Why is Derpy the mother of Dinky?

This really bothers me so much, more then DerpyXDoctor

 

It does not make any sense at all! For one, Dinky is a unicorn, and Derpy is a Pegasus, and it just feels like another thing that was randomly made together an it strangely caught on. In a lot of peoples minds, Doctor Whooves is the father, which also doesn't make sense still, since Dinky is a unicorn, and purple, but I don't think color really matters.

 

Also, in a lot of peoples minds, Dinky acts like a smart filly, which also doesn't make sense since Derpy has a bubbly personality. So, all I am asking is:

How did Derpy become the mother of Dinky, and why?

Oh and I know this isn't canon but I am wondering how it became a fandom canon, fanom I think it's called, thing.

I think it's because they look similar, and may have been seen together before, so people just started this idea, maybe to make Derpy seem more responsible or something. The name "Dinky" may have caught on before this, so they noticed the similarity. I also have a problem with this. She was in the YOUNG flyers' competition, and Dinky was with a different mare in Sisterhooves Social and Mysterious Mare-do-Well. She could have a daughter and be in that competition, maybe, but the "Sparkler is Derpy's adopted daughter" or whatever is nonsense. Why would that make sense? Sparkler is probably older than Derpy.

There are MANY reasons for this,

 

1. Dinky's father is a Unicorn, but left Derpy before Dinky was born. Thus solves that one

2. Derpy adopted Dinky

 

 

Also, for the 'why people like to have them as mother and daughter'

Maybe it's because this silly fandom likes to latch onto anything they can to create fanon. I see what people were trying at "they both have the same eyes and mane...kinda", but it doesn't really work all too well. This is one of the more nonsensical ideas.

This is just a fandom thing, but I love the idea of Derpy adopting Dinky. <3 I wish the idea could be explored in an episode, but...we all know Derpy is never gonna get an episode. Still.

It's established in-show that foals are not necessarily the same 'breed' as their parents, thanks to the Cakes.

 

That aside, it's another random pairing that the fandom latched onto. Usually it's explained as the actual father is a Unicorn and is dead/missing. But I've also seen Dinky being adopted, being an artificial creation as per Luke (a character in the Sarah Jane Adventures series which for those who don't know was a younger audience spin-off of Doctor Who), and several others.

 

And of course, many bring Sparkler/Amethyst Star into the mix. Also a unicorn that has appeared with Dinky in the Sisterhooves Social episode competing against Rarity and Sweetie Bell.

Adopt? Well, I don't think that's true. I think Derpy and Dinky being family alongside Dr. Whooves probably originated from a fanfiction or something. But I'm still confused about Amethyst Star being Dinky's big sister. They were both at the Sisterhooves Social together.

The most amusing one I've seen around this is Amethyst Star being the formal name for Sparkler, who is actually a orphan from the pony equivalent of Pompeii, rescued by Derpy and the Doctor. I believe that particular fanfic had Dinky being the daughter of Derpy and a mysterious Unicorn that disappeared. The Doctor stepping in and adopting both of them as part of his Time Turner false identity.

She has gotten that name because it is similar to Ditzy Doo, which is another name for Derpy Hooves. She probably got that name because she looks similar to Derpy and there's a bunch of people thinking she could be Derpy's daughter.

 

I do not think she is though and here is why;

 

1. Derpy and Dinky are not really seen together in any part of an episode as far as I know.

 

2. In the episode "Sisterhooves Social" Dinky Doo and another pony called Amethyst Star are seen together competing in the contest.

 

...Which suggests that "Dinky Doo" and Amethyst Star are sisters.

......Which would mean that Amethyst Star is Derpy Hooves' kid....No. That's not possible.

Derpy is too young for that, just look at Twilight and her mother.

You'd question Derpy being the mother of a unicorn and Not the cake's explaination of how they got twin unicorn and pegesus? XD

 

And the intelligence isn't limited to how smart the mother is, if anything I'd put that down to derpy making her buckle down harder than she herself did/could.

People made it cuz they look pretty similar. I honestly think that's the only reason. And by the way, it doesn't matter that Derpy's a pegasus and Dinky's a unicorn. Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake are proof that different races can come from different race parents.

Yeah this. Not to mention that Dinky is also seen with 2 other older background ponies in The Last Roundup who look at her during Applejack's speech. There's just no way nonsense fanon like this can be true with these facts.

We don't realy know how biology work in Equestria, however, we can assume that unicorns, earth ponies and pegasus are different species. (which wouldn't make much sense, since a society made up of different species requires so much equality between the said species that it couldn't just happen by itself) In this case, Dinky is adopted.

 

 

But there's another way, if the fact of being a unicorn, pegasus or earth pony is influenced by the DNA (like the different type of ants; gards, workers, etc.), it's could be possible that Derpy is, in fact, the mother of Dinky. That could also explain why Twilight suddenly became a alicorn, like the way some of the said ants became queens and such.

As far as I can tell, the only reason for it is because they look kind of similar. Which seems really stupid to me, and I've never been a fan of the whole concept.

Considering they look very similar (though Dinky's color is a bit more purple than Derpy's hair color), the fans see this resemblance as an opportunity to create a relationship between the two characters for their writing, art, or videos.

 

Still, similar color schemes doesn't mean the characters are related. Just look at Amethyst Star and Dinky who appear to be sisters in Sisterhooves Social; do they look alike? No, besides the fact that they are unicorns.

 

For all we know, Derpy might be some other young pegasus's mother that we are unaware of!

Do you remember the cakes???? That was two earth ponies giving birth to a Unicorn and a Pegasus. I don't think a Pegasus giving birth to a unicorn is completely imposible.
