also thought about going to Kingfisher, but she seem unsure what to do.

"Hello?" she called to the pony in the helmet. She never did get her name. "I can tolerate the cold and use Ice magic. Is there anything I can do to help?"

"I was going to do it, doctor. You don't have to tell me to do so." Eclipse picked up Blast with his psychic magic and carried him to one of the carts. Or, at least one that was still left intact after the crash. It didn't seem like Blast was waking up for awhile. The injury to the skull will leave him unconscious until is done about it, which would have to be soon. 

 

Eclipse put Blast on one of the chairs and took out a sheet from one of the carrying cases on the train. He then covered up Blast with it and sat beside him until the doctor arrives.

"That crazy doctor better know what he's doing..." Eclipse muttered.

Pavisa glances up as she hears a new voice address her.  It was one of the newcomers she hadn't met yet.  The ex-guard nods and smiles slightly, gesturing with her head towards the door.  "Go see if you can help Midnight.  If we're not ready to move somewhere out of this storm, all of this is going to be pretty meaningless...  Name's Pavisa, by the way!"

 

Not exactly a good time for introductions, but the mare figured if they were going to go through something like this together they may as well at least know each other's names.

The changeling in the guise of the pegasus picks himself up, staying near the fire to stop from shaking.  He figured it was about time to stop being a burden, and while he couldn't operate well in the cold he still had his mouth and his wits.

 

 "I'd imagine it would be easier to assess if you were a threat provided we could see you, rather than just hear a voice in the dark."  He was managing to keep his teeth from chattering by talking in Tactic's droll voice, which he supposed was one advantage of using the boring pegasus.  "Although, if you wish to stand in the cold until Orion decides you're not suspicious, you're welcome to freeze...  You should know that my friend isn't going to be one to trust easily."

Once he was in the train car, Icarus focused all of his concentration onto the fractured area. The bones inside aligned and slightly mended (( I mean very slightly, there is only a membrane holding them together)) Icarus got out his role  of  gauze and wrapped around Blasts head, and then focused another spell, witch caused the gauze to solidify, hopefully helping keep the Fractured part of the skull in place. He kept Blast layed down flat, and turned to anyone that had followed him.

 

"It wasn't to serious, he will be fine now, besides the usual symptoms of concussion. He is going to have balance problems, and at times major nausea over the next few days" Icarus said, rubbing the side of his head. 

 

He felt a headache coming on from using two powerful spells in rapid succession. This was going to be a painful night for him.

Crimson smiled and nodded, before quickly rolling out from under the debris. "thanks for the help, Pavisa. One more minute under those damned things, and I would've probably lost the feeling in my arms, or worse...gotten sober..." he said with a chuckle, only half joking as he returned Pavisa's wink, before trotting over to what was left of the next car to salvage what he could of his gear.

Clockwork yelled after Eclipse and Icarus "Wait, come back! You'll be better off in here with him. There's still heat from the boiler!" He turned around, spinning the wheel on the boiler's furnace door, and opened it. The coals were still hot, and radiated heat out which was nearly unbearable standing right in front of it. "The beauty of a steam engine is that the coals don't just stop putting out if the car tips. This should keep us warm for some time until we can find a better place to be." He winced as his gash shot pain up his leg, the blood was pouring out still. He trotted off to find Icarus in the next car over. He left the door open to allow the heat to flow in from the engine. "Icarus, I have a plan.. but I'll need your help." He dropped his bag on the floor in front of him, reaching into it, he pulled out a little cone shaped device, and a cable. He plugged them together, and then attached it to his battery pack. "If you have any healing spells, you can project them through this device, and store that energy in a charge cell within my battery. It contains six cells, each is powered with non focused energy at the moment. If we empty one or two, and charge it with a healing aura, I can help mend some of the group while you patch the more badly wounded. If we get this to work, it'll speed things up immensely. I don't want to be out here any longer than I have to be, something's out there in the storm." He looked urgently to Icarus.

Scribbler was surprised by Orion suddenly turning around and ditching after Willow. He hadn't even noticed the mare leave at first until Orion reacted. He turned his head, seeing Mirror next to him offering her blanket. He smiled, lowering his shield and accepted it graciously, tying it around his neck. He hugged Mirror out of pure thankfulness. "Thank you, this cold was really getting to me.. Let's get moving, we don't want to get caught out here any longer." He turned and trotted off after Denarius, who seemed to have followed Orion, making sure Mirror wasn't far behind. "I don't use my ignition spell often, but now would be a very good occasion."

Denarius listened to this new voice, and weighed his options. Neither were exactly ideal odds for him, but he knew this new pony spoke the truth. He could not simply wait until he keeled over to the blizzard's embrace.

 

"Your right my friend, I can't simply stand out here and wait. Besides I'm sure Orion over there would make it less painful than the cold outside", Denarius stated with a slight chuckle.

 

He emerged from the shadows of the cave's entrance. Clothed in what appeared to be once a fine crimson cloak, but was now worn down from years of use. Denarius began casually walking towards the fires calming glow, yet suddenly he stopped. He began tinkering with something underneath his cloak. It was a sheathed dagger.His magic levitated it in the air for the briefest of seconds, until it was casually tossed aside, clanging against the hard surface of the cave.

 

"It's only for self-defence. I assure you, but if it will make your friend there more comfortable I will disarm", Denarius stated with a slight smile, hoping his gesture would win some trust amongst this odd group of travellers.

After fixing up Blast, he looked to Clockwork, then to the group

 

"Blast is fine, If you need someone to charge I can, but I can only charge one, as this will be the third spell I've casted in one minute " He explained "just tell me were to focus it to charge the cell"

 

Then Icarus turned back to Blast, and started a small electrical spell, hopefully stimulating his nerves and getting him awake. He casted the small electrical spell, then felt a pain shoot up into his head.

Aegis Dare

 

Aegis couldn't fight the urge any longer. He limped a few paces away and threw up on the snow, a mixture of vomit and blood from his muzzle. "Well... Better out than in..." He said, trying to remain calm and avoid throwing up again. He fished out his water canteen and took a sip, washing the taste of blood and vomit out of his mouth and spat it out.

"Pavisa" she nodded and looked around. "Midnight was the pony who left, right?" She was sure of that and headed out into the snow. 

 

Walking out into the storm she was greeted with snow, sticking out her hoof she tired to catch snow on her hoof. She smiled as snow rushed and landed on her hoof. 
"Hello mother" she said. her mother told her that when she died she would always be with her in the form of snow. Even though there were other ponies in the cart waiting for good news. She couldn't help, but actually rest her head on the snow. Her body still ached with pain, but to feel snow on her body seemed to help numb and dull the pain a little. She would pay the price for hiding her pain when they got to somewhere warm she won't be able to use the cold to slow the pain and blood.looking around in the storm she tired to spot Midnight. she noticed a figure she almost missed

As the fog began to clear, it should have been a good thing. Somehow, it only served to make the blizzard seem all that colder and the region more isolated. Thinking that you were cut off from everything was nothing compared to seeing that you were, after all.

 

The wind picked up - a piercing gale which whipped up shards of snow and ice as it went - whispering words in some long forgotten language as it passed

 

It could feel them nearby: a bolt of lightning - not simply magic but the very force of nature itsel, warped through sone fel powerf - launched itself from the churning sky towards the wreckage of the train - striking one of the carriages and, in a moment of glorious warmth, turned it into a molten, smouldering mound.

 

None of the life went away - empty! It could still feel them, scurrying like ants all around...

Kingfisher.

 

The sudden, all too brief moment of warmth helped clear some of Kingfishers thoughts. She blinked, shook her head and stood - quickly being reminded of her handicap as her real leg buckled.

 

Returning to her hooves, the adventurer pushed outside and gulped down the icy air.

 

"We can't stay here - get back to the tra..."

 

The track. In the direction of the ominous, writhing mass of... something that didn't look particularly pleased to see them. It wasn't closing in - not with any real speed anyway. Something that size... it wouldn't need to.

 

"Oh buck..."

Orion grunted at the clearly-hostile stranger being seeming welcomed to join them... It was clear that the party didn't see him as the leader they once did. Still - with the stallion disarmed he was more than confident that between them, he and Scribbler could subdue him quickly enough via magic, even should he take the opportunity to attack while their backs were turned.

 

"I'm watching you..." He muttered dubiously - turning his attention onto the intruder. "... too many 'travellers' out to cause harm these days. Can't be too careful..."

 

"Zi... Tactic, hold onto the knife for tonight - I don't want to wake up with it in my back."

Blast & Eclipse

In an instant, Blast was jolted awake, electricity flowing through his body. His vision didn't even take it's time coming back. It just returned to him in the instant of opening his eyes.

"Wowza! What in the heck was that??" Blast said, not getting out of his chair, but putting his hoof on his head. He then felt the bandages that had been placed onto his wounds. "Whoa... what happened...?"

 

Eclipse pointed outside to the wreckage.

"This happened."

 

Blast looked outside, and he couldn't believe it. Train cars were scattered all over the snowy meadow, bodies of passengers all over the place, even the conductor. It looked like a twister hit the place.

Frost sat for a moment, watching as the doctor worked on Blast. He looked down at the cigarettes in his pouch, wondering whether to smoke one...it would give him a little more warmth. Yet it was close quarters and he didnt want to cause any problems by blowing smoke at others. He stepped outside, finding Kingfish who appeared awe struck. "Something wrong King?" He said as he lit his cigarette.

Clockwork held out the cone at the end of the cable. "Just place this over your horn, and wait till I say before casting it. I need to vent the cell first." He reached onto his back, pulling the battery free from the harness and setting it down. Multiple cables still connected him to the pack on the floor. He twisted a cap on one of the six cells, and opened it. As he lifted the cap off a brilliant white light shone out, and dispersed into the air in a thick fog of energy. "It seems like a waste.. but there's really no use for it aside from powering these wings. It can't be re-purposed yet, but that's something I've been working on." He capped the cell once again, and nodded. "Alright.. you can cast now. Just sustain your spell as long as you can afford to, the cell will fill up as you cast. I'll let you know if it's full." He kept an eye on the gauge which was built into the side of each cell. The one he'd emptied was down in the red, the others still in the high greens.

Icarus casted his healing spell and held it for as long as he could. Little ways through, his head started to really hurt, and then started to throb. But he held the spell as long as was needed by clockwork, and then stopped.

 

"No more spells for me, I'm straining my horn way to hard, id it's starting to show" He said rubbing the side of his head, " Pray tell that was enough to fill it?" he said, before looking over to Kingfisher.

Pavisa had ran outside at the sound of the lightning striking the empty car, stepping up next to Kingfisher.  "What in Equestria was-"  She stops short as she follows the other mare's gaze back to the tracks, seeing...  Whatever it was they were seeing.  "...Oh, this is bad."

 

They couldn't fight something that big - they wouldn't even distract it if they did, whatever it was.  "We've got to get out of here!"  She turns to shout back into the train car.  "Everypony, come on!  We're leaving, NOW!"  Hoping that they wouldn't question the barked order, the ex-guard turns her attention back to Kingfisher.

 

"Fisher, Midnight was supposed to be finding somewhere we could get to.  Find him and see what he found, I'll be right behind you.  Somepony has to warn those in the other car."  Time was of the essence with that...  Thing...  Up on the tracks, and as such Pavisa didn't wait for an answer before taking off at a gallop towards the other train car.

Pavisa kicks the door open to the second car, shaking from the cold but running on adrenaline.  She takes just a second to look around at the situation before barking out "Everypony come on, we're leaving!  No time to wait around here anymore!"

'Tactic' spread his wings and used them to propel himself towards where the dagger had landed, calmly picking up the weapon.  He wasn't one to question orders.  The changeling was keeping an eye on the newcomer, analyzing him, studying his appearance...  In case he would need to use it later.

 

Once he has the knife he quickly flies back over to Orion and Willow, shrugging off the winter cloak and handing it to Orion.  He didn't need it with the fire burning, after all.  "Thank you, by the way...  This was supposed to be yours, wasn't it?  You didn't need to do that."  Zintiik smiles, a gesture that looks somewhat out of place on Tactic's face, but it was genuine.

Still somewhat shaken - Kingfisher kept her composure better than she might have otherwise. She raised a hoof in the direction of the railway track as they were joined by Pavisa.

 

"... Are clouds supposed to get to the size of small mountains? How about be on the ground and have eyes!?" She asked, her dazed voice not quite capturing the sarcasm properly as she turned to try and follow her friends instructions. "Well this isn't the greatest situation to be in..."

 

Not knowing which direction Midnight had gone, and lacking Redwaves compass to track him, she simply decided on going directly away from the... thing.

 

"Thanks Bardic..." She muttered under her breath as she stumbled away.

"I'll get you back for dropping me into this mess..."

Clockwork looked down at the gauge. It showed a three quarter charge in the cell. "Well, it's not full, but that'll do for now. We should be able to mend a few injuries with this. Thank you, doctor." He placed the battery back into it's place on his back, and removed the cone device from Icarus. "Any chance you could bandage this for me? I'm losing a lot of blood.." He looked down at the small crimson puddle that was growing in size around his hoof.

When Kingfisher made the remark in the middle of her sentence, Clockwork's ears folded back, and he slowly turned to see what she had spotted. "Sweet mother of.. The guard is right, let's move. Healing can wait, we'll have to carry the disabled." He looked around for an exit, then dashed over towards a door, opening it.

Hearing a loud sound she turned to where the train was.
Being far from the train she couldn't quiet make out the thing going for the train, she could tell it was big and was likely the thing that attacked the train early.
"What in Luna's name is that?" Looking around she hoping to see a way to help the others. Opening her bottle of water she dropped a small part of it on the snow. She hardened the snow and water to make small shards of ice.

"Try this!" shooting the small shards of ice towards the thing, she hoped to at least draw it's attention and give the others time to move.

Midnight Sky

 

When he heard a voice call his name, Midnight turned and saw it was the mare from the train, the one who like the cold. "Yeah, I'm Midnight Sky, I guess Pavisa sent you to find me?" Midnight asked casually before he heard what sounded like lightning hitting nearby. He looked over just in time to see a glow subsiding from where the others were as well as a large silhouette near where the tracks ought to be. "That won't be any good miss whatever-your-name-is, we need to get the others and go, I've found a place where we can go to hide and I don't think that behemoth will be able to follow us. Let's go!" Midnight said quickly before running back to the others. "Listen up everypony! Just follow me, I found a cave a little ways off that we can hide in, from the weather and whatever that thing is! So hurry up!" Midnight yelled to the others as loudly as he could. As a precaution, Midnight began building up his magic for a burst of chaos magic as a last resort defense, hopefully he wouldn't need it but it was the only spell he could think of that would suitably stall that creature. Hopefully the others all heard him fine, Midnight didn't want to think of what would happen if they forgot somepony.

The intangible mass of churning black cloud shifted its gaze slightly as one of the creatures... did... something. It was difficult to make out, but they seemed to be... attacking?

 

A slight shift in structure - little more than blinking for a normal creature - drew up snow and ice inside it - adding them to the already less than hospitable wind - turning the coldness into a dangerous volley of blinding white powder and sharp, razor edged hail within seconds.

He'd been afraid before on numerous occasions, most recently trying to save Aphrodite in the temple. He was scared that he couldn't save her. Maybe by saving her, he'd crushed her spirit. So why was he thinking about this now?

 

Because fear compelled him to act without any thought or hesitation. With adrenaline pumping through his body, he ignored his own pain and fears. His father once described it as 'being like the Phoenix bursting from the ashes', though he was one to dramatize things sometimes. Aegis only had one clear goal in mind: Save them.

 

"Let's go!" He said, taking off his cloak. He turned to Eclipse with a deadpan serious look, one he only gave in dire situations. "I need your help for this one. Lift him onto my back and tie him down with the cloak. I should still be able to fly if you tie him in a cross pattern around my wings. Then start leading the others towards Midnight, ok?"

Eclipse and Blast

"Let me help you through the cold, Blast." Eclipse said to his frenemy. "You and I both know that you're nowhere near 100%. Without proper support, the injury could get worse."

 

The stallion was hesitant, but Blast nodded to Eclipse. "Just make sure it doesn't get worse." 

 

Eclipse then put his arm around Blast and trotted outside. "You'll be alright. Just follow my lead." Eclipse began walking with the group with Blast walking carefully alongside him. Eclipse slowly trotted up to Pavisa."Where are we even gonna go?" He asked her.

Willow Starsinger

 

Willow let out a sharp scream as a piece of hail that was probably the the size of her whole hoof barely missed her muzzle as she was gathering some firewood outside of the cave. She picked up Kricket and stuffed him into her saddlebag again. It's not like the hail would get him in there. She began to hyperventilate and threw the wood at the cave floor, rushing over to behind a rock. "Just breathe," Willow frowned frantically, "breathe!" Willow wasn't too sure about how the weather suddenly transitioned from strong snowstorm to hail the size of minivans.

 

Willow sighed and looked at the others, pretending nothing bad happened. "Don't worry, Orion. If we don't get along though, somepony could kick somepony else out, and that somepony could die!" Willow sighed, knowing that she was getting too panicky. "I sure hope that this cave leads out somewhere. Just so we could get out of this stupid hail. It could put all of us in danger. Is there any way we could seal the cave?" Meanwhile, Willow took Zintiik's hoof and squeezed it tight for comfort for the situation.
