Well since it is canon she was a Pegasus I would say yes she can fly, the only reason Shining Armour had to throw her was because of how physically weak she was. Perhaps to a lesser extent the same could be said involving her imprisonment under the palace, as she did seem worse for wear.

Yes, yes she can. If you go into the other media than you'll see that she was a pegasus before she became an alicorn. Why would a Pegasus that's related to Celestia not be able to fly. I think she just hasn't had enough screen time.

She flies in The Crystal Empire. In the scene right before she lands on and shatters the Fake Crystal Heart, you can see her actually flap her wings. It's only for a few frames, but yes, she can fly:

Well I'm very glad for that. But there's still a large group of people that seem to the think only unicorns can become alicorns.

I would assume so, considering she was originally a pegasus. When we do see her glide, she's too weak to fly properly - meaning she should probably be able to fly in top physical shape.

She's not actually related to Celestia, in the book it says she was an orphaned pegasus raised by a village of earth ponys. After she became an alicorn she was "adopted" by celestia as her niece.

I dunno, the comics have been pretty much endorsed by Hasbro as much as the book at this point...

So while off set, they are fairly canon as things go.

I don't know, but I guess she can. Probably she's not the best flier in the world, but she doesn't need to be. I guess she flies just as regular pegasi/alicorns do.

 

Anyways, I wish we could see her flying more to prove it.

She flies. She has bigger wings so doesn't need to flap them so much to fly and she can glide much better which makes sense really as being bigger than a regular pegesus would make flight more tiring.

 

I wonder if Cadence realised this, being a pegesus originally.

Except for Twilight we rarely see the princesses flying. Prior to S4 1&2 we rarely saw Luna or Celestia doing more than gliding or landing and no I did not trawl the whole show to make sure.

I have a feeling flying will be a big part of Twilight's behavior from now on. She does it to travel but also when she's nervous or excited.

no she is thrown like a Lawn dart first. in order to fly you must be able to land and take off under your own power as she was thrown in this case she actually Glided because she had an assisted take off even with a single flap that cant be classed as actual flight however given that all sorts of air craft can be launched of aircraft carriers i don't see why she cant fly.

 

that being said i cant disagree with the thought that she can fly nor can i agree as it has been put in our minds that she was always an alicorn as that is the only way we have seen her. even back when she was foal sitting Twilight.

 

They need to explain this a little batter, however i don't even think the creators of the show could answer that question.

 

with that i believe she can fly, take Twilight for example she has now flown a few times in one or two of the episodes very well and a couple of times not so well. and she has been an alicorn for a short time however Cadence has been an alicorn since well the flash back of twilight with her as a filly. so she must be able to fly...Right?

Yes, she can fly. She has shown that she can fly, if she is able to control her flying then she is also able to control her gliding when she is in the air.

Well we saw her flying Discord around in Three's a Crowd and by her own admission she doesn't get to fly very often. I think it's been proven she can fly.
