Did Rarity steal from the hotel to make her dresses?

In Castle Mania she didn't try to steal anything, she just wanted to fix it and put it back up as it were.

That's what she wants you to think. Her grand plan is to steal...THE ENTIRE CASTLE! DUN DUN DUN!

Now going back to the ep with the dragon.. she did try to steal from his horde... failed.. but she did try.

or that was her official story to get flutter shy to help her out.

I mean honestly,

it would be alot more sane to simply steal it than fix it up and put it back (at that time cause we didn't get twilight might be moving in)

I doubt she asked for permission, given the state she was in when she started designing the dresses, but there's no way she would've actually stolen them. I'm sure she paid the hotel either before or after the fashion show.

So, did Rarity steal to make her dresses? (...) She just sang a whole freakin' song about generosity, then she steals from a hotel.

LOL what an observation :-D

But this is not her first time. Let me count...

1. Tried to steal some valuables from a dragon.

2. Stole Tom thinking that it is a huge diamond.

3. Robbed the whole dungeon/mine of Diamond Dogs on several wagons of gemstones :D

4. "Borrowed" some curtains from the Old Castle for "restoration".

...

Dude, do you have any idea how much hotel stuff costs?

I heard that in some countries hotels are aware that their guests steal towels, curtains, tablecloth, cutlery and soaps, and they are prepared for it: they simply include them secretly in their prices.

Truly she is a master, pulling off such a legendary heist of...like...a lampshade and some curtains. But it's the heist that counts!

She's a kleptomane-iac :D

Guess we have the birth of a new meme

Indeed! :D

I want an episode about her sneaking curtains and lampshades out of a hotel room, and adding them to an ever growing stash in a back alleyway, selling them on the black market to dressmakers all around the world once her fashion catches on, all to pay for her extravagant lifestyle in Manehattan. Heck, that's a decent fic idea

I want to read it! :D

Generous she may be, but somewhat greedy also...

Generosity and greed are just two opposite directions of flow of wealths: they can flow towards you (greed) or out from you (generosity). It's a matter of balancing them. One cannot be generous to the bones, because he/she would then quickly run out of wealths which would stop him/her from being generous any longer. First you need to have something to be able to give it to someone else. It's easier to help the poor when you become rich first. Greed is also limited, because the more you have the harder it is to keep control over it. And you may start being generous as a "side effect", by dropping some excess off your table. I can see greed and generosity as compensating each other: one can form a constant steady flow of wealth through oneself, one end in (greed), the other end out (generosity), and it would be OK if kept in perfect balance. And that's what Harmony is about, isn't it? ;)

she did but if she was giving massive gems to bellboys

Gemstones and gold don't seem to be regarded as precious in Equestria as in our Human World. They pay with the darn gold at the market! For what? For a pair of carrots?... O-O They decorate dresses with gemstones. Some of them (*cough* Spike *cough*) even EAT gemstones! No, the exchange rate of gold & gemstones seems to be pretty low in Equestria :P (I wonder how it translates to Rarity's generosity then?... :P )

The orange frog from boast buster? I knew he was up to no good

Animals don't forget. And in Nature nothing disappears without a trace. This frorange will come back sooner or later, with a huge army of other froranges, to revenge on Twilight :fiery:  As the owl did with Rainbow Dash ;)

Well, the worst sensible solution, I guess the worst possible solution would involve mass murder, a clown costume, 3 size 11 bowling balls, and oranges, so many oranges.

LAWL :D

@@SasQ,

Put in those terms it would make sense, and given her character in many situations this could be the angle thats setup.

But its not a very good show for kids if it is. Theft is still theft, and rarity has tried to steal under the guise of being generous in offering to "take care" of the items.

Don't take it the wrong way, not trying to bash her, just making and observation :P

hay apple jacks in the mob.  she has connections to the turnip family in main hattan.  (UFP)

Which is why she was in such a rush for the money. She's...awful strong. Plenty strong enough to break her kneecaps.

Maybe she wasn't generous at all! She just didn't tell them she was paying for what she stole! She was just bribing him! Now he'll never tell! My view of Rarity is slipping by the moment, but I think I'm just misconstruing this to fit my view.

Bribing somebody to not tell you're stealing by giving them something of equal or greater value than what you took is the same as paying for it.

Sure she didn't give them money for it, but she was still bartering.

But how do we know it was of the same value? As discussed earlier in the thread, gemstones most likely have no real value. I mean, they're littered all around the place, they were used in a school play, and in the diamond dogs episode, they're everywhere. They let Spike eat them, for Celestia's sake! I won't pun again here, but the value of gemstones could be anything. Perhaps master thief Rarity was just giving him a small cut of the profits of her master heist! She puts on a generous facade, so that nopony expects her to rob them blind!

A.) Much like Earth, it is fairly likely that in Equestria, certain gems are more valuable/rare than others.

B.) Look at this guy, I don't think he'd look like this if it wasn't a valuable gem.

You don't exactly get that look on your face when somebody gives you pocket change.

I'm really stretching for points here. Maybe...maybe he...no, no. Perhaps...perhaps you are right. Maybe...maybe Master Thief Rarity is too good to comprehend! Someone so feeble-minded as myself could never understand her master plan! For if it were so simple I could have come up with it in my ramblings, then there is no way she would have gotten away with those curtains and lampshades, and especially not the little bottles of stuff they keep in hotels! I mean, tiny soaps! Truly a prize worthy of her masterful skills! Maybe the gemstone was a mere pittance in comparison to the bounty of hotel stuff she got, even if it is a bit much for a tip. Maybe he was more excited that he got a tip at all, in this city where it is "Everypony for themselves" he wasn't expecting anything at all.

Except that if your paying someone off to not tell you stole from their employer isn't the same as paying for it.... Your not paying the person who owned the item you took, your not paying for the item. Your just stealing from one person and ensuring no witnesses talk.

Now your a thief, and that employee is an accessory to the crime.

I'm pretty sure she didn't steal them. The show could have clarified better, because it did kind of give off that impression, and that's not a good impression to give off in a children's show! Nevertheless, I still have a very hard time believing she actually stole them when she was giving jewels all around. If she actually used the hotel's materials, I'm sure she gave the hotel a nice bit of jewels to pay for them.

On an unrelated note, I just noticed that guy's cutie mark is bags. That's not a talent. So he can carry bags. I mean, I guess we need that in pony society, somepony has to do it after all, but still. It's more of a talent than wearing a tiara, but only just barely. It's like, "What are you best at?" "I make dresses!" "I can do magic!" "I can fly really fast!" "Great! And how about you?" "I carry bags." "Oh." I mean, maybe if he could like, carry 100 bags up to the penthouse, or some other amazing feat of strength, but it certainly didn't look like it.

^ There are some more actually . . .

- Stole the spotlight from Rainbow (ep.16)

- Stunk needles into a "baby dragon." (ep.20)

- Whined about being in economy class with her friends (ep.21)

- Con stallions into helping her (ep.25)

- Tried to get Sweetie Belle to learn to cook her favorite food as a means to apologies (S2 ep.5)

- Abandoned her friend during her birthday, drench her cat for a lie(S2 ep.9)

- Just plain wouldn't help Pinkie without giving a reason (S2 ep.13)

- Stole a bite from the cake her friend was trying to protect (S2 ep.24)

- Knocked others down to get the bouquet (S2 ep.26)

- Didn't try to get any information and focused on her daydream instead(S3 ep.1)

- Let her little sister drag her around on a comfy chair and do all the work (S3 ep.6)

- Admits she would love someone to serve her forever (S3 ep.9)

- Had to be prodded by Rainbow to give to Spike; gives him the smallest gem of the mane 6 (S3 ep.11)

^ I actually like Rarity's flaws, but sometimes things can get a little out of hand--especially when younger characters are involved.

My card: "A Talking Dragon - as acknowledged by Fluttershy"

I've got lots to say.

Not to mention they're EVERYWHERE. Like in the diamond dogs episode, most of the ground was gems. Gems are only valuable because of their Rarity, pun unintentional but appreciated.

It might depend on what types of gems they are too.  Some might be like $5 or some might be worth $100-$1000

Anyway, I'd assume she'd pay for it...  I guess.  But seeing how rude she was being to her friends, I can't imagine she did.

I almost wrote a fic about this. Here.

I actually like Rarity's flaws, but sometimes things can get a little out of hand--especially when younger characters are involved.

Me too, it makes her a more believable character. Generosity is something she has to work towards, not just something that is a given. She tries her best to be generous, and sure, she falls short of the mark sometimes, but she keeps trying! Unlike say, Fluttershy. Don't get me wrong, I love Fluttershy, but she can be a bit one dimensional. She's kind and good with animals and every episode with her is just her learning that she doesen't need to change anything and is perfect the way she is. That's great, but did she need to learn it this many times?
