Since money is tight, cheap DIY/handmade gifts would be great, but I don't want it to be something boring or tacky. You can say "it's the thought that counts" but I do want to give a good gift, you know?So tel l me: what is the best handmade gift someone has given you? Guest December 13, 2013 Share December 13, 2013 (edited) Well... i made a 1800 ( probably more) volts flyswatter for my dad once....You just put the tip close to a fly and the spark blows it apart. Ive never seen him use it tho. May be because of the massive emf the thing emits.Thats pretty much the best handmade thing i ever gifted.. But really it's always best to try and think of something unique for yourself. Would I of ever expected to receive a neck-warmer as a gift? Honestly I didn't even know neck-warmers existed until I received it! In the end it's not about the gift that counts, it's the thought behind it. Cheesy but true. Best thing I received was "handmade" sword, but then again, the friend who made that is an actual artistic blacksmith, so I guess it's not really something you can make on your lap while watching a TV. Glaci 119 December 15, 2013 Share December 15, 2013 Mine would have to be this propeller run model plane that a friend of my dad's made me, The amazing thing is that it's made out of stained glass, and it's a kaleidiscope as well. The 2 front propellers are both made of thick stained glass, and can spin around. When you look through the glass lens in the back, it makes really colorful shapes and stuff inside! It's so awesome. I make furniture and the like, while she spins raw wool into thread, and knits, crochets, and weaves it into a variety of stuff. I suppose the best item I made as a gift was a triangular chess table. The fellow I was giving to had created a triangular chess game that was supposed to be part of a fantasy role-playing game ruleset that he had created (but hasn't published yet. Next year, he says.) So I built him a triangular table about four feet on a side with inlaid veneer triangles of various colors, and tipi-like removable legs that pivoted on a rope hinge (for the historical/fantasy feel), plus three triangular stools with saddle-leather tops and similar (but shorter) tipi-like removable legs. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That chess table sounds really neat! Yeah, I draw and knit hats and things all the time and my family and friends can get that sort of thing from me at any time of the year. I know they do appreciate it all but I would like to break away and do something different at Christmas. I'm not very good at sewing but I took my time (almost 6 months!) and it came out pretty good. I also sometimes make custom clothes for her older plushies. I'm not sure why I always end up sewing stuff. She likes them though. I sometimes make little sculptures for people too, as birthday presents, Get Well gifts or just to cheer them up in general. Sometimes, if I'm up to it, I'll consider writing them a short story, poem or a song. That can take a lot of time and inspiration though. I don't often receive handmade gifts, but back in the day my late aunt used to send me lots of beautiful knitted scarfs and mittens. I really loved them. It's my favorite hoodie. However, I don't think that anyone is a big fan of PAC-MAN. It's a dead gem that everyone seems to have forgotten about. Like Rarity, I enjoy putting love into each piece, while also capturing some aspect of the recipient's interests or personality. ^^ The most valuable handmade thing I've received is a pink blanket my mom made for me when I was a kid.
